Yes, but only because fans of the recent songs keep creating new threads to voice their support.

I think it went and goes both ways :) Yesterday negative threads cropped up aplenty, today positive threads are popping up. I guess we are reaching a sort of balance :)

I am a die-hard fan of MX and its controversial songs (ETIAW and Paradise)

have you already listened the album ?

have you already listened the album ?

We nearly heard half of it and I am liking all I hear and see so far. With this in mind, I highly doubt the remaining half will disappoint me, but of course one never knows, but I have had and still have a great feeling about this :)

Here's another opinion...

Alright so here's my opinion, just for the sake of discussion:

Upon first listening to Paradise, i was really unsure of the direction they were taking. But after a couple of listens, it's so clear that the old Coldplay is still there, beneath the synthesizers and what some of you call overproduction. And I like the new direction. ETIAW and Paradise are fantastic songs that will have everyone singing along when they go on tour.

Let's not forget that songs like Us Against The World sound like they're fantastic little things that Coldplay could have created back when they made Parachutes, it sounds almost like it should have been on that album. And then Charlie brown sounds like something Chris could've come up with in between X&Y and Viva La Vida a few years ago, it's right in the middle of it. That's why I personally love this band, they make bold moves into the unknown, but they always have something for the fans of the older sound (MTM, UATW,etc.), AND the newer sound.

Honestly, if this was the Parachutes era and we were waiting for AROBTTH, and we heard Politik as a single, I think some of us would have been very disappointed with the new, louder direction. Coldplay's not a singles band, so don't approach them as if they were.

To summarize: let's wait until the album comes out (because it IS supposed to be a concept album) and reserve judgement until then. But I, for one, having heard all the songs from the festivals plus the new singles, am very much looking forward to October 24th :)

^ Yes I agree. I posted something similar when I said MX will have something to offer for everyone I think.

ETIAW and Paradise are fantastic songs that will have everyone singing along when they go on tour.

even britney spears's songs are great sing-alongs...this has nothing to do with the quality of the music.

can you explain me where's the experimentation in songs like paradise and etiaw ?

to me is the proof that chris is no more able to write good songs, the "they have only been experimenting" is just an excuse.

To me they are experimenting because they are doing stuff they haven't before. They're not being redundant like someone said these hate threads are (which is true) and I'm sure Chris can write a good song. I love MX's heard material and you haven't heard all of it, so just wait. I will let you be pissed when you hear a shitty album, which will be suprising if you do.

even britney spears's songs are great sing-alongs...this has nothing to do with the quality of the music.

But for me it's not just about quality, it's about how you feel when you listen to the music. I mean Paradise came out yesterday and i've played and sung along with it so many times now it's just a fun song to listen to and sing. So what if the lyrics aren't as good as UATW or See You Soon (arguably), Paradise as a song still makes me happy, and that's why I'm gonna listen to it many more times :)

Also, what's with all the hate on the 'Every tear a waterfall' line? I love self-references, I don't understand why people are hating on it so much?

and that dreadful Ke$ha too..

Umm... because it's a terrible metaphor. This has nothing to do with "new Coldplay" vs "old Coldplay" - it's objectively bad songwriting (reminds me of girls in high school trying to write "deep" poetry and developing similar metaphors :dozey:)

Its fair enough to have high standards BUT what you got to realise is that you have only heard 3 studio versions of their album! and if ur basing everything on that, then its abit stupid!

i absolutely hate Rihanna but im not going to diss the song as i have not heard it! i also think that their are another 10 songs on their three of which we have heard (HLH, CB and UATW) and they are bloody awesome! so they are 3 songs that are good compared to the 1 song you hate, yet everyone seems to be judging the whole album based on one (or two if you include ETIAW) rather then the other songs we have heard

Never have I attempted to say MX was going to be a terrible album or anything of that nature. I have limited my opinion to the singles ETIAW + Paradise and those songs alone. As I've stated over and over, I will reserve judgment on the entire album once I hear it (This includes the collaboration with Rihanna).

