April 8, 201115 yr I think it's slightly more clichéd to have shitloads of idols, and I agree with the rest, these are just people, and there are none who I think are 'idols' or anything. Also, if I 'idolised' some singer from some band, my friends would probably think I'm super faeg, well kinda, they'd think it was *awkward silence*-worthy level of awkwardness. I'm 24 years old, I don't have fucking Jeff Buckley posters. I agree with this, I'm 23 years old, there are people I look up to and respect alot musically etc, do I want to be just like them, have all thier posters and know what they ate for breakfast last tuesday?, er no it interests me about as much as watching paint dry.
April 8, 201115 yr I'd never say that the people I've mentioned (except Sof:wacky:) are my real idols....because for me idols don't exist either...of course there are people I admire for what they've done or for what they are doing, but I'd never want to be exactly like any of them...that'd be boring....people should come up with their own stuff
April 8, 201115 yr Girls may freak out about Bieber or the Jonas Brothers, but not nearly as much as they freaked out about Elvis or The Beatles or even Donny Osmond for that matter, who was the Justin Bieber of the early 70s. Fifty years ago, if you were famous, EVERYONE knew who you were. And this was all possible without the internet. With all these "idol" shows and hollywood cranking out stars by the minute (most of them getting their 15 minutes of fame and then fading into obscurity), the term has gotten watered-down exponentially over the past few generations.
April 8, 201115 yr I'm not too keen on him as an adult either, my favourite Star Wars character by far has to be Darth Sidious, anyone who can pull the wool over everyones eyes, mastermind himself to Emperor of the Galaxy and eletrocute Samuel L 'muthafuckin' Jackson out of a skyscraper window deserves some credit:laugh3:.

I don't think it's about people wanting to emulate their heroes. It's just that we can learn from them as role models and be struck by their efforts out with their professions. Am I inspired by my idols? Can I learn from them in their conduct of their lives despite living different lives? Yes of course. That's certainly what I take from my listed idols.

April 17, 201115 yr I shouldn't forget Jonas Bjerre, because I started up writing my poetry after hearing those wonderful lyrics he writes. Oh me, is more I am inspired by God, ( belief private) after having received this lovely poem one day in 2005 . http://img26.imageshack.us/img26/1825/unechance.jpg but apparently nobody knows what Jonas wrote these lyrics so nobody can learn from him in his own life. but because it takes a lot of empathy, love, sadness. lonely, empty in the understanding, lost of love because the nastyness of people .

April 18, 201115 yr I don't think it's about people wanting to emulate their heroes. It's just that we can learn from them as role models and be struck by their efforts out with their professions. Am I inspired by my idols? Can I learn from them in their conduct of their lives despite living different lives? Yes of course. That's certainly what I take from my listed idols. I think it's more the terminology of 'idol' that's the issue, rather than people saying there is nothing to be learned from people. We can draw inspiration from people, but to idolise somebody is very silly. People change, whether that is the person being idolised or the person idolising. It's just silly to put people in boxes. Let them earn your respect, then let them maintain that respect. If they do then they do, and that's good but don't be surprised if they don't.
