July 3, 201312 yr Author Well until someone stops being lazy and thinks of an english word for pate, I'm too lazy to use the correct symbols.
July 3, 201312 yr I pronounce that as pay-t. I did get sent the codes for all the accents, etc, but can't be bothered learning them.
July 3, 201312 yr Author Pay-t?! Surely you see it as 'Payt'. Pate. Payt. Pate. Payt. But I find it quite incredible that despite not knowing French the symbols somehow make you pronounce words differently in your head. I still had a tiny amount of respect because you owned up to exactly how you googled the symbols, that has now vanished.
July 3, 201312 yr I admit to loving foie gras. I'd go as far as to say it's sublime. I easily disconnect myself from the ethical side. Which is worrying.
July 3, 201312 yr ^ When it comes to foie gras, once you tasted it, the notion of ethic just disappears under the souvenir of the incomparable deliciousness. I really wish I felt sorry for those animals. I usually do. But my love for foie gras is just too strong. We only eat foie gras like once or twice a year though.
July 3, 201312 yr that sounds that sodden/mouldy grass that cows won't touch  like foi that grass is gross
January 18, 201511 yr My mum just made me some toasts with pâté and for some reason it reminded me of this thread  I love pâté
January 19, 201511 yr I can never remember how to pronounce it properly and say 'payt' all in one syllable (like paint without the n)

January 20, 201511 yr It's pah-té There's no reason why it should be payt in English if it's pâté in French
