What score will Pitchfork give Coldplay?

Featured Replies

They'll give it around a 5.5 purely because they don't like Coldplay. Pitchfork are very childish and it's a shame how some idiots get taken in by them. A lot of good bands have been put down by them purely because they're no indie enough. Ridiculous.

Really the whole concept of a music review is stupid. Music means different things to different people so one reviewer's opinion means nothing. Also, we all know MX is going straight to No. 1 no matter what score Pitchfork gives it

 Well said. I don't go by music reviews when I want to buy something. I go listen to it and make the decision based on whether or not I like it--not a random reviewer that may or may not like the band in question anyway.

I'll go with an average score of 5.1-6.0.Pitchfork are shit.

I'll stick a pitchfork in you where the sun don't shine.

As a news source at least they are pretty on top of things.

They were generous with Viva La Vida, I expect a fall back to mediocrish. 4.0-5.5 at best.

+1

Yeah guys they make fun of Coldplay a lot, but that's also kind of the fun of their whole site. Their news section is top, and some reviews are ok, and then they often just give a rating that's meant to polarize (recent examples: King of Limbs, My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy). It's a show. But that's why I read it. And not to forget, sometimes they discover and hype some real good shit.

Oh. Oops. My bad. I thought I had heard somewhere on the forum that Fleet Foxes got a 2 from somewhere. My mistake. :embarrassed:

That was NME, but they gave them 4 because Robin Pecknold said something bad about them a week before. :shifty:

I'm guessing 3.6

Yeah, they gave it more than a 2!

And yes, it is nice that they crapped on an album like The Resistance and didn't just say nice things about it because others were.

The Resistance is a terrible album.

:blank: They gave Viva la Vida a higher rating than A Rush of Blood to the Head....

AROBTTH > VLV

That is because, artistically speaking, Viva la Vida is a far stronger effort than A Rush of Blood to the Head. I would agree with Pitchfork's rankings of the albums if you added 2.0 to every score.

ahmen!

The first 3 albums scored in the 5.0 range and yet Viva la Vida somehow got a 6.9 or something, so Pitchfork clearly has their heads screwed on backwards when it comes to Coldplay. Judging by the crap we've heard so far from the album, I'd say it will almost be worthy of Pitchfork's Best New Music stamp, but not quite. They'll give it a 7.8 so it can still be below The King of Limbs.

If the new stuff is crap then the likes of Florence and the Machine in your sig and The Resistance is the arse spraying mayhem that is diarrhoea.

How the hell would we know? We haven't even heard the album ourselves. Let's wait and find out, then we'll be happy if it gets a rating we think it deserves, or we won't give a fuck if it doesn't please us.

Yep, their news coverage is some of the best around. I just can't take the majority of their reviews seriously. It seems to me that they're more interested in page views than giving honest reviews. Controversial reviews are just another trick to rake in the page views.

For the record, when I look at reviews for albums I'm considering getting Pitchfork is one of those that mean the most. Even if they hate it.

i personally hate Pitchfork

but my score-3.5

But I wonder what Rolling Stones will give it? if the album is BEYOND great it'll be a 3 and 1/4

since they gave Lady Gaga's new album a 4 out of 5, and the album was ungodly bad

and Fleet Foxes 2nd album shouldnt of gotten that high of a score, same for Kayne West -.-

pitch fork - is that a tuning fork, a dining fork, a hay fork, or a manure fork? :laugh3: Critics can criticize all they want, let's see any one of them make real good music for a change!:P

It's a speculative thread, duh. Of course none of us know. You should go to all the threads in this section of the forum and just say "How the hell would we know?"

When you make a prediction, you make a prediction about the unknown.

VLV > AROBTTH

Haha ;)

No. :|

^ They're like two completely different entities. I don't think there can be any comparison. AROBTTH was completely stripped-down, cathartic and visceral. VLV was creative, artistic, and based on a theme.

The theme? Well... I liked it :P

Don't get me wrong, their old stuff was great and I loved it (admittedly more than VLV), but I'm extremely happy they're looking for ways to evolve. The fifth album is only the second album after the trilogy, there could definitely be more to this 'new' Coldplay than we like to think. I think it's perfectly normal for an old(er) fan to be skeptical about the direction a band is going, but I guess I just don't care because I absolutely loved Viva! I sure do hope that doesn't start an argument...
