After months of speculation, the wait is finally over - it has been confirmed that Cheryl Cole WILL be appearing as a judge on the U.S. version of The X Factor.

In a statement released today, the British singer is confirmed as a judge on the talent show - joining Simon Cowell and Antonio 'LA' Reid on the judging panel.

Cheryl, 27, has already voiced her excitement about the new role searching for the talent America has to offer and said she is ready to battle it out against Cowell on the first series.

Cole said: 'I’m so excited to be taking part in the American version of The X Factor. I absolutely love it here in the UK, and with the talent they have out in America, I’m sure we’re going to find someone very special.'

She added: 'I can’t wait to get started. I just can’t decide whether I am more excited to find and nurture the talent or for the unbelievable amount of amusement and entertainment I will have watching Simon doing everything and anything he can to beat me.

'He’s tried to beat me for three years in the UK, and hasn’t even come close. His ego must be so bruised. America is gonna love this.'

Cowell, who has championed the Geordie singer in the U.S., said: 'I’m thrilled for Cheryl. She is massively excited about this show, and has been fantastic to work with.'

CHERYL COLE'S UNIVERSAL TRANSLATOR

Here's MailOnline's cut out and keep guide to translations of some of Cheryl's most common phrases...

Moosic is all abeet having fon and enjoying yerself, a bit of leet ennertaynmen and you thorowly britened up me day - Well done, it's nice to see you having fun and I feel much happier after seeing your audition

Part of us was leek wow, and the other half of us wouldn let meself go - I was divided and wasn't sure what to make of your audition

That es an almeety yes from me - It's a 100 per cent yes from me

I cannee work out if yeer doing it for a laff - I'm struggling to find out if you are being serious

You are reet oop me street - I'm a big fan of your audition

You look a beet leek an acshion figure, man - You are very muscly, do you work out?

He added: 'She is also a complete brat! Most importantly, this girl can spot talent.'

Today's announcement ends months of speculation over whether Cole's Newcastle accent would prove problematic for viewers across the pond.

Fox bosses have sung the Parachute singer's praises. Mike Darnell, President of Alternative Entertainment, Fox Broadcasting Company, said: 'She’s an incredibly talented artist and performer, as well as a style icon, and she has that special charisma that draws in fans around the world.

'Cheryl’s charm and chemistry with Simon have been a key part of the overwhelming success of ‘The X Factor’ in the UK, and we can’t wait to welcome her to the U.S. on our air.'

Executive producer Cecile Frot-Coutaz said: 'As a young artist whose talent show discovery led to almost immediate stardom, Cheryl’s career exemplifies the promise of The X Factor.

'Her empathy and passion for identifying and nurturing undiscovered talent has made her a huge hit with British audiences, and I have no doubt America will fall in love with her beauty, her accent and her incredible chemistry with Simon Cowell.'

However, some people have suggested Cheryl's strong Geordie accent will cause problems with US viewers.

After hearing the news today, Piers Morgan offered his help, tweeting: 'Congrats to my friend Cheryl Cole on landing US X Factor judging gig. Am available for elocution lessons whenever you like.'

Cole has proved a skilled judge, winning the UK version of the show twice, first in 2008 with Alexandra Burke and in 2009 with Joe McElderry.

While many were worried about her lack of profile in the U.S. it has also been reported that her song Parachute will be featured on the hit musical show Glee - which has covered hit songs by Rihanna, Madonna and Britney Spears.

The confirmation about her X Factor role comes only days before auditions are held this Sunday, May 8, in specially-built high-definition recording studios in Honolulu, Phoenix, Nashville, Anchorage, Kansas City and Denver.

Auditions will continue in Dallas on May 26.

The U.S. version of The X Factor is set to be the biggest and best yet with the winner scooping a recording contract worth $5 million.

NO WOMAN NATURALLY HAS HAIR THAT LONG

I love what she's wearing in the first pic.

Does that mean she's been added to your "fanciable" list?:P

Not really, I just like what she's wearing and I think she does look pretty there, but no I don't have a crush on her.

Fair enough.

I still don't really see why you take such interest in what famous people I may or may not find attractive:confused:.

This is scary................................

I find it more, just plain odd.

How odd.:P

"Banter" requires 2 people to be involved, otherwise it just looks slightly like harassment and is embarrassing for the person desperately seeking approval.

