If you thought PC Laptop was short, meet Britain's tiniest policewoman who, at 4ft 10in, is even smaller

At 4ft10in tall WPC Sue Day is the smallest police officer in the country.

But since the nickname Laptop has already been taken by another very short constable, her colleagues may have to call her something else in the computer line.

Notebook maybe. Or, smaller still, Mouse.

Last week it emerged that the name Laptop had been given to 5ft Robin Port - because he's a very small PC.

That means WPC Day, 37, a probationary officer with Wiltshire Police in Swindon, is expecting to have a new nickname when she returns to duty next week following a few days off.

She said: 'I don't mind all the banter from the other officers that comes with my size.

'I'm sure they'll all be calling me Notebook or something else now because I'm a similar size to the other officer - except smaller.'

WPC Day, 37, is so petite she has to have her uniform and stab vest custommade, but says her tiny frame can bring benefits when she's out fighting crime.

She came forward after reading on Wednesday about PC Port, of Devon and Cornwall Police.

'My size can be a big advantage,' she said. 'People give me respect for being this short and being a woman, while at the same time being a police officer, especially in confrontational situations.

'Sometimes I've been out in Swindon town centre when the nightclubs are emptying and there has been a brawl.

'But when the fighters see me they calm down. They say they would never hit a woman, especially one my size.'

WPC Day, who is single, is part of a 999 response team based at the town's Gablecross police station.

Most police forces in Britain required female recruits to be at least 5ft 4in until 1999, when the MacPherson Report ruled the height restriction was seen to discriminate against those of ethnic backgrounds such as the Chinese, who are generally shorter.

they won't need to jump over fences to catch the criminals, they can wriggle under them! :laugh3:
