What score will Pitchfork give Coldplay?

Featured Replies

It's no secret, Pitchfork doesn't like Coldplay. Sure they will post all their news and review their albums, but they definitely make more than a few jokes at their expense.

Now the other side of the coin here is that as pretentious as Pitchfork are, they have a pretty big audience and are pretty influential, especially when with the mainstream indie crowd.

So what will they score the album? I feel like they could put out a masterpiece and it will still get a shit rating. You can vote and also write down your exact prediction. Winner gets theoretical cake.

If you just come into this thread and diss pitchfork I will diss you right back.

Maybe they're gonna give them a good rating but still insult and write shit about Coldplay? :awesome:

4.8

Us Coldplay fans are too uncool for Pitchfork.

I just went through and read their reviews for Coldplay....DAMN! So low! Why?!

They don't like them that much. I guess it just doesn't stimulate their reviewers.

...though I really should've picked 4.2 :|

:awesome: I see what you did thar.

Well, if they have a history of giving Coldplay low ratings even for fantastic albums, then I would say that they aren't going to break tradition now.

will you diss me even more if I say that I've only been on that site once, maybe twice

6.8.

Because i know it.

They were generous with Viva La Vida, I expect a fall back to mediocrish. 4.0-5.5 at best.

I just wanted to say there's no hard feelings between me and the fanboys/girls over my comments in my disappointment of the band.

Coldplay are arguably the world's biggest rock band, so according to my indie rock guidebook, I should treat them with smugness and derision.

Well that explains it.

I don't think Pitchfork are influential.

Only to those who don't have half a brain and only listen to music by their word but at the same time have a smug sense of satisfaction about themselves.

Pitchfork are most certainly influential.

When Arcade Fire put out Funeral back in 2004, pitchfork gave it a 9.7. Merge got so many orders for the album in that week of the review that they needed to take it out of print for a little while and restock heavily.

Come on! It wasn't just Pitchfork who outed them. That is a genuinely great album. It's not because Pitchfork said so.

I think pitchfork is a great music source. I like it a lot more than Rolling Stone. Do I think all of their reviews make sense? No... but then again no matter what music website there is there will always be ratings you don't agree with or bands they typically don't like.

Yup. And they also got the whole Odd Future ball rolling too.

It also really helped Broken Social Scene.

""That's when the phone calls started coming in," Drew says. "The next tour we went on, we suddenly found ourselves selling out venues. Everyone was coming up to us, saying, 'We heard about you from Pitchfork.' It basically opened the door for us. It gave us an audience.""

They were the only ones that ripped on The Resistance when it came out.

They were also quite generous with Kanye last year, a huge beacon for his album.

They were willing to give "Helplessness Blues" by Fleet Foxes a 2 (which is BULL, by the way). I honestly wouldn't be surprised if Coldplay got an equally low score.