Interesting theory. However, do you actually have anything to contribute to the topic?:dozey:

I actually hate that they have chosen her as the other Judge.

90% of america has no idea of who Cheryl Cole is. She is a relative flop in the UK already , who , not only sings bad and dances badly , she does not have succsess without the Xfactor help.

WHY SIMON ; WHY ? . I would have preffered Nicki minaj instead :inquisitive: . Im good with L.A Reid and Simon though ..

It's all part of the U.S.-U.K. cultural exchange. America got Simon Cowell, Piers Morgan and Cheryl Cole, and Britain got "The Hoff".:P

Alejolo's post is the first post that's actually "on topic".

Bit weird to ask someone to stay on topic when there actually wasn't even a discussion about it to begin with.

How is she a flop in the UK?

Cheryl obviously isn't the best singer in the world but I like her. Also that 'translator' is a joke, Cheryl Cole isn't difficult to understand.

American's can't understand British accents.

With her geordie accent all the impressionists in America will just make her sound cockney like they do when trying to do a Scouse accent.

I think they'll get used to it very quickly.

You've got a point though. My friend applied for a summer job in a British restaurant at Disney World and she had a phone interview but didn't get through to the second round because 'she doesn't sound British'.

That might be because all Brits have to sound like Hugh Grant, Simon Cowell or Piers Morgan.:dozey:

I'm amazed they can even understand David Beckham!:P

'Cheryl Cole is a delight': Paula Abdul gives her seal of approval to rival X Factor USA judge as auditions begin

It appears that just a day into her new job Cheryl Cole has already impressed her co-judge Paula Abdul on the U.S. X Factor.

The American pop singer told her army of nearly two million Twitter followers that Cole is a ‘delight’ work with – proving that Cole managed to make a strong impression after only one day of filming.

Abdul, 48, posted a picture of herself and Cole to the social networking site and introduced the Parachute singer by saying: ‘Gotta tell you about Cheryl - 'The Fierce' is STRONG w/ this one! :) she's lovely! xoP’

'She's a delight': Cheryl Cole appears to have proved herself to Abdul on the first day. The singer even stood up to LA Reid who admitted to MailOnline he had never heard Cole's music

While fans from the UK were eagerly anticipating how Cole would fare at the first round of auditions yesterday, American headlines largely ignored the Girls Aloud singer, focusing instead on Abdul's last minute-contract negotiations which delayed filming by three hours.

However, Cole understood that she was not the brightest star in the judging line-up, for the moment at least, and introduced herself to the crowd as each judge said a few words before the start of the auditions.

The Geordie singer said: 'You might have to bear with me on the accent,' before adding, a little nervously: 'I hope you are all looking forward to getting to know me.'

And she proved to be a hit with the audience. She was a little mute at first, but it didn't take long for her to warm up.

Who is she again? Cole's fellow judge LA Reid admitted he had never heard her music

At one point she even remonstrated with Reid after he said no to a contestant, persuading him to give her another chance.

There were times when you could see that her distance from Cowell was, perhaps, a little unsettling for her as she shuffled nervously in her seat.

However, a chant of 'we love you Cheryl' from the crowd appeared to give her the assurance she needed.

And Abdul’s seal of approval will no doubt further encourage Cole.

Abdul later tweeted: ‘Lots of you ask "What's it like to work w/ #CherylCole? can you understand her accent?" She's a delight, lovely & sweet. what accent? :)’

New girl on the block: Cole laps up the attention as she arrives for her first day of filming

Earlier in the day Cole had laughed off worries about her accent and told MailOnline: 'I'm hoping people are going to embrace it.

'I'm not worried (about my accent). It's going to be interesting. I hear a lot of accents here too.'

But she conceded: 'I'm sure there will be words or phases where people are like, excuse me?

Asked if she would adjust or change her voice, she replied emphatically: 'Never! I would be crucified where I'm from if I tried to change my accent.'

Cole also gave a hint that she might be planning on staying in the U.S. long-term, saying 'watch this space'.

While she certainly won over her fellow female judge and many American fans, others were left questioning her wardrobe choice on Twitter on her big day.

Cole arrived in an eye-catching pair of purple Diane von Furstenberg trousers and an Oscar de la Renta top, teamed with a turquoise belt.
