Here, have some Muse flamebait

If I see any more comments about Muse sounding like Radiohead, I will punch someone in the face. They don't, never have, and never will sound anything alike! Why the hell do people say that? My gosh.

Anyway. About this thread. It distresses me. However, despite its negativity, it's allowed to be here like the other threads, so I can't say I have too much of a problem with it.

Actually they are 10 times more overrated than Radiohead, because Radiohead have some talent.

I'd say Radiohead do have talent, true. As for the Muse album, it's not amazing, it has decent songs, but I think they have failed in an attempt to produce something 'original' but daring. Songs either sound too 'pop' or just ridiculous (exogenesis and Guiding Light).. I like the album, but I just think it could have done much better. For that it is overrated. Matt Bellamy's talent seemed to emanate a lot more prior to this LP.

You almost sound ashamed of the possibility of Muse sounding like early Radiohead. Why is that? There's nothing wrong with sounding like Radiohead or being influenced by them. To deny the obvious influences just makes you come across as some blind fanboy. Now if someone were to say ''Muse are ripping off Radiohead'' , then I would understand you being annoyed by that, as that statement is pretty off base.

Anyways, here's a few examples where you can see some of the influences(keep in mind, I'm not saying these are identical...but if you listen carefully you'll see some similarities)

YouTube- Muse - Citizen Erased

(similar song structure)

YouTube- [Muse] Hyper Chondriac Music

YouTube- Muse - Twin

YouTube- Radiohead-My Iron Lung

(Twin's bassline sounds strangely similar to My Iron Lung's)

Glorious has some lyrics that are found on My Iron Lung

Glorious

''Faith, it drives me away

But it turns me on

Like a strangers love'

My Iron Lung

''Faith, you're driving me away

You do it everyday

You don't mean it

But it hurts like hell

l''

YouTube- Muse - Fury

Some other Muse songs that sound like Radiohead:

Pink Ego Box

Con-Science

Host

Falling Down

Map Of Your Head=radiohead ish lyrics

Sober

Fillip

Unintended<--considered by many to be the most blatant

Sunburn

Here are some Radiohead songs that usually get mislabeled on youtube, often confused as Muse songs:

YouTube- Radiohead - The Trickster, Lewis (Mistreated)...

YouTube- Radiohead - Pearly

YouTube- Radiohead Creep Acoustic Flash

examples of a couple mislabeled songs:

This twilight fan(bless her heart) believes The Trickster was written by Muse:

and the famous Creep acoustic, which people swear was done by Muse

YouTube- Radiohead/muse-creep w/lyrics

just entitle that post "Muse and Radiohead: Are they the same band?" and my friend you have yourself a great thesis and in turn a Phd. lol

Hey, seriously there's a problem, why do people always end up comparing bands with Radiohead ? Are they like the supreme band ?

Radiohead's Exit Music sounds a lot like Muse when it kicks in. A lot.

This is rather brilliant, even though many won't agree.

How would you know what I meant by that? Shame has nothing to do with it. I like Radiohead as much as the next person. I'm just tired of hearing the comparison. It really doesn't change my opinion at all. I still like Muse better than Radiohead, so there you go.

Oh, and that would be fanGIRL, as I'm female. :P

Hey, seriously there's a problem, why do people always end up comparing bands with Radiohead ? Are they like the supreme band ?

Yes.

God, don't feed their radiohead-fan egos, please.

Radiohead's Exit Music sounds a lot like Muse when it kicks in. A lot.

I admit that the guitar and singing are very similar to Muse.

But the rest of the song sounds similar to Coldplay.

Please don't hurt me for saying that! :P

It's quite understandable that Muse fans would be tired of the Radiohead and Muse comparison just like Coldplay fans are sick of the comparison.

Thank you.

I completely agree. When they first started they were fresh and original and exciting, but all their albums are too safe. They haven't really broken out and tried anything bold and new, the new album sounds like it could have been written 3 years ago by them. They bore me now.

Take a chance, Muse.

I was actually thinking about this the other day. A factor in me liking music is that it's sort of relevant for it's time - the song shouldn't seem as if it could be written however many years ago at least. Excellency is when the song ages well. Many of the songs on Resistance could have been written at least 2 years ago, thus.

i would of expected a thread like this from someone like howyousawtheworld or mc_squared. but not you, Cobalt (can i use your real name??)

You could, but nobody on here really refers to me by my real name anymore since there's about another billion other Emmas on here now. Username is fine.

you dont like muse? I DONT CARE! just dont need to tell the whole world about it.

For some people it's just easier to be negative and complain all the time :nice:

I'm not sure if you missed part of the joke about this whole thread - when I was about to post, I realised this would just become another thread with a rather provoking subject and opening message, the original poster potentially attempting to try and stir up some responses like these to feel "cool" and "awesome", thus why I added

Flame me so I feel self-important and badass!!!

in order to also mock people who make those sorts of threads. But hey, it's also a change of pace from "Muse is so awesome *fap fap fap*" too

Oh... yeah :uhoh:

So if it's to mock people who make this kind of threads, I'm okay with that ^^

Yes.

Seriously, I like the 3 Radiohead songs I know, but you're exactly the kind of arrogant person who keeps me from discovering them...

God, don't feed their radiohead-fan egos, please.

Eh, right !

"ANNNND NOOOWWWW

WEEE ARRREEE ONNNEEEEE

IN EVERLAAAAASSSTINNGGG PEEEEEAAACCEEEE

...today

we escape

we escape"

I was mainly drawing my comparison off the vocals. :P Sounds like (and reads like, if you're just looking at the plain lyrics) distilled essence of Matt Bellamy.

Um... the rest of the song is not like Coldplay. It's too dark, imo.

To me the beginning of the song sounds like something that could have come from Parachutes or A Rush Of Blood To The Head. Personally, I think that some Coldplay songs are rather dark.

That definitely reads like Bellamy material to me

  • 1 month later...

I think recent Muse material sounds a lot more unique than earlier...

Anyway I love every bit of Muse's career, and don't feed me crap about Radiohead : I love them even more, and I don't have time to look for similarities between Muse and Radiohead, because there's even more influence from Pink Floyd on Radiohead than from Radiohead and Muse.

I don't care about influence : the music is good, I like it.

There's been a definite drop in quality since OOS/Absolution with Muse.

Black Holes was particularly disappointing due to how poor some of the tracks came out. Assassin was made out as a big beasting riffy epic when the track was first played live, it turned out a bit limp and about 2 mins too short. Exo-Politics just sounded plain awful.

In my opinion, The Resistance is a step back in the right direction (particularly Exogenesis) but they really need to get the ballads out of their system. Maybe now Bellzorz has broke up with his girlfriend he'll quit with the love songs, which Muse just can't do.

Moar songs bout conspiraciez plz.

I agree with this.
