Swearing

Featured Replies

Who swears? Stop fucking doing it.

Lul.

I notice Youtube doesn't have age verification for videos that have swearing, and not just the odd ef and shizz, but even lots of expletives. But I've never seen any groups or news items about people having a problem with this, yet we still have watershed times that make it illegal to swear up until a certain time on TV and Radio.

Does anyone care any more? Is it just commonly accepted that children can swear or hear swearing?

I've always wondered about the youtube thing, maybe it's too hard to manage the bucketloads of videos that are uploaded, and deciphering the harmless which have a tiny bit of swearing which isn't the main focal point of the video, but others where it's certainly the point of the video being uploaded.

For example the Natalie Portman Rap, the uncensored version is available to anyone of any age to look at, and 90% of the reason it's funny is because of how grotesque and abusive the rap is, coming from a respected actress.

So what do we think?

I don't think, I just live here.

On Youtube, a few of the really bad videos make you log on to your Youtube account before you can view it, and most of the kids that you wouldn't want viewing those don't have Youtube accounts. Other than that, I don't think there's much you can do. If people want to curse (to a certain extent) they can.

Is there really a problem with it anyway?

I'd like to say no, but the thought of kids just swearing casually infront of their parents sounds awfully dis-respectful (Not even "Fuck you mom" but "I went to the fucking shop and..." kinda swearing).

It is just words at the end of the day, and maybe the less offended we are by them, the more ridiculous and less offensive they will seem.

On the other hand it might just make people invent new swear words, or even swear actions eventually (Eg a punch).

I don't know. I guess it depends. Like I don't believe in saying "Fuck you mom," or even "Stop being such a bitch, mom," but I think that swearing has almost become part of the language. It's not quite accepted yet, but it's not as bad to swear as it used to be.

Yep, I guess that's what I was getting at, it's not as bad as it used to be.

It makes me wonder what else will get more acceptable, no certificates on violent games like GTA or films?

Or will all this political correctness eventually lead to a utopic society, one in which we don't need certificates, a society where parents can decide for themselves what's appropriate for their children to see, a society where birds sing our favourite songs on request and in perfect harmony, and we all work in unity, like the sun and a rainbow?

Not likely. It was a thought. :wacky:

I'd hope that children who do use youtube are a bit older and/or have a bit of maturity, so swearing is something they have heard before and hearing it on a video will not affect them.

In my family, my 12 year old brother is the youngest so we're not that uptight on swearing rules. **** is not allowed, but my mom would tell my brother to fuck off ( in a joking way ) :nice: ...and i can do the same.

But when he swears just for the sake of swearing, i do ( ironically ? ) tell him to cop the fuck on.

I see what you mean. Although GTA is rated as it is for more than just swearing

Yes, I wasn't allowed to use Youtube until I was either 11 or 12

I think it's mainly up to parents for how much swearing they let there kids be exposed too, although sometimes it's unavoidable.

A few days ago I was walking down the street and heard some little nine or ten year old saying some pretty nasty things to his mother. :blank:

Yeah I believe most housewives know the official title as "That Game Where You Can Shoot Prostitutes".

I agree in that I find kids cursing unacceptable.

To me it's also a bit akward sounding as well. I have younger siblings so when I hear them cursing it's really weird, and also I think it's not very polite or whatever.

Also I have no tolerance for kids cursing seriously at their parents... i think it's extremely rude.

Okay, I know this kind of proves the point of the thread, but what the fuck are talking about? First off Justin Bieber is the only of those three artists that is even close to being that young. Second, none of these artists are known for profuse swearing. What the hell is wrong with your demented little brain that you just pull out the names of people you don't like and isult them in instances that have NOTHING to do with them?

I read that Bieber/Gargoyle etc. post and I've put said user on Ignore, something I'd never thought I'd do, but Ian recommended it to me and I was caught on the fact that the people you Ignore can't post in threads you make.

So all valid points, you don't have to worry about a response.

Okay.

I don't believe swearing in youtube videos entices kids to swear in front of their parents, I swear allllll the time, but almost never seriously in front of my daddy, I mean the occasional "shit" or "fuck" slipping out if I injure myself, but I even keep the "what the hell"s and "damn"s down (which he really doesn't care about).

(And he goes around calling public figures cocksuckers all the time, with such venom too, it's funny.)

I only swear when I'm really mad.

Well, I swear a lot when I'm trying to over-exaggerate things. For example;

"It was a a reallly FUCKING big mongoose!"

Just curious Reilly, if you have someone on ignore, do you still see that user's post if someone quotes it?

I do that too, like, "THIS motherFUCKING HOMEWORK IS THE MOST FUCKED UP FUCKERY I'VE EVER HAD THE FUCKING MISFORTUNE OF ENCOUNTERING" but more like for comic effect usually. It gets tons of "wtf" type laughs.

Not on this forum type, because for example, if I had quoted someone else in the post that you quoted me on, it wouldn't be seen by anyone in your post.

Y'know what I mean?
