9-11-01 discussion (Help please!)

Featured Replies

I know this isn't really Coldplay related but I really need help here. Today In class I was handed a survey . It includes 6 questions very short about 9-11 I have to ask someone 25 or older that would actually remember the event. I was to young then and only remember seeing it on TV and we live all the way across the U.S so It really hadn't affected me or I would ask my parents. This can be completely anonymous and you under no circumstances have to give your name , but you may if you would like. again thanks so so much to whoever answers I really appreciate it.

#1. Where were you and what were you doing when you first heard about the 9/11 attacks?

#2.What were some of your first thoughts and questions?

#3.How did you spend the next few hours and afternoon?

#4.In what ways did your emotions change as the day progressed?

#5.Did you know anyone who was personally associated with 9/11? If so, in what way?

#6. There were a number of governmental responses to the attacks and other terrorist activities ( The Patriot Act , wars in Afghanistan and Iraq , the new Department of Homeland Security , increased security at the boarders and ports of entry , and enhanced intelligence , community , etc.)Please comment on your opinion of the government's responses and what more if anything should be doing today to prevent further attacks.

1) I was in 3rd grade. My mom left work early to pick up me and my sister. She told us about it during the car ride home.

2) "Wtf?" I was in 3rd grade so all I could really think was "Why the hell would someone do that?". It was extremely confusing to me.

3) I was scared. My family was going through some things so we were in a new apartment at the time. There were a lot of Arabs around us, and I was afraid of them. (No offense, I was in 3rd grade and everyone was a little bit paranoid) I watched the news all night, and I found the images extremely shocking. I couldn't believe what was going on.

4) I was scared mostly, and sad of course. I honestly feared for my own life, but didn't show any true emotions because I had to stay strong for my sister.

5) Nope.

6) This whole thing would never have happened in the first place if it weren't for the American government, so, being an Anarchist, I can't really answer that question fairly. At the time, I thought all of those added defenses were well justified. Today, some things (including the search for Osama) I can understand, but no person in his/her right mind should support The Patriot Act.

#1. Where were you and what were you doing when you first heard about the 9/11 attacks?actually at the dentist office.

#2.What were some of your first thoughts and questions?-I was freaked out. Had no idea what was going on. Very confused.

#3.How did you spend the next few hours and afternoon?-School was cancelled for the afternoon. I worked for the newspaper part-time and was called in to help with coverage.

#4.In what ways did your emotions change as the day progressed?_ It was very surreal. Everyone hugged. People were just stunned shocked. I will never forget it. Strange.

#5.Did you know anyone who was personally associated with 9/11? If so, in what way?No

I felt as though the war in afghanistan was justified. I have always been against the patriot act and the war in iraq. I felt as though the bush administration used 9/11 to advance their own agenda.

I guess I'll do it anyways. :P

#1. I was 14 years old, home sick from school. On my couch, watching GMA when it changed to the special report.

#2. I was freaked out. Things like this get me super nervous, and I really didn't know why the hell a plane would be flying so low. Plus, the hole in the building looked way too big to be a small jet to me.

#3. Staring at the TV, calling my parents who headed home, and calling my sisters.

#4. First confusion, then shock, then I was scared, then I was really really upset.

#5. My neighbor was in the plane that went into the Pentagon. Yeah.

#6. Well, I've hated Bush since the second he was sworn in, so I obviously hated the way he reacted. Going to war in a country that didn't really do it was pretty dumb too.

I edited my post and elaborated since I was in a rush to get downstairs and eat when I originally posted it.

I'm not 25, but since I live in DC maybe my answers will be worth something? :P And I definitely remember it...

1) I was in school, and parents kept arriving to take their kids home but no one knew why (the school didn't tell us). I didn't find out until my mom picked me up.

2) I wasn't sure if my dad had been working at the Pentagon that day, so I was completely terrified. I was also upset that something like the twin towers could be gone, they were so iconic. And I couldn't believe that something like this could happen so close to me, in my city :(

3) I just watched TV in shock...

4) I was so terrified for my dad, and then relieved to find out that he hadn't been at the Pentagon. But other than that, I was just in complete shock.

5) I had a pregnant aunt who worked near the twin towers and had to be evacuated, and my dad knew a couple of colleagues in the Pentagon. Since I live in DC a lot of kids at school had parents who worked in the Pentagon, but only one of them had a parent who was killed :\

6) I hate Bush :P And I disagree with the wars, and basically everything foreign policy-related that he did... What an awful 8 years we had, yeah?

Thanks for helping me procrastinate doing my homework!

