Yeah, forums are an excuse for people who aren't tough to act tough and say whatever they want. Gets tiring sometimes.

  • Lol I haven't been here in 5 years but I decided to pop my head back in for some nostalgia. Seems like this was my last post so here's an update... I finally saw Radiohead live in Manchester in 2017 a

SO thats your name!

And I'm Briggins bye the way :P

Haha that's not your name, Rolle told me your real name once but i forgot, damn it!

But nice to me ya briggsy :P

Ren, you have probably the coolest name I've heard in a long time haha. I love names... it's a writer thing ;) I had a male character in a story once named Wren, but I actually like yours better :D

I was hoping the post didn't come off too preachy! I've been getting myself back together over the last few months and trying to really stay away from stress in all forms (is that possible for human beings in this century? haha) and can't help but say something sometimes.

And also, a RH related thing- I have listened to Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong about a hundred times today I think... COULD THERE BE A MORE COOL SONG ABOUT HOUSES BEING FIREBOMBED??? haha

edit- Lovely to "meet" you Briggins!

You're a writer? Cool! And thanks! :D Well that's just a short for Renato but it works for me haha :P

Oh i know what you mean, i pretty much come here to relax and escape from real life problems but sometime i see there are more problems here than in real life

Dang, this is creepy! I was just listening this: 0504-Radiohead-Punchdrunk_Lovesick_Singalong_(Live)-iDM.mp3 when i read your post :stunned: and yeah, that song is just greeeeat! :dead:

That is very, very true. I try to keep my own voice online as much as possible, partly because it's always disappointing to finally meet someone and find they are nothing like their persona online.

I think my online persona is similar to my real life one.

I love to make people laugh in real life. And just coming up with creative ideas etc.

And yes, in real life I talk about Radiohead too much haha

WHOA. Really???? No way! Weeeeird. I have never heard the live version, is it good? (Wait, am I asking if a Radiohead song is good? Duh)

The last two lines are my favorite... it's such a kicker song.

Do you happen to be listening to Sail to the Moon now? :laugh3: I love shuffle sometimes :D

*shivers* I love this song too

Ah same here, i'm pretty much a joker 24/7 irl and just the way i'm here. I tried to create an oline persona once and bug people) on the official coldplay board) but i got bored of that after 3 days

I bet i was more addicted to rh than you back in the day briggsy, i even stood up my prom date cos she dissed radiohead, i know, i know

I've never really been able to get into Sail to the Moon.

That would be lovely Ren! I would absolutely love hearing it... and I keep hearing about how Nude evolved... never heard the older version of that either. I love in Nude how when he says "your dirty mind" it totally doesn't sound like those are the words he's saying... 'dirty' sounds like 'detty' HAHA. I love his accent so much. :D

Briggins, I didn't really get into Sail to the Moon at first either and then one night heard it in the dark (sort of accidently, or rather, due to the power of shuffle) and everything was still and dark and the song just filled the space around me. It felt powerful and mournful and beautiful. I loved it after that... but I had the same experience with Exit Music, actually... both of them feel like science-fiction love songs. (That probably doesn't make sense... what I mean to say is, I get the tingly feeling that they're songs from the future, from outer space, from the stars... something about them feels not only timeless but free of even the restraints of our world and sensibilities)

Alright, now I really sound a dingbat. This is what writers are like at night I suppose HAHA

^ haha. I find that Subterranean Homesick Alien sounds very science fictiony. I guess mostly because it is based on a story Thom wrote once. It actually inspired me to write a story. I never finished it. But it was a good creative output for me to unleash my frustration with some people in my life at that time.

Its amazing how dark room+radiohead songs lead to unique experiences. I think a concert with them in complete darkness would be the most moving thing ever.

You got it! I'll upload it right now :P Ahh i know, there are so many nude versions floating around! I was a big fan of the older version and gotta admit i was a bit disappointed when i heard the final in rainbows version but i like it now. I'll try to look for the older versions tomorrow and upload them for you :D

Oh i know what you mean, listening to radiohad in the dark is surreal, especially if you listen the whole Kid A album.. its like getting high but without the drugs  . I still havent seen them live but i'm pretty sure that when i finally see them, it'll be like a spiritual experience :dead:

I agree Briggins... somehow, without all the lights and everything, it could be AMAZING. There is something about listening to it in the dark that really allows you to pay attention the layers and the beauty of all of the instruments, Thom's voice, etc. And I'm glad you understood my space/sci fi comments! They made sense in my head, I promise ;)

Ooooh that is intriguing about you being inspired to write! My favorite music always inspires me to write and different music does different things... Sting's music helps me to construct my words with more poetry, Stevie Nicks with more magic, Radiohead with more experimentation and irony and depth of feeling about darkness and light. It's a cool thing, and music truly is poetry in a third dimensional form.

What kind of writing do you do, Briggins?

And I would love to hear more about the story Thom wrote! I hadn't heard that. I would love to read some of his longer form writing... I imagine it's less structured and orderly than his songwriting and probably quite poetically-mad. If he wrote a novel, it would be weirder than Tim Burton and Neil Gaiman combined!

I'm working on something right now that Radiohead/Thom seems to be inspiring...

I don't really write that much. Just once in a while I'll write a poem or a short story. I blog quite a bit. I guess thats my main creative output online.

Originally called "Uptight," which is how Jonny referred to it in its early staged, the song pays homage to Bob Dylan's "Subterranean Homesick Blues." It deals with alien abduction and stems from two incidents in Thom's life. The first occured at Abingdon School, when he was assigned an essay question that went something like this: "If you were an alien from another planet arriving on Earth, how would you describe what you saw?" The second incident occurred when Thom was driving down a country road and hit a bird (which he believes was a pheasant). He stepped out of the car and at that moment began thinking about alien abduction

@Ren

Yeah, I actualyl really like the 98 version alot. Just the organ at the end and all. All versions are great though.

I know, i love them all from the acoustic solo version of thom to the organ version and the final in rainbows version

Anyway, i'm off guys! See ya tomorrow

i love all the versions as well. i dunno why but whenever i hear the most recent version to me it feels like the band are much older and reflecting on the song. Like a feeling of nostalgia in playing a song that is 10 years old. it's wierd it's like i feel the band feels nostalgic when it's played... i dunno

i still consider Nude to be the In Rainbows song, and the 98 version to be Big Ideas (Don't Get Any) since they're pretty different in sound

Night Ren! I should be going soon myself... but I will probably be up a tiny bit longer... figuring things out with the story I'm working on now ;)

Very cool, Briggins! That is quite an essay question. I love when people are able to take things like that and make them into something... I know when I was in school, I always took those very seriously, while everyone else wanted to just slap down an answer and be done and go off to the next thing haha...

thank you very much my fellow cplayers for that very interesting discussion i really enjoyed reading your thoughts. theres nothing i love more than reading and talking about radiohead. you can only really have those sort of conversations about truly great bands and artist.

And truly great fans :smug:

I still think we all should have a kind of a party where we would listen to our favourite Radiohead album, discuss it and have some fun. :)

^^That sounds like fun!! I've never done anything like that before but it could be fun... like a bookclub but a bit faster and more lively ;) haha

I would attend for sure! :)

^^ When I pop that disc in, it's on a loop, cause I can't just watch it one time! It's like addicting Thom and Jonny and that band! Add this to one of my favorites! :D

Yeah, I watched the Grammy performance probably... eh... ten times hahahaha. It would get near the end and I'd be like, NOOOO!!! haha
