Black Rose
So did anybody manage to get tickets this morning in the manic rush? Who do you think they have lined up for the headliners? Who else do you think will be playing?
mc_squared
Glastonbury sold out in 15 hours as creaking ticket system leaves thousands frustrated By Daily Mail Reporter Last updated at 2:22 AM on 05th October 2009 Comments (0) Add to My Stories Legend: Bruce Springsteen was the headline act at this year's festival Thousands of music fans were left frustrated yesterday after tickets for Glastonbury's 2010 incredibly sold out in just 15 hours. Music fans spent hours queuing on phone lines and websites in a desperate bid to get their hands on tickets for next year's music festival. But a creaking phone system meant that many callers could not get through and missed out on tickets for the festival - which will celebrate its 40th anniversary next year. Ticket sale phone lines and websites were crammed with people trying to buy tickets, which went on sale for the first time from 9am yesterday. By 10.30am a message was placed on the official Glastonbury website to say that half of the tickets allocated for the festival had already been sold. The message sent web forums buzzing with activity, sparking a further frenzy of thousands more people trying to buy tickets. Glastonbury will be celebrating its 40th anniversary next year, and it is thought that this landmark, plus the success of this year's event, which was held in glorious sunshine, prompted a huge clamour for people desperate to buy tickets. But many thousands of frustrated bloggers reported on websites that their pursuit of tickets had been fruitless. Hundreds said they waited hours on phonelines only to be left disappointed. The demand for tickets was so strong that Glastonbury's official website - http://www.glastonburyfestivals.co.uk - was overloaded and many of those who did visit the page often encountered with 'error' messages. Also, ticket hunters reported a huge amount of traffic on seetickets.com - the official partner site of Glastonbury and the only place where tickets could be purchased. People who registered with organisers by Friday could buy tickets from 9am. Only those who registered were eligible to buy them. More... It was hailed as one of the best by festival-goers and organisers alike. Co-organiser Michael Eavis said of the 2010 event: 'The expectations are really high. 'We're trying to get the best headliners in the world.' The festival, which is held at Worth Farm in Somerset, takes place between June 23 and June 27, 2010. Full weekend tickets cost £185 - up £10 from last year - plus a £5 booking fee. The registration system, which does not guarantee a ticket, was introduced in 2007 to combat touting. Last year fans were able to extend their registration for three years. Anyone unsure whether their previous registration is still valid can check online. deaths_friend
is this the first time it has sold out before any bands have been announced? and have they sold all 140 000 tickets? or is this just a first release?
Black Rose
is this the first time it has sold out before any bands have been announced? and have they sold all 140 000 tickets? or is this just a first release? One band has been announced though ;) But IIRC it used to sell out before any bands got named a few years ago. As for number of tickets, it sounds like they have all gone, but as per last year, keep an eye out around the first Sunday in April for the Cancelled tickets and the tickets of people doing the £50 reserving but not paying it off in full. Plus around May time, after the deadline for returns, they normally sell off any remaining then.

Black Rose
Wow that's crazy !! All the tickets sold and we are in October :stunned: Can't wait to see which bands are playing ! What other festival can sell 100,000+ tickets without any bands confirmed? (yes I know, there is a small band who won the unsigned competition, but for the sake of it all, just ignore that fact)
deaths_friend
We're very pleased to confirm that U2 will headline the Pyramid Stage on Friday night at Glastonbury 2010. Said Michael Eavis: "The 26-year-old rumour has finally come true. At last, the biggest band in the world are going to play the best festival in the world! Nothing could be better for our 40th anniversary party. And there are even more surprises in the pipeline..."
MrMagpie
from atu2.com Posted: November 23, 2009 By: m2 The weekend rumors are confirmed: U2 will headline next year's Glastonbury Festival with a performance on Friday, June 25th. Tickets went on sale last month and sold out quickly. U2.com says, "It will be the only date the band play in the UK and Ireland next year," which means a lot of paid U2.com members will probably be left holding unused ticket codes. The Glastonbury performance will happen while U2 is on its North American U2 360 tour next year; they play Edmonton on June 23 and Minneapolis on June 27. deaths_friend
i'm tipping Pearl Jam to headline one of the other nights. or does Eavis consider them as being "too heavy". he thought RHCP were too heavy to headline in 2007.

I think he made the right choice with The Who in 2007, don't think THe Killers and Artic Monkeys or Bjork though were capable of holding their own as a headline act. Maybe the Killers. Black Rose
Ticket resale this Sunday :) One stage out of many has been announced: West Holts stage and line-up announced! 7 April 2010 We're very pleased to announce a major new stage at this year's Festival. The West Holts stage will replace the Jazz World stage (and occupy the same location). The stage will be headlined by Mos Def, George Clinton with Parliament / Funkadelic (pictured) and Rodrigo y Gabriela. "We're going back to the real roots of Worthy Farm and its history with the name change for the stage," says Glastonbury founder Michael Eavis. "West Holts was a 'halt' originally; one of the two places where we had to open the level crossing gates across the old railway line to get the cattle through for milking. It was a fair walk up to the farm, just as it is now, and those cows took some driving!" West Holts will feature the best groove-based music from around the world, as living legends share the bill with cutting-edge newcomers. Asked to sum up the sound of Glastonbury's newest stage the answer was: "Global future roots music." Here is the full line: FRIDAY JUNE 25TH - Mos Def (with full live band) - Femi Kuti - TBC - Breakestra with Chali 2na - Mariachi El Bronx - Tune-Yards - Matthew Herbert Big Band SATURDAY JUNE 26TH - George Clinton with Parliament / Funkadelic - Jerry Dammers Spacial AKA Orchestra - Os Mutantes - Devendra Banhart - Bassekou Kouyate & Ngoni Ba - Phenomenal Handclap Band - Brother Ali - Troy Ellis & the Longshots SUNDAY JUNE 27TH - Rodrigo y Gabriela - Toots & the Maytals - Quantic & His Combo Barbaro - Staff Benda Bilili - Dr John - Tunng - The Bees - Dizraeli (chosen from the Emerging Talent Competition finalists)
