Evolution vs. Creationism!

Just because you have the right to do something, doesn't mean it isn't wrong to do that. You seriously think it's okay to make fun of someone because of their skin color? Wow.

This is not what she said, however the first sentence you said is true. I think what she was trying to say is that people should have the right to say it, and then it should be scrutinized and criticised if need be.

That is a proper debate. Silencing people doesn't work. They will only rebel in more sinister ways than simply language.

it seems many people don't know what freedom of speech is

"•Freedom of speech is the freedom to speak without censorship and/or limitation. The synonymous term freedom of expression is sometimes used to indicate not only freedom of verbal speech but any act of seeking, receiving and imparting information or ideas, regardless of the medium used. ..."

please read these things before arguing any further.

yes thank you, my only point is that we should not silence people.

and once again you miss the point completely.

No I'm not. I know what freedom of speech is. You don't know the difference between right and wrong, however. I have all the right in the world to call someone an idiot or make a racist remark about a person but I wouldn't, because it is so wrong to do that. Treat other people how you'd want to be treated.

As I have said a few times on this board I wish we could actually have freedom of speech, because only through that comes education. People could put their ideas forward and the racism, homophobia, sexism and any other prejudice would be ridiculed. Things like this wouldn't be kept under wraps, with small pockets of people hidden, plotting against each other. This would still happen, but it would decrease a lot as through debate, discussion and the search for knowledge, people would become better educated when it comes to colour, creed, sex and sexuality. A lot more people would be saved from their own ignorance this way.

It would also let you know just who the fucking idiots were, so you could avoid them.

yes, talking openly and freely about issues without any fear of consorship is important for growth, that is the difference between Nazi Germany the Soviet Union and us.

I did scrutinize her for mocking Christians and then she went on a rant about censorship.

I see you ignored the section in the wikipedia article called limitations on freedom of speech.

I don't think you understand what Freedom of speech is.

I understand exactly what freedom of speech is.

Nobody is saying that the current use of freedom of speech is perfect as it is.

It isn't.

I am sorry but I'm done here.

You said I shouldn't mock anyone at all, you were telling me what I can or cannot say.

You've got to draw a line somewhere with freedom of speech

Say if a kid was being bullied and people were saying threatening stuff to him

he can't just say it's freedom of speech because being hurtful to someone in that way isn't right.

Basicly you have to know when something is out of order to say about someone

that is not protected under freedom of speech, it is called hate speech because it promotes violence, and that is illegal.

I would be surprised if a thread kept on-topic for this long.

When this happens the affected child should be educated on the lack of weight behind their bullies claims, and the bullies themselves should be educated. It's the only way.

This thread has moved off topic.

agreed, what should we do to bring it back on track?

You said I shouldn't mock anyone at all, you were telling me what I can or cannot say.

I only told you that it makes you look like an intolerant, ignorant person and that it's really immature.

Which is fine.

You can believe that and she can put forward her beliefs.

It is not like she is calling for religious people (from organised religion) to be persecuted. I am sure she would much rather them be educated on the dangers of organised religion and their previous history.

agreed, what should we do to bring it back on track?

I'm kinda ready for the next topic now. I've said plenty in this thread.

But still it keeps dragging me back haha.

I will wait for a day or two, see if everyone has had their say on this topic and if it is dead by then I will post the Halloween themed topic for next week ;)

Intolerance, ignorance, and immaturity are not bad things, because they altogether bring ultimate happiness!

Ignorance is bliss... no wonder I'm so happy!!!!!!:D:lol::D:lol:
