oh and since I got a little little bit more into the Beatles I must admit I can see where that comparison is coming from

I don't know Cream other than a couple of songs so I'm unaware of the comparison. They'll have taken the best bits of Cream and lost the pomposity I'm guessing.

listening to the Middle East album once more. one thing i must credit the band for and that is the fact that they've stayed true to their aussie roots. they could've easily made an album with an international appeal or geared more towards the north american market but instead they put on songs like land of the bloody unknown and sydney to newcastle that their aussie fans really connect with.

I would have to agree with this here the most. It sets them apart from a lot of other Australian bands is that there sound is so obviously their own. As for the other criticism, maybe we will come to appreciate a longer album later on in the year. If you ask me, they probably would've been better off releasing two more EPs, rather than an album, but I think its a good stepping stone for them to figure out what kind of length and style is right for them; it's a big step to take from releasing a very much critically acclaimed Ep and then expected to follow it up with their debut album. My guess, they will do a lot better on their next release. Also, has everyone got the unofficial, eight-track version of their original album that never saw a proper release, but then got shortened and released as their EP?

EDIT: Also, what else is there in the way of Australian music expected to come out this year?

Yeah I have the self released 8 song record they had out in 2008. The first 5 songs were chosen for a reason, they were far better than the rest and the label wasn't ready to support a full album.

Next big release for me is The Panics.

Foals LATW tonight!!! in the flesh they were probably one of the best acts i have ever had the pleasure of seeing so i can't wait to hear what triple j do with them. i shall be recording

Sia recording turned out a little bass heavy. will try to rectify that problem tonight.

^ YAY!! Just started listening. I have to agree, they were absolutely stunning, both times I saw them. Spanish Sahara live literally takes my breath away. Getting shivers down my spine listening to it now.

Oh, and I actually don't have a copy of the 8-track recording of the Middle East, I need to get that

  • Author

totally shit recording :( weather isnt great here tonight so thats probably the reason.

will upload regardless so keep an eye on the bootleg thread.

Oh well, thanks anyway for recording :D

I was just going to say, you can try again Sunday if you're really unhappy with it. Either way, any live recording is great as there aren't enough bootlegs around of this band!

Only a couple of days til Splendour lineup is released!!!! Unfortunately I'm going to be out camping in the middle of nowhere so I'm not going to be able to see the lineup until Thursday afternoon :bomb:

Here is who WONT be playing Splendour.

Why is splendour so good, every year?

i raised this point on fasterlouder as well albeit arguing a different point. you look at those 3 headliners. they would be good enough to top any bill in the world. but in the northern hemisphere you'll find acts like that playing festivals that have over 60 000 people there every day. but at splendour you get those massive headliners (and an overall lineup that isnt far off) with only 30 000 people there. this means that people are more willing to spend the big bucks which then enable the organisers to throw the big money at the big names. hence you have yourself one very very good festival.

here is who i wanna see at splendour. i've put a (0) next to the ones i really really wanna see.

I agree that the lineup is not quite as good as last years but I'm SO THERE.

Holy crap tickets are expensive this year though - $70 on last year's camping ticket!

  • Author

i think the guys on fasterlouder are having a pretty fair discussion on the ticket prices. if you compare splendour to other massive festivals it's actually not that expensive and you can't exactly be happy about coldplay and kanye and then complain about the price because they would be a big part of the reason why it's so expensive. i'm not happy about it either but going to splendour this year makes sense to me because a bulk of the lineup is bands i like but won't be willing to pay 60 bucks to see at a sideshow.

  • Author
Why can't kanye just do a proper tour

fuck all these festivals

cos he is kanye fucking west and he dont need no pussy cos he's on his own dick :laugh3:
