June 16, 201115 yr I agree with what most people say about Chris not really being the best lyricist out there, but he's got some gems, some things people have been quoting for years and will continue to chant for years to come. These gems are the things to look for, and I feel there's a few to be seen already - "I'd rather be a comma than a full stop" "Like a river to a raindrop, I lost a friend" .. and the bit about a concrete canvas in Hurts Like Heaven. That being said, I'd give a lot to hear something as good as A Rush of Blood to The Head, Amsterdam, Violet Hill or Cemeteries again.
June 17, 201115 yr a bit off-topic, but i think LP5 is proving to be a bit musically lacking as well. from what i've heard so far, most of the new songs only use the simple chords that are built from within the home key. charlie brown: mostly VI - IV - I - V us against the world: I - V - IV - I what happened to the unique harmonies and modulations that we heard in the first three albums? now that i think about it i didn't hear much of those in VLV either

Simple can be great and complicated can be dreadful all the same. I'd rather have simple beauty and elegance over complex trash and superfluousness any day. If it sounds good what's the difference?

June 19, 201115 yr I think the lyrics Co-Lives with the music [you can see the exchange, the "dialogue" etc.] - in other words - having their own lives. They will live in us as well, as the imprints of different phases/aspects of life.
June 19, 201115 yr ^ Except for the random 30 seconds of silence at the end :P it's not random; it's to hide Til Kingdom Come, though it really doesn't work when you're listening to the song out of the album context. :P Smoke is rising from the houses people burying their dead *I ask somebody what the time is but time doesn't matter to them yet* *People talking without speaking Trying to take what they can get* I ask you if you remember Prospekt, how could I forget? **= bestttt! that song is just so... wonderful... :wacky: the whole EP is wonderful, actually. :P and i really like the lyrics in Now My Feet Won't Touch the Ground, too...
June 19, 201115 yr it's not random; it's to hide Til Kingdom Come, though it really doesn't work when you're listening to the song out of the album context. :P Exactly :P and Prospekt's March = most underrated song ever
June 19, 201115 yr I think Prospekt's March is underrated partly because not so many people know it. It makes me a bit sad when I listen to it.
June 19, 201115 yr Exactly :P and Prospekt's March = most underrated song ever Reign of Love is also rather underrated, and it has such beautiful lyrics, too...
June 19, 201115 yr Reign of Love is also rather underrated, and it has such beautiful lyrics, too... Must . . . not listen . . . to Reign Of Love . . . Nnnoooooo! *eyetwitch*
June 19, 201115 yr in the post etiaw haze i did criticize coldplay for not making better lyrics, and although i think etiaw lyrically is still bad i've been listening more and more to their newer songs and feel i may have jumped the gun. they seem just as good if not better than a lot of the lyrics the band has put out before.

Same here. It seems like it's easier to be down on the Every Teardrop lyrics when all we had was them and not the actual music. Coldplay's awesome music draws the eye away from the lyrics which aren't always incredible.
June 20, 201115 yr Sorry, but the Lyrics of MM, CB, HLH and UATW are as good as the lyrics of Parachutes/AROBTTH, maybe better. What I love is that the lyrics follow a secret plot behind the songs. Exciting to see the development of the subject with regard to the lyrics.
June 23, 201115 yr I thought the new revealed one Moving to Mars has the most mysterious Coding [intentional] in it. If LP5 is a long roll of painting - then each song could mean a sub-composition. The tracklist could be the timeline or clue-line, through which we can see what a story they want to narrate.
