Radiohead

Pssh...Average?

But Kid A is definitely my favourite album. It's weird, dark, haunting, disturbing, happy, realistic, vague and perfect in a completely imperfect way.

I don't get why some people hate it. Like my History 12 teacher. Him and I were talking about Radiohead after I got back to school after the concert, and he went on a rant about how they haven't put out something listenable since OK Computer. Come on buddy. But his favourite band is U2. So that say's something I guess.

  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

Yes, average. Obviously, there are some fantastic tracks.

I absolutely adore Hail To The Thief and In Rainbows, but Kid A is too...different from the rest that I find it overrated.

Not trying to piss anyone off. Just stating my opinion. ;)

Wait there are people who hate Kid A?

Who?

I mean besides my mom or something

I just see Kid A as an abstract attempt to widen their sound, a quite-average one at that.

...says the kid who thinks Mylo Xyloto is Coldplay's best album okie dokie

Holy shit I'm a snob

I'm not the biggest fan of Kid A...I like the songs but In Rainbows has always been far far far superior as an album to any of the others

I think it's too contextual for me, I understand what makes it so great but to me it does just sound pretty dull and hardly electronic at all. I'm sure I'd feel different if I heard it at the time (electronic music was nowhere near new at the time, but you know what i mean...mainstream rock band doing electronic)

also Mylo Xyloto is amazing shut up

I...just don't think Kid A is that incredible. I've always found myself getting tired of Kid A and Amnesiac - after multiple playthroughs - simply because the drastic change from the typical guitar, bass and drums ensemble.

Don't get me wrong, I can totally see its popularity and understand why it is so, but honestly, I just see Kid A as an abstract attempt to widen their sound, a quite-average one at that.

It shouldn't matter that it's a drastic change, the songs are still there.

That's the genius of Radiohead; no matter the album, the production means fuck all.

...also can we stop judging it by its tracks, and start judging it as a whole? You wouldn't judge the Mona Lisa by brushstroke, would you?

When did I ever say MX was their best? X&Y has always been my favorite.

Okay then. As a whole I find it rather boring and drawn-out.

EDIT: I am coming off as a dick, now. Sorry.

Absolutely.

I really like Kid A. Like I said, I'm open to interpretation, and consequently, I'm not alienated, or even intimidated slightly, by their new sound. The lyrics are abstract but simple, and the music is deep, but sometimes dark. I do look into the songs as I can, but I also try to enjoy them.

I think that's why it went to No.1 in the states - a new sound, so completely open to one's own interpretation.

I think each album of Radiohead's is a different state of mind. This one, I believe, is anxious searching.

Oh dear, lol.

It's fine if you don't like Kid A, don't think I'm being one of those people telling you "You have to like it". You don't. But I didn't, and now I do, and you might be one of those people. It's worth hanging in for.

Yes. So?

No one should hate it. Everyone should appreciate it, but not everyone has to enjoy it. :dozey:

Nah I think anyone can hate anything they want

It's not what I tried to imply. Just that it's not an absolute rule to appreciate/love Kid A. Anyone could hate it or not enjoy it. I myself can't really listen to albums as a whole, like in one sit listen to all of Kid A, but I see how can some people not enjoy it and it's alright not to like it.

But clarifying, yes I love Kid A.

I think it's ignorant to not appreciate it, reasonable not to enjoy it, let's put it that way.

That's awfully pretentious of you

I understand! I was rather tired when posting all of those replies, so, the angrier side of me came out. My bad. :)

This guy bought me 'Radiohead Live In Belfort 03'

I'm excited to watch it

That's awfully pretentious of you

In what way? I simply think it's ignorant not to appreciate that it's one of the boldest albums ever recorded.

Same as it's ignorant not to appreciate what The Beatles have done for music, the impact of Nirvana or the quality of some Coldplay material.

I'm not forcing anyone to like Kid A, just think we should all recognise it as a great record.

It's cool, you don't have to apologise.

Who care's if someone doesn't think Kid A is a great record.. It's not everyone's cup of tea.

That's not the point I'm making, or have been making, so I'll just keep quiet about it now.

...

Do you think Radiohead will ever make another album, cos they said they might just release singles. This question HAS been on my mind for some time.
