I still don't really see it as an album.

Exactly. I see it as an EP instead. :|

what? its 8 songs and 38mins. it is very well produced and they've been working on this for quite some time. what about it doesn't make it an album? why can't we just accept that it isn't their best work and end this constant denial.

The album itself is very short and doesn't flow well or have really much of a theme to me. I still feel the album is split into 2 parts. The first part is jazzy electronica (Bloom-Lotus Flower), and then the 2nd part is just completely different and goes for an acoustic or stripped down sound.

I mean I guess of course it's officially an album, but it doesn't feel full.

Like I don't know about you but most albums that I've listened to tend to feel complete, but this one doesn't.

Of course part of this frustration has to do with me feeling it's some of their weakest work, and also that 3.5 years after IR we just get an 8 song album.

To be honest I think I might like the song These Are My Twisted Words more than all of TKOL.

edit: also who voted this album to be their 2nd best? I'm really interested to see why or how they think that

damn TKOL, invading on late-January-noob's ability to properly catch up on all their previous work

yeah i understand what you guys mean. but doesn't that indicate that it isn't a good album rather than not an album at all. a good album should feel complete and coherent. and i don't see why the length is such an issue. i have countless very very good albums that are less than 38mins long.

These Are My Twisted Words is probably one of my favourite radiohead songs, its the type of music that i really really love. i think most bands would feel the urge to throw a song of that quality on to their album but radiohead realised that it wouldn't fit with the rest.

i second that

1 to 5 - All those not mentioned below (interchanging due to ultimate awesomeness in full album form)

6 - KOL (awesomeness, but technically only a little longer than half a traditional album)

7 - The Bends (Half an album)

8 - Pablo Honey (A few tracks)

IR is 4 minutes longer than king of limbs!! only 4 freken minutes. is that also a half album?

sorry but all the fuss over the length of it is really annoying me. (thats what she said :p )

True but also it has 10 songs. That makes it feel longer too. I think it's the overall feel of an album too that makes it seem if it's long enough or not. For me it's a combination of the length of the album in runtime and also the amount of songs. Like it's funny but for Beck I often forget that his last album was Modern Guilt. It's not as if I don't like it because I really do but it's so short that it doesn't fully feel like an album. But it's weird because although it's 5 minutes shorter than TKOL I'd consider it more of an album than that.

I guess I feel that 8 songs is way too short for an album. Yes bands like Pink Floyd and Yes released albums that were only 3-5 songs but the songs were so long (often 10-20 mins each) that it felt like an album.

So about a very honourable 4 to 6? :inquisitive: I voted 5 before I worked it out in writing. But then many days I actually like Amnesiac more than Kid A, so... it's all subjective I guess. (Actually I usually shuffle Kid A and Amnesiac together into a single superalbum these days.)

Anyway, I still love it very much and play it frequently.

And is it just me, or is Separator the SINGLE HAPPIEST SONG Thom has ever written? :pleased: It feels like a bright, sunny morning after it's been raining for a week. There's a warm breeze in your hair and sun on your face and it's like for a single shining moment anything is possible. And for once, the lyrics seem to say pretty much the same thing the music is:

"Like I'm falling out of bed from a long and weary dream

Finally I'm free of all the weight I've been carrying"

Can't get enough of that one. :nice:

I don't know yet :bigcry:

:dozey: Don't let them hurry you up, that's the best way to get into one of their albums. Eventually you will wear it out and then start a new one. It's slower, but much more thorough.

But 4 minutes is about how much it's too short by. Even one minute might have been enough. It's like when someone doesn't play the last notes in a tune or say the last bit of a sentence and you're left there hanging, waiting for that tiny little bit more.

They do more with their time on IR. For example there is no random bird noises and notable breaks in the flow that detract away from the music.

The length is short.

personally i don't have an issue with the number of minutes or the number of songs. the downfall for tkol has been the fact that similar sounding albums have been released in the last couple years and they've almost all been far superior to tkol. and also because i'm a fan of their guitar driven stuff far more than the rest.

No, it's not just you. Separator does the same for me, first time I felt that this actually is a very happy Radiohead song.
