I'm trying to save up enough to take a mini-vacation in December for a few days to get away and go up north where it'll be cooler. I was looking at train tickets because I've always wanted to take a train across the country. I hear trains can be a lot of fun and an adventure.

 

Option 1- It's about 240 for a round-trip train ticket to New York City, however hotels there are extremely expensive..cheapest I saw was 170 for a 3 star. So I'd only afford to stay one night and go back. But I've never been to NY and always wanted to go.

 

Option 2-Go to Boston for about the same prices as round-trip to NY. Hotels seem to be cheaper there. I've always wanted to visit Boston.

 

Option 3-Take a plane to Ohio(train will be 400 round-trip, too expensive but I hate planes with a passion.) and see the family. Stay a few nights on the farm and enjoy a day or two of hunting.

Farm :awesome: Though NYC is probably the greatest city in the world and Boston is beautiful.

You could come to the "D", and it's right next to Ohio :awesome:

I think the hotel that I stayed at was like a $120, and I think that was more of the inexpensive hotels, but still was nice. Also it was convenient what hotel I had because it was less than a block from the subway, so when I went to the music festival it was so easy to get there and back.

 

Also if you went to go Canada you have to get a passport... prior to 9/11 you could cross the border easily w/o any passport (from what i've read)

I agree... like I mentioned earlier I went to Montreal this summer and it was something I never did before or went to before and it was great! So I agree and think it's good to go places you never been before.

that's a good idea... or another option... you could also get a hotel/motel outside of the city and then just take the train into grand central.

hostels are a good idea, but searching online for reviews and opinions first it's very important to stay in a decent place!

Looking at the options I'd say Boston (though I have no idea what that place is like). It looks like you'll be able to stop longer as it is cheaper, and you won't have to fly. New York is better spread out over a longer period of time, I would imagine. Hostels are a great idea.

I voted for NYC though lol! I've been there (and am DYING to go back as you can see :tongue:) and fell in love with this place. But Boston is wonderful too, I really loved it. I can't say anything about Ohio as I've never been there but I'm sure it's great too :wacky:!

Not really, at least I don't think so. Ohio is pretty boring. There's a great amusement park in northern Ohio next to Lake Erie (Cedar Point), but that closes shortly after Halloween. Ohio is a bit blah unless you have a good reason to go there.
