OH! IRONY!

i recall my mom saying something about she had heard Trouble and liked it, but she didn't bother looking up Coldplay because she didn't think my dad would like them. and now her daughter is obsessed. crazy, crazy world.

:laugh3:I am glad I revived this thread :laugh3:

Heard Clocks and BOOM! I was hooked, plus I hated how so many people were on the DMB bandwagon. I wanted something fresh and not DMB haha.

Well i started listening to them but only their singles, but then when they played talk at the EMA 2005 awards, was blown away, went into HMV to decide whether i should buy Demon Days by Gorillaz or X&Y..bought X&Y :)

first album i ever bought too

I grew up listening to Coldplay and other bands like The Beatles, Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, Radiohead, etc. and absolutely loved all of them. My dad would play Coldplay a lot in the car, and I associate Clocks with driving in the mountains in Colorado because that's where I first heard the song. Ever since then, about five years ago, I've listened to them on my own and since the new album came out, I've driven my family practically insane with how obsessed I am with the music. :D

Reading all of these stories is so cool. A lot of people listen to Coldplay because of their parents...I had no idea! My mom could care less about Coldplay, you guys are lucky!

For me, it started with random Coldplay downloads senior year of high school after seeing "In My Place" on MTV every single night. (For some reason MTV was playing videos in the evening for a while?). I only loved "Trouble" and "Yellow," and left it at that...I didn't buy the AROBTTH and "Parachutes" until freshman year of college in 2003, though. Then in '04, here in Florida we had three hurricanes hit us one after the other. My power was out for days, and all I had was my portable CD player that ran on batteries. Those albums were my life. "Spies" became my favorite track during those days without electricity.

I haven't looked back since. And I've been laughed at for liking Coldplay, (especially after "The 40 Year-Old Virgin" came out!) and people have told me they are horrible. Whatever. This music represents a big part of my life. I have cried and laughed to it. I'm not a radio listener and never thought I'd love the music made by such a popular mainstream band, but I do. It's amazing too.

Coldplay fans unite. We're all great for it! I love all the stories. People are still discovering them, which is the best part. From the first batch of English fans to the people who just found the music, we're all great for it. We love Coldplay, that's all.

lovely thread:)

Way back to July 2005, I watched ONE TV commercial of X&Y and was impressed by the music and the cover artwork. By that time it was a world of Coldplay, I could see the guys everywhere - newspaper, TV, HMV and so on. Finally I bought one copy because I thought the cover artwork was so cool, and still think it is cool today. Then, you know what followed. This album even helped me getting thru some difficult times in 2005, too. Thx, Coldplay.

My conclusion: brilliant cover artwork WORKS :laugh3:
