April 22, 201313 yr I learned (or was reminded, rather) that if I don't get some ice cream right after dinner, it will probably be gone by the time I finally decide to have it. :disappointed:
June 3, 201313 yr Author I straightened out a misconception I had about something I'd not really thought about before thanks to a little reading. Given that life expectancy 150 years ago in my country was around 40 years on average, I had always presumed that plenty of 40 year olds were dying and it was something of a rarity to see somebody above that age when compared to now. I had of course been blind to the increased rates of infant deaths (naturally I knew about them but hadn't factored them into the average life expectancy). I now know that even in the ancient times, outside of a time when a specific disease was terrorising society, if you lived past childhood, you had a good chance of living into your seventies and beyond. Obvious when you read it but not something I'd actively considered enough to draw that conclusion.
June 3, 201313 yr I learned that my teacher is more awesome than i expected him to be, because he's also going to the Muse concert tomorrow and he called them "world's best band" :D

June 3, 201313 yr Author All deaf people or only those who were born deaf? Good question. It did not stipulate. It would make sense that it was people who were born deaf, or became deaf in their early years - age 4 is typically when children become aware of their inner speech, although it is uncertain as to whether this reflects their inability to reflect on their own thought processes, or the fact that inner speech is not yet fully internalised by that age.
July 7, 201312 yr I learned that grandparents can be incredibly generous at times. And that Community on DVD can really help time pass quickly on a 14 hour car ride...
