September 27, 200619 yr oh and I gotta say. It's good to find another person who has actually heard the cd A Northern Soul besides me. Sometimes I think I'm the only person in Toronto who has.... It's the cd where I get my signature from you might've noticed. haha
September 27, 200619 yr Oh I totally agree. Even if it's through a stpid thread, it's nice finding someone to discuss the stuff one digs. I found it impossible to get their albums over here, so basically I just bought them all when I was in the US. Luckily the EP was recorded over there so it was quite easy to find it. And I admire Brian Cannon so much. Most of their stuff (as well as early Oasis art) was made by him and he's so talented.
September 27, 200619 yr Man, I wonder what Richard Ashcroft is like in person. I wonder if he is like arrogant like Noel and Liam his buddies. And I gotta say, I really dig his style. Even though he is kinda freaky looking. Don't even get me started on the man himself. He's a really simple and modest person, you wouldn't even believe it. And you're hearing that from someone who actually met him to say that. I was expecting a bit of arrogance myself as well, and would have totally accepted it considering how much he means to me, but he's so down to earth. He's someone who really appreciate his fans and is truly thankful.
September 27, 200619 yr man, that's awesome. I'd love to meet the guy. That's what I find about celebs, it's like the media builds them up to god-like proportions, and then when you run into them, they're just ordinary people. It's good to know that. Like when I met Chris Cornell, he was just a quiet chilling guy, and same with Coldplay.
September 27, 200619 yr I really dig the Verve EP cover, it's true, the cds have really good artwork, really captures the atmosphere of the music well.

Like when I met Chris Cornell, he was just a quiet chilling guy, and same with Coldplay. So true. Though I'm sure it happens to be true sometimes. But it's such a rewarding experience meeting some of your heroes. Makes it all have even more sense. Anyway, if you're curious about the details: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/showthread.php?t=25147&page=2&highlight=richard+ashcroft And yeah, that's what I'm talking about when I bring Brian Cannon up. He really knows how to portay the whole concept behind the music in one image. The worst bit is that he didn't have the successfull career he deserves. Such a waste of talent. You probably seen the This Is Music cover (single version), the one of Richard standing on top of this giant rock, well he's responsable for that. And for that framed girl version of the Wonderwall single as well.
September 27, 200619 yr oh man, those pics are great! But yea the This Is Music picture of Richard, and he's wearing the lyrics on a sign around his shoulders right? Yea, that's a great photo, I think it would make a good poster too. And yea, the Wonderwall single cover, I know what ur talkin about. Really good stuff. Does he do all the artwork for the band? Like I liked how in the booklet for A Norther Soul, on the pages they have the lyrics to the songs, and then like corresponding pictures depicting the lyrics. Like the back of the cd it Nick McCabe (I think) buying "feelings" from a vending machine, and that's of course from the song Life's An Ocean. It seems like Brian really likes to tie in the visual artwork of the albums with the music on the album, not like most albums where it seems to be just pictures of the band members posing.
September 27, 200619 yr They are in my top 3 bands of all time with The Beatles and Oasis. A Storm In Heaven is my fave album, it's just so intricate and dreamy.
September 27, 200619 yr Yeah, this one: And he is the one on charge of the art direction indeed. He's credited on every single album under "sleeve concept, design & art direction". Just checked the singles I have and he's credited there as well. I agree 100% and your comments there. He seems to have the talent of getting the whole atmosphere and climax created by a group of songs, find something that would represent all that and put into images. I wish I had at least a 0.1% of his creativity. I really like the artwork on early albums as No Come Down and ASIH (bsides are just outstanding), but just revisited the UH booklet and those sky photos are amazing. And you get a bit of everything: some band photos, live shots and more "abstract" and conceptual images and those sky/biuldings one. Genius.
September 28, 200619 yr Man I try to find b-sides of the Verve but they're impossible to download. I hear the ones from A Northern Soul are pretty good.
September 28, 200619 yr Oh, I only have 'Lucky Man', 'BSS', 'TDDW' and my very precious 'All In the Mind' original singles, but I'm almost sure I have every bside that was release. Fancy an upload?
September 28, 200619 yr Okey, that'll be tomorrow then. Sorry for asking for a bit of patience, but it's an early start for me tomorrow and it's already late! But definitely will get them sorted tomorrow after uni :wink2:
September 28, 200619 yr oh god, I actually gotta get to bed myself, I have to wake up bright and early for uni tomorrow myself. take it ease.
September 28, 200619 yr Well, first upload, the group of songs commonly known as 'Sympathy for the demos': http://rapidshare.de/files/34795006/Sympathy_For_The_Demos.zip They're demos from their last time together, some of which made it into UH and some which later fitted into Richard's first solo album. Check it out.
September 28, 200619 yr Now, made two zips with some bsides and rare/unreleased stuff: PART2: http://rapidshare.de/files/34810505/rare_verve_tracks_part2.rar

October 1, 200619 yr bump bump bump! Thanks for those rarities and b-sdes. It's interesting how The Verve released a b-sides compilation after only one album. Too bad they didn't think of waiting til further down their career.
October 1, 200619 yr Hey, never noticed this thread! I have uploaded all the bsides some weeks ago in the "other bands mp3 thread" if someone is still looking for some bsides, the links might still be active. The Verve is one of my alltime favorite bands! I love them! It's hard for me to realise that they probably will never reunite......
October 2, 200619 yr yea. I guess you can really apply that saying here that "You don't totally appreciate it until it's gone." In the case of The Verve, this is so sadly true.
October 5, 200619 yr Hey, never noticed this thread! I have uploaded all the bsides some weeks ago in the "other bands mp3 thread" if someone is still looking for some bsides, the links might still be active.
