Haiti earthquake - Chris' message

Featured Replies

I feel so terrible for the people in Haiti. This was such a devastating quake.

A family friend of ours runs a medical clinic in Port-au-Prince, and I have no idea if it's still standing.

Yeah, me too.

I don't think he was there at the time (he lives here in the US), but I'm not sure. Even if he wasn't, I hope the clinic's okay. He put years of effort into it.

i want to donate, but i don't have any money. :bigcry:

and yes, kyra, i hope he and his clinic are all right! :\

I donated. I'm not working and barely have any money left, but this is more important than anything I could spend my remaining money on. There's just so much poverty in Haiti, they're not equipped whatsoever to handle this. It's so sad.

But, I'm glad to see that Chris is spreading the word. This is why he's my hero. And of course, he knows he can count on the generosity of Coldplay fans who would love to help. :)

Well said. :nice:

I'd love to help! :cheesy:

I have left over Christmas cash, so I wouldn't mind donating $5 or $10.

Just donated and am spreading the word on facebook. Help spread the word and hopefully more people will be aware of quick and easy ways they can donate.

This is why coldplay is one of the best fucking bands in the entire world!

im going to ask my parents if i can donate! i wish i had a credit card of my own!

I just finished spreading the word on facebook, twitter, and myspace. :D

I also convinced my dad to let me use his credit card to donate. :)

can you text to either of those charities even if your not in the us?

^ I don't know about the texting thing. I donated through Oxfam.

^^Good job convincing your dad! I feel like if you're going to talk your parents into doing something, this is probably one of the best things you could talk them in to.

donated!

good for Chris and good for all who's donating!:)

:) Yeah, it is. It was really easy though. All I said was something along the lines of, "Dad, thousands are dead, and Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere. They need help."

We really are the world. Chris put his foot forward and we'll take his lead. I work in a hospital and one of the aids from Haiti cant't find her family. Please pray.

i just texted to the 501501 number, am i supposed to get a conformation back? cause i haven't

I donated! oh what a power celebrities have on us!

Just donated via Oxfam. Gave till it hurt !

This is just heart wrenching.

Too think that even just beginning to recuperate means no more than returning to a tin shack for some at best is such a depressing reality.:(

I just love that Chris makes us aware of these horrible things. He is awesome

DONATE TO HAITI and SPREAD THE WORD

So far there have been posted links etc. to help via OXFAM.org.uk - http://www.redcross.org - ICRC via http://www.icrc.org and http://www.unicef.org.

Now AVAAC has sent out this appeal to donate:

Stand with Haiti‏

Dear friends,

Haiti's worst earthquake in 200 years struck yesterday, devastating the capital city, killing thousands and threatening over 3 million people in this desperately poor country.

Haitians are urgently appealing to the world for help -- we’re already in touch with strong local organisations mobilising community-based relief efforts.

Let’s send a worldwide wave of donations to the front lines, to save lives now and help people recover and rebuild. Avaaz will work partners to make sure the help reaches those who need it most. Click below to donate:

https://secure.avaaz.org/en/stand_with_haiti

Based on expert advice from leading humanitarian NGOs who have been working in Haiti for over 30 years, we'll offer donations to trusted local organizations, including:

Honor and Respect for Bel Air, a big community-based network in Haiti’s capital Port-au-Prince, which is also supported by our friends at the respected Brazilian NGO Viva Rio

Coordination Régionale des Organisations de Sud-Est (CROSE), which brings together some of the most active community groups in the South of Haiti where the earthquake struck hardest. These groups include: women's groups, schools networks and local cooperatives.

In 2008, Avaaz members donated over $2 million for Burmese monks to respond to the devastating Cyclone Nargis. Our money made an incredible difference there -- because it went directly to local people on the front lines of the aid effort.

Times of painful tragedy can bring out the best in us by bringing people together. Let's join with the people of Haiti to help them rescue their communities from this brutal disaster -- act now at this link:

With hope for Haiti,

Luis, Paul, Graziela, Paula, Ricken, Pascal, Alice, Benjamin, Milena and the whole Avaaz team

Donate to Haiti via one of the organizations - if you can. Any donations - also small ones - are welcome as it is the thought that counts. So please HELP / spread the news of this disaster.

I might actually go down there with Oxfam during my summer. I know it's a long way off, but telling how things are right now, they'll still need the help by then.

You're right - HAITI will be needing help for a very, very long time. It is very poor and its infrastructure is broken - large planes cannot fly to Haiti for the time being, but have to go there via the neighbouring state. TERRIBLE - good to see so many donations and so many words of support and compassion.
