Best Closing Tracks

Featured Replies

listening Foreground by Grizzly Bear made me realise that sooo many of the great albums end with incredible songs. here are my album of year selections recently

2009 - Veckatimest by Grizzly Bear - ends with Foreground

2008- S/T Fleet Foxes - ends with Oliver James

2007 - In Rainbows by Radiohead - ends with videotape

2006- Whatever People Say... by Arctic Monkeys - ends with A Certain Romance

2005- S/T Wolfmother - ends with Vagabond

others include Take It or Leave It by The Strokes and Amsterdam by Coldplay. all of the songs i've mentioned are some of my faves of all times. brings truth to the saying, Saving the best for last.

Good question. Amsterdam is an amazing final track.

My favourite 'album closer' is actually a track that is 2nd last on the Editor's record, 'An End Has A Start'... 'Spiders'.... I just get the feeling that something is coming to an end when I hear that. It's a great playlist closer.

damn dp, so I am going to say A Certain Romance rocks.

Death And All Of His Friends/The Escapist...awesome

The Tourist (OK Computer-Radiohead)

Motion Picture Soundtrack (Kid A-Radiohead)

Shadow Of Your Man (I'll Be Lightning-Liam Finn)

Poor Cow (Writers Block-Peter Bjorn And John)

and yeah Videotape (In Rainbows-Radiohead)

I'll think of more later, but my two favorites closer songs from my two favorite bands are Pearl Jam's "Release" and U2's "40".

uum, a little song.

you might have heard of it.

its called AMSTERDAM.

:bigcry: its just so.. beautiful!

anyway, here's a few more:

"her majesty," from abbey road.

"bold as love," from axis: bold as love.

"only in dreams," from the blue album.

"my first wedding," from tales of love, loss and desparation.

"everythings not lost," from parachutes.

there's a lot more.. i just cant think of them at the moment:nice:

and my fave album of 2004 is S/T Franz Ferdinand which ends with 40' SOOOO AWESOME!

My 1st Song ending the Black Album was the a really good closing.

wolf parade and sunset rubdown albums definitely have the best closing tracks (over ten minutes long).

Sunset Rubdown - Dragon's Lair

Wolf Parade - Kissing the Beehive

Amsterdam for me as well. Doesn't get much better for a closer than that.

But I like The Wanderer by U2 featuring Jonny Cash on Zooropa as well.

My 1st Song ending the Black Album was the a really good closing.

wooot. I love that album :escaping:

Amsterdam, indeed.

But also:

A Day in the Life closing Sgt. Pepper's (The Beatles). That last Pianochord - goosebumps.

Plus Married with Children and Champagne Supernova by Oasis, closing Definitely Maybe and (What's the Story?) Morning Glory, respectively, aswell as The Shins' The Past and Pending, which is on Oh, Inverted World. All are extraordinary brilliant.

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e6QnK0yql8s]Resurrection[/ame] at the end of The Stone Roses s/t first album is the. best. album closer ever...fact! ;)

Other notable mentions include..

* Comforting Sounds at the end of Frengers (Mew) cos it's just so epic

* Happiness at end of West Ryder (kasabian) which is just achingly beautiful

* Everything's Not Lost , of course - Amsterdam's good, but ENL is better :)

* A Day in The Life from Sgt Pepper's

* Bonus at the end of Travis's The Man Who is pretty special too :D

Good Night-Beatles

Amsterdam-Coldplay

...my mind is blanking, but i'm sure there's more

Resurrection[/url] at the end of The Stone Roses s/t first album is the. best. album closer ever...fact! ;)

How could I've forgotten this song...the outro is epic!

I think "Megalomania" from Muse's "Origin of Symmetry" is a great closing track, especially with the strong organ at the end.

wow cant believe i forgot A Day In The Life. trumps everything else IMO.

Oh and I forgot about Champagne Supernova. Is there a more famous closer than that?

Veckatimest is a great album overall, every track is in it's right place IMO...

interesting. that was my only criticism of the album, that the tracks were a little out of place. otherwise its one of the best albums i've ever heard (Jonny Greenwood says that too, so it must be right) when i get the chance i'll post on the GB appreciation thread what i think the track listing should of been

Yes, A Day In The Life is epic. That term is overused these days but not on this occasion.

Bedshaped - Keane

Ruled By Secrecy - Muse - I think this is an amazing song yet it seems pretty underrated

The Lightning Strike - Snow Patrol

Those are the only ones i can think of atm that haven't already been mentioned...
