Thanks girls :)

I'm heading to sleep but I will update the thread tomorrow to include your contributions. Thank you.

For who wants Arctic Monkeys:

anddd...

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lp1fQ51YZMM]YouTube - Arctic Monkeys - Mardy Bum[/ame]

from the album "Whatever people say i am, that's what I'm not"

Arcade Fire...they have some good songs, but most of their music is pretty bland to me.

Especially if the first song you listen to is Peach Plum Pear. :P

:heart:

DUDE. That was my first song.

I've listened to a few others. Her voice is still annoying as hell to me. :|

YouTube - Arctic Monkeys - Brianstorm (2007)[/url]

It's my favorite songs by Arctic Monkeys and it's from Favourite Worst Nightmare :awesome:

This is the song that got me into Arctic Monkeys. Thank you, "Guitar Hero 5." :wacky:

For who wants Arctic Monkeys:

:heart:

Not into the Beatles , I can help you guys with that ! :awesome:

more for the rock fans

YouTube - The Beatles - Helter Skelter

Youknow, with the Beatles , I could post a shitload of songs ,

but I guess they're just a band that you get into or not ...

You just have to listen a lot , go through their albums and maybe you'll get into it ...

That's how I did it , I put their best albums on my mp3 and just listened ,

without knowing too many songs except for the classics ...

then after just repeating and hearing again ... "it got me"

I also heard a lot of their songs just by being into Oasis ,

and then you hear someone talking about this Beatles song and you search for it ... and so it goes on ..

.... I dunno how to explain ! :p

Btw ; a hard thing with the Beatles is ofcourse that you haven't got live gigs (duuuh :p/:()

but you can't watch a shitload of video's by the Beatles and all the last gigs they did ...

Which you can with more recent groups ...

Maybe that's a little minus to get people into it? :thinking:

Heyyy thank you for the Beatles Stuff:wacko:

I'll make a Beatles Playlist, and also a Dylan one too... just give me some time. I'm not a huge Dylan fan, but I know a good amount of songs I guess.

and thanks in advance Mike...I am looking forward to the playlists:nice:

DUDE. That was my first song.

I've listened to a few others. Her voice is still annoying as hell to me. :|

Have you listened to any songs from her newest album? I think it sounds a bit better than in her older albums, although the vibrato can be a little too much for me sometimes.

Listen to these two, I think they're gorgeous.

alrighty then...

here's some playlists.

This is Bob Dylan. Unfortunately a lot of his songs are not on it, so in addition to the songs I picked other songs that are good or popular include: Simple Twist of Fate, Desolation Row, I Shall Be Free, Tangled Up in Blue, Jokerman, Death of Hattie Carrol, Shelter from the Storm, I Shall Be Released, You're Gonna Make Me Lonesome When You Go, Just Like a Woman, Mr Tamborine Man.

I'm sure there's many more I'm missing. so if you want search on google, but here's the playlist.

If I was to recommend an album by him go for Blood on the Tracks, it's my favorite.

Beatles:

I separated it into 2 parts. First is their biggest hits: http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=CD55B696EC06C540

Next are some deep-cuts, or not as popular songs that I think are great:

http://www.youtube.com/view_play_list?p=5577E1310BC5DC83

U2 and Florence + the machine
I am in no way ashamed to admit my non interest in U2.

I don't like him at all, and his voice makes me cringe :|

Arcade Fire is a band I wish I liked more, but I just don't get most of it, especially the new album. I found it pretty boring. I'm not looking for suggestions cos I have all 3 of their albums and have played them, but apart from Neon Bible, I just don't get what all the fuss is about. :confused:

I am very interessed to hear more of The Coral and The Charlatans ...

If there are some fans here ?

THE CORAL :cheesy: I've heard of them. They are seriously fucking ace. I could write a list of song suggestions as long as your arm :lol:

Dreaming of You or In The Morning or Pass It On are the obvious ones, but please please listen to some of the other stuff first, those are the big hits and they are great, but they have lots of more interesting stuff believe me :)

I'd recommend -

Goodbye (if that riff at the beginning doesn't move you, nothing will ;))

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dswvy6U6gJw]YouTube - The Coral - Goodbye (Live)[/ame]

Something Inside Of Me

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V3brL90sp1k]YouTube - The Coral - Something Inside Of Me[/ame]

or pretty much anything off Roots and Echoes, like Remember Me

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bPNdholUjxE]YouTube - The Coral - Remember Me (Live)[/ame]

or Jacqueline

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S5B7jRKffI8]YouTube - the coral - jaqueline[/ame]

I could do a Coral mixtape or playlist , if you'd like :cool:

I am in no way ashamed to admit my non interest in U2.

Ditto :lol:

REM - i've absolutely loved everything i've heard from them but i've never got around to getting their albums and listening properly

Pavement - from what other people say about them i think i'm really missing out on a great band here

Velvet Underground - hoping to listen to more of their stuff through 2011.

Biffy Clyro anyone?

Have you seen / listened to acoustic versions of their songs already?

I love them so much. :heart:

For example:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Cc-JCy8bkN4]YouTube - Biffy Clyro - How we wrote 'Many of Horror'[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BUZCnjtX-2U]YouTube - Biffy Clyro - Folding Stars Acoustic[/ame]

And then I'd suggest these as a starting point:

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qv_MTiQiVJA]YouTube - Biffy Clyro - Only Revolutions - Bubbles[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SxQmV0Sd6qo]YouTube - Biffy Clyro-Born On A Horse (Album Version)[/ame]

[ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkdJPjNqwq0]YouTube - Biffy Clyro - Machines [New][/ame]

Mainly the last two albums. But that's not really helping, right? :uhoh:

But there are some great ones on the older ones, too.

One more thing to add to the original point that you need to find a starting point to get into an artist / group:

In general (besides the recommendation factor or hearing a track by accident and being surprised who the artist is) the "mere exposure effect" is important for me, too.

I often just burn a CD with songs unknown to me or make a playlist on the mp3 player and let it play at work.

So I'm not actively listening to the music but have it playing in the background.

In most cases songs only start sticking out or become a favourite after a couple of listenings.

Yeah, we got my friend into a few bands by making him mixtapes and he just played them in his car. Today he got into CocoRosie when he listened to a mixtape we had made him 5 years ago that he had forgotten about. He didn't like them when he heard them all that time ago.
