Do you listen to albums or just let your music player go random

Featured Replies

For the first time I just have my full library on random. So far so good.

Sometimes I listen to albums, but normally I listen to a playlist of my favorite artists/bands on random (which is 948 songs), but never my full library.

Depends how I'm feeling. Like, if I just have a hankering for Paul Meany, I'll listen to MuteMath albums. Normally though I just put all my songs on shuffle. :nice:

Usually it's on shuffle, usually, i end up skipping most of the songs. On rare occasions, or when i add a new album i listen to the whole thing.

I rarely put my itunes on shuffle, but i will jump around from song to song when listening.

I am a big fan of albums, so even if I don't like some of the songs, I force myself to at least give it a try. The only time I go shuffle is when I get a bunch of new stuff that people are recommending, but it's not clicking. Sometimes you'll find one song amongst a bunch of different songs that just clicks. But once it does, I go back to the album. Good question.

I guess why I'm interested is because you see so many people's ipods are just a bazillion different artists with a song or two from each artist, and we seem to be in the "shuffle" music generation.

As a kid I used to always listen to cds in my cd player on random but stopped doing that in high school. Silly little Briggs.

Actually, what I said above isn't completely true. I often listen to shuffle when I am at the gym.

Always albums for me. If I'm in a Radiohead mood I'll type in Radiohead and roll through an album or two.

Yeah, it isn't the same if you don't listen to the album.

I always get so used to the order of the songs on the album that whenever I do shuffle my music, I usually always have to go to the song that normally comes after it on the album.

It just sounds so much better to me.

That makes sense. Do you just shuffle everything or have specific playlists for gymming it up to?

You all should listen to Cut Copy's "In Ghost Colours". That album flows together SEAMLESSLY. The first time I listened I never knew when a new song was starting.

^that's why I love the second side of Abbey Road the songs from Because to the end of the album flow so well... honestly i'd have to say my favorite 20-some odd minutes of music ever.

I listen to what I feel like listening to...

Sometimes I'll do the shuffle thing but I always skip tracks

Both, I love listening to full albums front to back, but I also have a ton of playlists and mix c.d.'s for the car.

I shuffle everything. I have a couple of playlists, but I shuffle those, too. I don't like knowing what's coming next when I'm at the gym, especially when weight training. I can listen to pretty much anything when I do cardio.

i used to listen music on random while ago, mostly used the radio option (with online player/software), since i had spotify i always listen the whole albums mainly cause i check new stuff and yet i like to check it properly to have a better idea of the album/artist.

usually it's full albums for me but when i download a whole lot of music i might go through and listen to single songs just to get an idea of what the albums are like. but yeah over the last 4 or 5 years ive become very much an album type of person.

i sort of have the view that an album is like a movie. you cant properly appreciate a great movie by just watching the best scenes. in the same way you cant appreciate a record by just picking our your favourite tracks.

My "shuffle mode" is BBC 6 Music, in my iTunes library I nearly only listen to full albums or I jump around, manually selecting songs.

^^

yeah im pretty much like that too. Australia's Triple J is my equivalent to "shuffle"
