Evolution vs. Creationism!

Featured Replies

Haha, OK then. I'm intrigued as to what it could be. Oh, that reminds me I have an idea for a topic. It revolves around evolution, but doesn't involve religion (wow, lots of 'volves' there). I'm not sure if it has the legs to be a discussion for a week though.

I'll post it in the ideas thread.

My point is that if you're not going to respect other people's opinions, then don't expect other people to respect yours.

you can PM it to me, so I have a record of it for future reference

A decent point but nobodies opinions should be respected by a person unless people agree with them, or disrespected unless you disagree with them. Just because somebody doesn't respect your opinions, doesn't mean you should not respect theirs, based purely on that point. The idea is to retaliate through debate on why your believe that their belief is wrong, rather than just arguing for arguments sake.

I understand what you were saying though, in trying to make her see that a lack of respect for a persons belief can be quite annoying, but I think the problem is that this debate has become about language, and the only language which is dangerous is inciteful language, which in itself should be open to debate and ridicule, rather than simply trying to suppress it. There has been no language used to incite hate in this thread, so why people have taken things so personal I don't understand.

Do you accept people who are homophobic? People who cover up child rape? Or even people whose tolerance of this allow it to happen?

I think that's a bit unfair to say. I know many Christians who are in no way homophobic (myself included). The part about child rape is also a bit unfair to say, as it did not occur in all Christian churches, and within the branch of Christianity that it did happen in, it was not in every single Catholic church. That's like saying all Muslims are terrorists. It's an unfair view of a group of people.

We should discuss whether the earth is more, less, or just as racist as it used to be. :surprised:

Exactly, we're not expecting others to respect us, we're just some poor God-needing people that should be pitied, not listened to.

I am not saying that all people are like this but the Church as a mechanism is homophobic. Please look back at my previous posts in the thread. It is also fair to point out that I was not accusing all Christian churches of child rape.

It is in no way saying that all Muslims are terrorists. The Catholic Church, including the Pope, have covered up many incidents of child rape, and not expelled those involved, simply moved them to a new parish in order to distance itself from the shame. They should take responsibility and care for those affected and they would get more praise for prevention, rather than thinking only of their own image. So yes, I feel my statement on child rape was fair with regards to the Catholic Church (as a mechanism), although I didn't name it specifically as i was running through the odious crimes of many Religions in one. Since they have come up in this conversation I will say specifically that the Catholic Church has a lot to answer for, and is only made to when they are found out.

Supporting an organisation which fails to prevent child rape, and in some circumstances allows it to continue and spreads it (when they move the person involved to a new area and don't remove them from the church, allowing them to infect a whole new group of people) is not something that I think should be ignored, so Catholics themselves should search deep inside themselves and question whether supporting this is indeed a good thing. That is all I can ask of them, I would not force anybody to change their religion of course.

Please read through my posts again.

You do realise that a substantial part of world racism can be found in religion? I don't think you would like that thread either.

Wait, why don't you think I would like it? I'm a bit confused. :P

You seem to be offended by this thread.

I'm actually not all that offended. Although I'm not even sure I understand the concept of it or what it feels like or anything. I don't know if I get "offended" about things.

I should be the one who is offended, I've been called stupic, arogant, ignorant, childish, and all kinds of other nice things on this thread, even though I haven't really done anything, but I'm not offended I think it's great that you all think so highly of me.

This is a good thing, since being offended means nothing in the great scheme of things and gives people no extra rights (as much as they believe it does do. So I like that you can't get offended.

And I'm glad that you aren't offended.

I'm too lazy to read all that, which is where my problem comes from. :P

I agree with you though, the Catholic church always seems to be hiding something, and they need to deal with the problem instead of avoiding it.

I'm slightly afraid that people hate me now for my posts in this thread though, or think I'm not very nice. :P

Well I sure as hell don't.

It is your right to voice your opinions.

I just hope you read it in full. What you made of it is entirely up to you.

DO YOU THINK CREATIONISM SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCIENCE CLASSROOMS AT SCHOOL?

There isn't anyone on this site that I Hate, Yeah from time to time I Disagree with what some people say but I Don't hate anyone

DO YOU THINK CREATIONISM SHOULD BE TAUGHT IN SCIENCE CLASSROOMS AT SCHOOL?

No.

I think if they're gonna teach one thing they should have to teach everything.

I think schools are very inconsistent when it comes to religion, like how they're okay with people wearing turbans and stuff due to the religion for it, but they're not okay with some other things related to different religions, among many other different things. Discrimination or trying to not be seen as being discriminative or what?
