September 12, 201015 yr Seriously, my father keeps rambling about it. I know that downloading stuff puts the computer at risk of viruses, but so far I'm okay. How do I convince my father?
September 13, 201015 yr Nyahahaha. I told my dad that if it's a virus it has a .nyh at the end of the file, or tell him a shitload of technical stuff that will make his brain turn into flubber.
September 13, 201015 yr Get a really good virus scanner, and scan every day that you download something. Print the results and make a book. See? Nothing today, Dad. Still nothing. Nothing today either. See? Still fine.
September 13, 201015 yr Author That would be a good idea, but I'm using a free anti-virus. Does it still work then? :P
September 13, 201015 yr may be he will complain more if the stuff you download change the computer configuration, but same could happen if you install a game from a CD. do as space cadet said, try to get a good virus scanner.
September 13, 201015 yr I hear if you download porn at a moderate but steadily increasing rate, your computer will build up an immunity.
September 13, 201015 yr Author Eh, why, is Mac immune to virus or something? ^:wtf: The computer's like a human body? LOL
September 13, 201015 yr ^it looks good and YOU CANT GET A VIRUS, other than that no real advantages really? I didn't know that... brb getting a mac.
September 14, 201015 yr ^^ you obviously didnt get a real mac then. the only thing that has ever crashed on my mac is MSN, which is a windows product. i dont think twice before downloading anything or clicking a link. as long you keep snow leopard up to date (which might mean sacrificing about 500MB of your download limit, if you have one, each month) you should be pretty safe from viruses. best of all of you dont constantly have things popping up all over the screen whenever you try to download something or go to a so-called "unsafe" website. of course there are a number of downsides to having a mac. you can forget about being able to play most computer games and the amount of software available for it is quite limited compared to windows (but there are ways of getting around it) but those things dont bother me. it's really a matter of whats important to you rather than a clear superiority of either OS.
September 14, 201015 yr Author I don't play computer games so that part doesn't bother me. 500MB? Isn't that pretty much... I should get a Mac someday, after this old desktop crashes.
September 14, 201015 yr I know that downloading stuff puts the computer at risk of viruses, but so far I'm okay. Well, do you know a general list of dodgy sites you shouldn't download from? Also what file sizes to expect for file formats?
September 14, 201015 yr Author Well, do you know a general list of dodgy sites you shouldn't download from? Also what file sizes to expect for file formats? I actually depend on how I feel about the site. If it seems safe, then I would. :\ What do you mean by the second one? I estimate the size of a file I want to download though.
September 14, 201015 yr Macs are too pricey and hugely overrated. Just don't download stupid things. I've never had any viruses and i've had my laptop for around 5 years. And I've been on some crazy things online :p
