Wedding Bells = Darkness On The Edge Of Town ?

Featured Replies

Spanish Rain is very very similar to Dancing in the dark by Bruce Springsten. Too similar, I dare to say it´s the same melody.

yes, it's really, really similar :uhoh: I hope they get people to listen to their new songs before releasing them so they can point out things like these to them. I know it sometimes may be unintentional (it happens to me after discussing ideas for papers or stuff that I end up believing I came up with something when actually I heard it from someone else) but they should have someone to check these things. I wouldn't want another Viva La Vida drama thing happening with LP5.

Maybe, I didn't listen to it but I will.

But do you think that Wedding bells is similar to Darkness on the edge of town ?

No, I don't think so. Unlike Spanish Rain when a bigger part is similar and you can really tell, the only part I find sort of similar is the melody part of " I always loved you and I always will" in Wedding Bells. There are lots of songs with similar parts and I don't think they've been all copied and I think this is the case, for after all if you really look for it, you will find similarities between lots of songs.

This someone should be Brian Eno....

I'll say it once again, Coldplay references are too obvious sometimes. I agree in thinking it's something completely unintentional though.

I agree, it's no coincidence that Chris became obsessed with Springsteen, listening to everything, talking about him in interviews, going to see him many times in concert and then we got Spanish Rain...I'm not saying it's purposeful but it does happen. I can't believe non of the other boys picked up on Spanish Rain though as it's so obvious.

Chris doesn't help himselves in interviews by constantly saying they're the world's best plagiarists either, even if he is joking...it was an issue during the Satriani case and maybe the reason it all just suddenly went away without getting to trial...

I agree with the fact that "I always loved you and I always will" looks like a little of the chorus of Darkness On The Edge Of Town but it's purely a coincidence. It could be another song and a lot of songs look like each other, even if they're not created at the same time. But Coldplay had a problem with that, we can't deny, they had the Joe Striani thing, it was really weird because they deny it but it was really similar tho. But we will never know. Because I believe there is no link between vlv and the song by Joe Striani and I also believe that they can be related too. It's an endless debate.

Agree. He talked about Springsteen all the time for a while and obviously it's gonna influence his writing etc

I must say that hearing Dancing In The Dark after Spanish Rain, I am pretty disappointed... I truly hope that the songs do not end on LP5... Cause they can do better, they can do their own music.
