Just 57 per cent think world temperatures are rising - a drop of 20 points compared to three years ago - while only one in three believes humans are causing climate change. The findings, based on a survey of 1,500 adults, come as the US Senate is preparing to debate legislation that will curb greenhouse gas emissions. According to the new survey, carried out by the Pew Research Centre, 36 per cent believe human activities - such as pollution from power plants, factories and automobiles - are behind a global temperature increase. That's down from 47 percent from 2006 . 'The priority that people give to pollution and environmental concerns and a whole host of other issues is down because of the economy and because of the focus on other things,' said Andrew Kohut, director of the centre. 'When the focus is on other things, people forget and see these issues as less grave.' Despite misgivings, half the poll respondents said they supported limits on greenhouse gases, even if they could lead to higher energy prices. And a majority - 56 per cent - said the US should join other countries in setting standards to address global climate change in Copenhagen in December. The growing scepticism comes despite mounting scientific evidence that greenhouse gases from farming, industry, power plants and transport are increasing the amount of heat trapped in the Earth's atmosphere - and have contributed to rise in global temperatures since the start of the industrial revolution. If you do a search on Google for "global warming faster than expected" you come up with 142,000 news stories about how scientists have just discovered their data sets were wrong! It's all happening so quickly! You have stories about "faster than expected" global warming going back all the way to 1998. Then it gets faster, then faster, then faster. Come on. You can only scare people so much before it becomes "the boy who cried wolf".

Since seawater has a pH around 8.1, it will take an awful lot of CO2 it to even make the water neutral (pH=7), let alone acidic (pH less than 7)." What a pile of bullshit, this person clearly doesn't even know what it means to make something more acidic, or how it would affect the fish in the ocean. I haven't even finished a course in high school chemistry and I know that. Pathetic.

October 24, 200916 yr Of all the ways humans affect the environment, global warming is honestly the least of my worries. My greatest environmental concern right now is over-fishing. Because this is really going to affect human diets over the next 100 years.

I just find it odd that people say the earth is cooling when data says otherwise. Also, the NCDC, of course, gets their funding from the federal government but you can't make up temperatures.