Balls I didn't read the first post and now I realize I wasted my time posting that.

Balls I didn't read the first post and now I realize I wasted my time posting that.

FAIL.

Well...I am not 25 yet but I will answer it anyway:

1. I was in school. Either learning or trying to balance a pencil on my nose.

2. Why the fuck would someone do that?

3. Same as #1. Either that, or I was at home watching TV or playing piano.

4. My emotions didn't change. I was not very concerned with what had happened.(I live by an army base. So I know that I am pretty much safe.)

5. Heh. No.

6. I hate politics. Therefor I am not answering this question.

Im over 25 if you still need answers to the questions.

1. Where were you and what were you doing when you first heard about the 9/11 attacks?I was at work about 2 miles from the WTC.

#2.What were some of your first thoughts and questions? At first didnt realize how bad it was but when the news kept saying another plane crashed ,and then another plane went down,I was scared shitless.I only wondered how I would get home since I dont live in Manhattan and need to take a bridge to get home and they said all bridges were closed

3.How did you spend the next few hours and afternoon?I was at work at my husband's store and all the employees were standing outside. The Wtc was downtown and our store is midtown so thousands of people who had just left the WTC area were walking past us and asking to use our phones and bathroom. Most of the people were covered in white dust and were crying. Some of the people told us they had gotten out just in time.In the evening I felt totally helpless because we couldnt go home and had to stay in Manhattan. All night long we heard police cars and FBI cars and their sirens going down the street.

What ways did your emotions change as the day progressed?I went from being very scared at what what had happened and then feeling so sad at watching people on the news looking for their loved ones.It was so heartbreaking to see all the people putting family members pictures on a wall near ground zero

#5.Did you know anyone who was personally associated with 9/11? If so, in what way?Numerous people in my immediate neighborhood were killed,a neighbor ,a firefighter.People that my daughter went to school with were killed.two of my husbands customers were killed. And I know so many other people who lost someone.

Wow, I feel old. I'm 24

#1. I was in bed at 6:30am when my mom turned on my radio like she would do every morning when I was in high school in order to get me out of bed. I remember getting up and going upstairs and seeing one of the towers starting to shake and I told my mom "there is no way that tower is coming down" and then before my eyes it started collapsing. Then I remember seeing the second one go. I was 16 and in the 11th grade.

#2. I just remember thinking about all the people inside who didn't get out. At first when the first plane hit the tower they thought it was an accident and then I remember seeing the second one fly into the building and then I knew it was an attack, but I didn't know by who.

#3. I had to go to school, but they wouldn't let us watch it at school which made me angry. I really just remained stunned and then when I got home I think the plane had crashed into the field in Pennsylvania.

#4. That was the very day I discovered that some people truly just want to watch the world burn.

#5. I didn't know anyone associated with 9/11.

#6. I'm too tired to go there ;)

Thank God I'm in this small town in the South. I wonder how many more tricks these terrorists have up their sleeves?

#3.How did you spend the next few hours and afternoon?

Watching the news.

#4.In what ways did your emotions change as the day progressed?

#5.Did you know anyone who was personally associated with 9/11? If so, in what way?

Nope.

The government caused 9/11 by disallowing the public to carry firearms on aircraft.

All other laws, pronouncements, whims, and edicts are superfluous.

#1. Where were you and what were you doing when you first heard about the 9/11 attacks?

I was in my neighbouring supermarket when a customer said to me and the other customers: "Have you heard it - there has been an airplane flying into one of the World Trade Center towers".

#2.What were some of your first thoughts and questions?

I thought: "Oh, my Good - how terrible" and "Why"?

#3.How did you spend the next few hours and afternoon?

I immediately paid for my goods and then hurried home and telephoned my parents. My father answered the phone and said: "It is terrible - both towers have been hit by planes and are now burning - you should watch it on TV". I then opened my TV (at 15:15 Danish time) and saw the news on CNN. I watched CNN News for the rest of the day and the following days as well.

#4.In what ways did your emotions change as the day progressed?

At first shock and disbelief, later also sadness due to the loss of all these lives.

#5.Did you know anyone who was personally associated with 9/11? If so, in what way?

No.

I fully understood the increased security at the borders and ports of entry as well as the enhanced intelligence. But I do not like the start of the war in Iraq due to "the weapons of mass destruction", because the UN weapon inspector(s) had said that there was no evidence of any weapons of mass destruction left (there had been weapons of mass destruction, but these had all been destroyed some years before). The war in Afghanistan was justified: Overthrow of the Taliban regime that would do anything to protect / hide Bin Laden.

Support our troops etc...
