It isn't because they commit sucide, Like that reply says, it happens all the time.

It's more that these boys were bullied for the way they are.

 

 

Sure people are bullied everyday, people commit sucide everyday, but i think it's nice to show a small bit of support :nice:

And like many others there's not much else I can do but show my support for them.

Ive not heard of this but I think I agree with the email. Surely It would be better to wear purple for everyone that is thinking of suicide?

I'm all for it. Easy to jump on a bandwagon and say everyone should be remembered but there are already days for suicide and mental health. Bullying people for their sexuality is a problem and I have no issues with it having it's own day.

Oh, for some reason I thought it was today; good thing it's not, because I forgot to put on my purple sweater! I'll make sure I'm all purpled-out tomorrow. :nice:

I'm wearing today. And only 5 more people at my school (about 400 kids) are wearing purple. Kind of sad, but you really can't expect much from people.

I wouldn't worry too much if you missed it guys. Awareness is the key, and that can be achieved through discussion. Having a day specifically for it is useful to attract awareness but nobody is going to think less of you if you didn't know or forgot. Mention it to a friend though, and make somebody else aware. Wearing purple is not the be all and end all.

I don't buy that argument at all.

 

It's sort of like breast cancer awareness, obviously there are other kinds of cancer and people dieing from different forms of cancer, but still its okay to have a special day of awareness for that.

 

If you know of other issues that cause people to commit suicide than go ahead and start a movement to raise awareness!

in the past month 6 gay teens in the US have committed suicide because of bullying from other kids in school and this is just a day in honor of them

Also, I don't see why people are bitching about this. If they want to have special days, they should start movements for them too, like Briggs said.
