Now premiering: the official music video for Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds' single!

New Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere:

Yes comrades.

I'm pleased to report that there's at least SOMETHING to report from our stop over in Copenhagen.

A lovely place. Wonderful people, so here goes.....

The day started with a trip to national Nordic television. They (whoever "they" are) had me on some breakfast TV show called "Weekend Weekend". So good they named it twice!!!! As you can imagine the show itself was a bit odd. It consisted of a few TV presenter types stood round an elbow high table talking about… well, I'm not quite sure what they was on about as my Danish is a bit rusty these days. It was a bit like that thing that Tim Lovejoy does back in England on a Sunday.

So there's me, some Danish singer-songwriter, a guy who is - and I quote - "Denmark's foremost authority on that holy instrument the Mellotron" (I made the holy bit up), and somewhat predictably...... a celebrity chef, who was gonna cook me an English breakfast.

Now… why is it called an "English" breakfast? Does anyone know?

One of the presenters did refer to the chef as a Michelin star cock at one point!!!! (She meant cook, one would have thought?)

So anyway, after the usual exchanges… you know the ones? They had me and the Mellotron expert stood round a Mellotron and discuss the virtues - of which there are many - of that wonderful piece of machinery. We discussed great Mellotron moments in rock ie. Nights In White Satin, Strawberry Fields, etc…

Now why any of this would be interesting to your average Nordic breakfast telly punter is beyond me but, y'know… whatever. The show was rounded off with a Beatles quiz!!

The gig was in some concert hall. Incredible place. It was like playing inside a hexagonal wooden box. Beautiful.

We played in the round and I must say, it was mega. Being totally surrounded by a load of Nordic beauties is good gear, let me tell you.

At one point a little lad ambled onstage!! He was only 5 years old!! Just think of how many t-shirts he could potentially buy in his lifetime!!! I think his dad sensed a photo opp' in between songs and shoved him up there. Charlie, his name was (I think). He was from Manchester, I believe!!

A top, top night. My favourite gig of the entire tour so far. Well done.

You find me back in Germany. Cologne, to be exact.

Looking forward to getting hold of the Sunday papers. City bagged another 5 goals yesterday. We are struttin' at the minute. None more so than Super Mario, who scored the goal of the season so far. Check it out, it's hilarious. That kid kills me.

Ps: I lost the fuckin' quiz on a tie break!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The interview is here, at 12:50:

http://sputnik.tv2.dk/programmer/nyheder-debat/weekend-weekend/4-december-2011-2-42058/

He just released a 19 minute video called ride the tiger that combines the videos for the 3 singles. Also, If I Had A Gun will be a U.K single.

New Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere:

So… Cologne? Yes, it was good. Cold, wet and windy, as usual.

Mega news came through during the soundcheck. City and United have been drawn together in the FA cup!!! And more importantly I think I'm gonna be around!!! Bring it the fuck on.

The gig was a big 'un, relatively speaking. 4000 people. Great vibe… (man). Only spoiled by a few drunken English ****s asserting their Englishness down the front. Why do English people insist on doing that?? It's embarrassing… No wonder everyone hates them.

Top night all the same.

Arrived in Paris yesterday morning at about 7am!! It was still dark getting off the bus. Grim as fuck… and I'm staying in the same hotel as I was the last time I was here for a gig. (Y'know… when the "incident" occurred?) It brought back some heavy memories (man).

The day off was good though. Had a bit of a wander round. Not heading anywhere in particular. Got lost. I liked it.

Gotta go… I'm running out of change.

Anybody know where I can find Alone on the Rope? When I could listen to it...best week of my life.

Not a clue. It was on amazon for all of 24 hours a couple of months back before the album release but disappeared very quickly. There has been absolutely no explanation provided by Noel's camp for the reason and in general there has been no mention of that song by Noel Gallagher. A ghost song indeed. I hope it gets released somehow because I think it's the best song Noel has ever recorded since The Masterplan. I do wonder why it wasn't on the album. I say it should have been in place of Stop The Clocks (not a fan of that song - sorry!) and been the closer. Gives me that old Coldplay vibe - dark but endearing and comforting. I'd also replace (Stranded On) The Wrong Beach with I'd Pick You Everytime. What a fantastic little song that is.

[/ame]

You can find Alone On The Rope on Amazon Germany. It's the bonus track for the album:

[ame=http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005TPRUAY/ref=dm_sp_alb]http://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B005TPRUAY/ref=dm_sp_alb[/ame]

I don't know if you can buy it if you are outside Germany. It's the only place where the song is available for buying.

I was on a trip so I'm going to post two Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere:

So... Paris?

Had a great night. Show was great. Crowd was great. Vibes was great.

Thanks to everyone that showed out for that little run around Europe. We had a great time. Some of the best gigs so far.

Legged it straight after the show back to Cologne to do some chat show. The Harald Schmidt Show? The German Letterman? No?

It was the typical timetable:

- Arrive.

- Sit around for a few hours.

- Do a rehearsal.

- Sit around for a few more hours.

- Do another rehearsal.

- Sit around for a few more hours.

- Do one more rehearsal.

- Sit around.

- Do the thing.

- Then leave.

You currently find me in the sunshine in Los Angeles. Over here to do a bit of Christmas promo, amongst other things.

Apparently there's gonna be a lunar eclipse at 6am tomorrow!! That jet-lag will finally come in useful for something at last.

Now then… Woke up yesterday to the news that there'd been - and I quote - a shooting rampage not five minutes from my hotel!!

A SHOOTING RAMPAGE!!!!!!!!!!

Apparently some kid (27) just randomly shot seven people in the street before he was himself shot in the head by the cops!!!!

What the fuck?? I love this place, but fuck me, that's insane.

Had a three hour drive to the gig that was in San Diego. I have to say it was a rather enjoyable journey. Pacific coast highway, beautiful sunshine, listening to tunes on headphones for three hours? I forgot when the last time was I had the pleasure of that experience.

The gig was in some big fuck off arena. It was the local radio station's Christmas festival thing. They have a lot of them over here. They invite the acts that get the most airplay over the year and they must've been hammering the record. Haven't been invited to one for over 10 years, maybe even longer!!!! You only do 30 mins so it's a piece of piss and all. All the hits, thank you and goodnight.

Got another one tonight for that radio station KROQ? Looking forward to it. It's only up the street here so the journey won't be anywhere near as enjoyable but it'll have the added thrill of maybe getting shot at!!!

Wish me luck.

And the video of the gig in Amsterdam it's available on Noel's website:

Thanks for posting the TFTMON. :) I really enjoy those.

Much agreed. Maybe it'll be on LP2? Hopefully. It's a great song, although it's a little mellow as a closer...although we'll see how that goes since I added Simple Game of Genius and Alone on the Rope right after STC but haven't listened through.

I listened to I'd Pick You Every Time...love it...but the video's been removed. :(

Also...the cover to the CD is really fecking pretty. I love it.

Does anyone feel like the guitar work on this album is just a little bit worse than anything that came of Oasis? I guess that's just new Noel being new Noel, but I feel like his new lead guitarist is just not as good as Gem... and none of the songs have anything nearly as epic as Supersonic, Live Forever, DLBIA, TIOBI...too many to name really. I love the new stuff for different reasons though. Everybody's on the Run is rather quite my anthem.

Oh - other complaint, does it seem like the live stuff's strings and organs are a bit cheesy sounding? Coldplay seems to get away with having an entire song be driven by strings...but the musical interlude in Everybody's on the Run, for example, just sounds kind of meatless with that weird synth-string solo live.

Does anyone know where I can find I'd Pick You Every Time by the way. I live in the U.S and still can't get it.

I know where you're coming from. There are no 'epic' guitar solos in this record (apart from the ending of Stop The Clocks - which as I said I'm not really a fan of that song) but I feel that's a decision deliberately taken by Noel. I think he tried to compose an album built around acoustic guitars. He only really intended for the meaty electric guitars for stadiums the size of Wembley and such or in other words for Oasis!

I think Everybody's On The Run is really magnificent but the only minor criticism of that song is the drums are a bit too 'plodding' if you know what I mean. Not really a fan of drums being mixed in with a string section. That's what makes say Viva La Vida such a classic because it takes away the obvious instruments and let's the strings do all the work along with a thumping timpani and a church bell. That said the vocal performance by Noel is one of, if not, his finest of his career.

Does anyone know where I can find I'd Pick You Every Time by the way. I live in the U.S and still can't get it.

The only place I found it for the US is in Noel's site. You can buy the single digital or CD, but you can't buy only the song:

http://www.noelgallagher.com/store/usd.php

And while I was searching I'd Pick You Every Time, I found that Amazon US has Alone On The Rope too as a bonus track:

It's great but I can't understand why all this different versions. It's so confusing.

That makes sense. Maybe LP2 to Noel will be MX for Jonny. :)

....ah I know what you mean. That was very jarring for me on first listen because I had listened to EOTR so many times from the Rio soundcheck to the point that I forgot it wouldn't be a stripped down acoustic thing.

Indeed, the album has such amazing vocals. Noel's my favourite singer ever.

Well, we have a song for the next album:

And if it is like he said in a interview, that the next album with AA has a lot of guitars, we shouldn't worry.

Is it true that Freaky Teeth was tongue-in-cheekily a James Bond theme? It's a cool song although it's not my favourite.

....aahh I can't wait for the AA album. :D

Will be interesting to listen to. His collab with AA on that 22 minute mix is one of the best things I've ever heard. Doubt it will sound much like that but it should be top drawer stuff.

Last Tales From The Middle Of Nowhere of 2011:

So comrades, for the last time in 2011… Yes!!

Right… It's been a few days, so here's what I can remember.

That KROQ thing was by far and away the most oddest "gig" I've ever done. Not for any particular reason other than it was just weird.

These things are put on by the radio stations. So the people (competition winners) it seems are only interested in what they've heard on the playlist for said radio station. You play anything that hasn't been a single (whatever that means these days) and it's met with total apathy. By the same rule, you play anything they've heard on the airwaves and the place goes apeshit. Like I say… weird.

I did get to meet that Florence lady from that Florence and the Machine. Nice girl. Couldn't be arsed sticking around to see the rest of the bands though (no offence).

So, the next day we was up at Warner Bros' studio to do that Conan Show (O'Brien, not the barbarian). Long day. Did manage to jib up to Hillside Studios - where I mixed the HFB album - to watch Man City-v-Chelsea. We got beat. We were a bit unlucky. Not nice losing though as it's something we are not used to… this season anyway.

The Conan thing was alright in the end.

Now… Yesterday everybody flew back home leaving me here to shoot another video for yet another single. It's turning into a 'Thriller', this album. Four blimmin' singles!!!! Unheard of, eh??

I'm doing it with the same people that have done the previous three so far. Gotta say, it might have been THE MOST fun I've ever had on a video shoot EVER. I won't give the game away now but it was a proper laugh.

Flying home myself today. Got a month or so off. Looking forward to seeing Nancy and the young guns.

Next time you hear from me I'll be in the great city of Tokyo, in the great nation of Japan. Mad food!! Crazy kids!! Awkward interviews!! Sleep deprivation!! No wonder they call it the land of the rising sun.

SAYO-fuckin'-NARA.

GD.

The next single is going to be Dream On. I would have liked Broken Arrow, but it's ok. Another single to order and wait for months. :laugh3:

Oh look, it's my first time logging into Coldplaying in 2 months. And all I'm doing is spamming you all with pics.

Anyway, saw Noel Gallagher twice this past weekend as part of a holiday series. Was glad to see the legend in person at long last, although his set tended to drag a bit in parts. He has some good songs on the album, but not enough of them to keep people from begging for Oasis covers. I was in seats the second night, hence the difference in quality you'll see below:
