Sailing?

Featured Replies

Anyone have any experience sailing? Probably the wrong place to ask this question.

A friend is thinking about buying a 40ft sailboat. He asked me the other day if I'd sail with him to Europe.

He was a sailor boy, she said see ya later boy.

(That is what my mum thought the song said)

I've never been sailing, but I think it'd be a lot of fun and great experience!

But sailing to Europe? to me that might be too long of a distance, especially being out on the open water on your own.

^Know some people who did it with their children. And back I think.

Don't like boats personally :\

I've been sailing once but they wouldn't let me steer because I almost crashed :blank:

It was good though, unlike the other group who very almost capsized it was hard not to laugh :P

Whoa, that's a long way. :surprised:

Wow, to Europe? That's a really long way...sounds super risky too. :uhoh: /paranoia

I've never been sailing, but it looks like fun.

Went sailing once in Adriatic and a storm hit us, I was sick next 5 days. And Atlantic can be rough! You have to be with someone who really knows how to sail.

I know a guy whi sailed from Europe to USA by himself! But he's been at the see since he was 3.

On subject, my Dad sails almost everyday, I go out with him every now and then.

I've been sailing a few times with my dad's friend, who lives on a sailboat. . .

Of course, I wouldn't call that experience with handling a sailboat, but if you're looking for an opinion I'd say it would be a wonderful experience. :nice:

I've sailed a small boat on a lake when I was about 10, I enjoyed it but sailing the Atlantic?, fuck that, just get on a plane and be in Europe in 8 hours(If you're on the East Coast anyway).

takes me away...

But to answer the question, no I haven't been sailing. I see lots in the summer when I visit Lake Michigan though.

Never been sailing, but I think it would be a great experience!

If he gets the boat, I think we should try sailing to South America first or maybe go up the coast north. I'm not sure if he'll actually buy it, he was also thinking of getting a house. But if he does, both of us don't have much experience with this kind of thing. That would probably make it more fun and interesting that way.

Haha are you like trying to miss the point?

Yeah and dangerous as fuck.

Yeah I'm w/ Reilly on this one. I'd at least probably take some classes on sailing or navigation or whatever first. I mean if you were just sailing the boat on a lake, then I wouldn't worry about it... but traveling a couple hundred or even thousand miles is another story.

I just don't think sailing the Atlantic would be much fun, in fact it would be pretty horrible, so I do miss the point of the trip:P.
