I love how you're assuming things about us, it really makes you look smart.

I'm not a believer in God but You are being totally biased towards creationism and not accepting that maybe some people believe in that.

So you think I can't criticize Creationism?

trying to get back on track then,

I like what kelsey said at the beginning that God created us to evolve :nice:

It's a cool thought and being born into a family with religion it's nice to have some sort of belief in god.

I didn’t lie as you so eloquent put it, I just don’t remember ever insulting Christians or anyone else on this thread. And as for us being intolerant hypocrites, the point that I was trying to make in my previous post was that it is okay for people to say whatever they want, and they shouldn’t keep quiet just because what they are saying offends someone. How can I be intolerant when everyone I have ever known has been religious, my family and friends are all religious? How can I be a hypocrite if I say that you can make fun of me and my beliefs all you want? All I am trying to say is that our, and I mean all of us, that our Freedom of Speech shouldn’t be pushed aside because someone is offended by what we say, and btw the previous post wasn’t addressed to you specifically, it was addressed to everyone.

You're intolerant because you won't accept the fact that not everyone chooses to believe the same thing as you, you're constantly insulting people for believing in God, you're constantly saying "what a load of idiots, how could someone believe in an imaginary man in the sky?" You're forcing your beliefs on others. I would never call anyone an idiot for not believing in God, or make fun of them for believing whatever they believe in. Yes, you have the right to say what you want, but you should realize it's really annoying and insulting to lots of people. If you want to debate about or criticize something, don't resolve to belittling other people and their beliefs.

Thank you.

Yes that is a very reasonable position, unlike some hard core Creationists who don’t even believe in Evolution.

Kelsie, I swear we're twins. :blank:

You can say why you believe in Evolution and why you don't believe in God

but Saying that it's all a load of rubbish and not justifying it.

Besides You are just going about this thing so immaturely can't we just leave it at there are 2 sides neither are fully Proved because there is nobody who can tell us how everything started

First of all I personally did not say any of these things, and yes I know they are rude and insulting; but we shouldn’t tell people to shut up just because we find the things they say to be offensive, that is kind of like censorship and I hate censorship

Thank you.

I don't get how people can that closed off to idea when there is so much evidence.

Extremes of anything is nearly always bad ( referring to both sides )

It's not just that it's insulting and rude, it's also very, very immature. You do not know how to have a mature debate. You come across as an ignorant person.

I can and will debate all I want, and just because someone is offended by my stance is not going to stop me. The point you are all missing is that the only group I have made fun of is hard core Creationists who don't believe in Evolution and think the world is 6000 years old, I know not everyone thinks like this but I am just making fun of the people who do.

Braddock your historical lecture on Russia pre revolution, Germany and Italy quite frankly does not add up. You trying to say that Hitler killed the Jews and tried taking over the world because of religion? Are you trying to say the Tsar's faith was somehow related to the ravishing of the Russian state? Don't be so ridiculous. So I guess Mao and Stalin's oppression of religion was okay in your eyes. You see there are two sides to this story. Neither is correct so the argument is defunct. And also what do you mean by ", my advice to you would be to find a society which has adopted the teachings of the Spinoza, Voltaire, Galileo, Einstein, Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson and gone down the pits as a result of doing so, into famine, war, dictatorship, repression and torture. That would be a fair test." Are you saying I don't believe in these philosophy's? You're points are incredibly hazy.

I am saying that Religion was used in the case of Hitler and Stalin, and it was not simply a case of THIS IS ATHEISM. My knowledge on Mao is far less great however so I did not comment on that.

Also I was not saying you were aware of those philosophies, it was more that you had the ridiculous idea that atheism could be blamed for Hitler and Stalin.

The incidents that we point to are events that have taken place directly because of the religious texts and teachings by those in power of the religions (and it certainly is power). I was simply suggesting that to use a fair way of attacking atheism you would have to use a society which enacts the mantras of other forms of knowledge, such as literature.

And if you honestly believe that I think what Stalin did was OK then I have nothing more to say to you.

You seem to be the person hurling around accusations based on very little, not I.

I am sorry but you don't understand what I am trying to say, and I see no point in arguing any further since you keep missing the point.

Freedom of speech doesn't count when it infringes on someone's rights or freedoms.

This is not true.

Freedom of speech should be an entirety, not limited. And then it is up to people to criticise and scrutinize if they wish.

I would not like to live in a society where people could not say what they felt, regardless of what I feel about it. Just don't be surprised if I put up arguments against it if I disagree with it.

Freedom of speech does not affect another persons rights or freedoms, so I really don't understand what you were trying to say.

yes that is true, quick story I was in my little sisters school libarary and the librarian was pointing to the classic Evolution poster which show the upright man at the end, and she was telling the kids how she thought Evolution was stupid and childish because it says we evolved from monkeys :dozey:

You're saying that you have the right to mock creationists or religious people because you're against censorship, no?

I'm telling you that doing that makes you look really ignorant and intolerant.

Also, what's with this double standard? It's okay to make fun of religious people, but god forbid you make fun of someone for any other reason.

I don't get how people can that closed off to idea when there is so much evidence.

I don't think this was aimed at me, but I will add my point anyway.

I see no evidence that backs up organised religion. I don't believe that I am an atheist, although I lean towards that side. Certainly if there was a god I feel that it would be more of an energy. I still lean towards atheism however, and I am satisfied with not knowing. Personal spirituality, belief in god and anything like that is absolutely fine in my book. Religion is a problem though.

I just have to respond, I don't know about society as a whole, but for me personally I believe you can say whatever you want, even if that means making fun of someone's religion, colour, class, body, anything. That is what freedom of speech is and if you think that is ignorant and intolerant than that's okay, you can also say whatever you want.

You do realize the meaning of freedom of speech is not "I can say anything I want whenever I want", right?

I don't think this was aimed at me, but I will add my point anyway.

NO IT WASN'T DIRECTED TOWARDS YOU FUCK OFF :charming:

I have to agree with you with being more on the atheist side, but I am not totally against religion. Being brought up with both catholic and protestant, I see many benefits. For one I love the sense of community it creates.

Just because you have the right to do something, doesn't mean it isn't wrong to do that. You seriously think it's okay to make fun of someone because of their skin color? Wow.

As I have said a few times on this board I wish we could actually have freedom of speech, because only through that comes education. People could put their ideas forward and the racism, homophobia, sexism and any other prejudice would be ridiculed. Things like this wouldn't be kept under wraps, with small pockets of people hidden, plotting against each other. This would still happen, but it would decrease a lot as through debate, discussion and the search for knowledge, people would become better educated when it comes to colour, creed, sex and sexuality. A lot more people would be saved from their own ignorance this way.

It would also let you know just who the fucking idiots were, so you could avoid them.