In fact, I don't think anyone has attempted to say the upcoming album is going to be bad. People have just been expressing disappointment and unfortunately, some posters have been equating this with "judging the whole album." As I've tried to make clear over and over, criticism does not equal "hate."

sorry i do kind of use the word hate very loosely, but i do get what you mean! but have i have based what i said on what i have read so far! im sure there are many coldplayers who like it! just soo many posts and theards since yday its hard to read what everyone is going on about

I too normally just browse as don't like getting involved. This post is however utterly fantastic and could not agree with it more. Horrible to see all the bickering. What is wrong with Coldplay doing a couple of pop songs (ie popular music). They were always going to release a couple of pop sings as singles!! In my opinion the album is not out yes so just hold on to any disappointment u might harbour at the moment. I personally feel HLH,CB,UATW,MM give me so much optimism because these songs are just a few of the best tracks I have ever heard. Good luck with new album Coldplay. Who gives a fuck what NME think anyway and please can a lot if you just CHILL!!!!!!

It's threads like this that make me question humanity.

Do you like this better? Every siren is a symphony? Cuz it´s the same thing :)

no,every siren is a symphony is DEFINITELY the worse lyric.

I totally respect opinions, but I am curious as to why people dislike this. Sure it is so simple and it´s no poetry but it does convey a picture of turning something negative into something even joyful. Chris has never been a grand lyricist, but he has a straight-forwardness that I do like.

And by the way, no love for "I´d rather be a comma than a full stop" or "Maybe I am in the gap between the two trapezes". I think those are quite elegant :)

Rihanna may surprise us and it is only one song guys. Its not as if she is on every track. C'mon!!!!

Oracle said it didn't sound the same without her!!!

ah, ORACLE

DISCLAIMER : [/color]I originally posted this on the Paradise part of the forums since all the recent senseless bashing has been their, but I feel its more appropriate here.

I understand at this point it is quite impossible to persuade anyone, but i've literally had to log into this account (which I rarely log into and made quite some time ago, usually browse the forums as a guest) to post because I would have been anxious all day.

Been a literal massive fan of this band for years now, been to multiple shows as have alot of you.

The people who are complaining to no end about the direction of MX need to stop acting like such pretentious assholes who swear they're these mega fans that have been listening to Coldplay "before they decided to go mainstream and put Rihanna on a record"

First things first, Coldplay has been a massive mainstream success since Yellow came out, if they never put that song out, this forum would not exist.

At this point in time the band is even more massive, when they first started out 10 years ago their sound was very stripped down, because they were a brand new band and didn't have the resources like they do now. This is quite obvious if you look at the lineage of the band and the albums. The sound CLEARLY matures. Parachutes was super stripped down, AROBTTH was definitely a louder album with them showing more tricks off, X&Y was the first time they really started experimenting with synth and such, and Viva la Vida was as close to a stadium rock / pop album as they had gotten to at that point.

For those wishing they would go back to the "good ole days" the "Parachutes / AROBTTH days" your dreaming. Thank god they aren't. The albums were fantastic, some of my favorites and the content was clearly from a group of young kids who hadn't figured much of the world out yet and had nothing lose. I do NOT want a couple of 33 year old millionaires married to Gwyneth Paltrow writing a Parachutes. And for those who cry "no we dont wan't that, we just dont like this!" your either lying, or not giving them a chance.

The path they are taking is no mistake, they are trying to adapt to a larger audience, one day this band is going to be performing mega stadium concerts and they need the ammo. For crying out loud U2 is one of Chris Martins main influence and look at the path that band has taken, so why does this surprise you?

A good amount of you will say then that they aren't making music for the real fans or the old fans anymore then, these are a bunch of grown men with a job, with a different life then they had when they wrote every other album, every album evolves and keeps up with them, accept it. If you don't like the, feel free not to listen, you wont be alone.

Congratulations to the boys on finishing the album, i'm more then excited to see what they have came up with this time!

P.S. I'm not to fond of Rihanna being on a Coldplay album either, but like I said, they have the resources to do so now and it will DEFINITELY open them up to a wider audience which is great for them, maybe not for you because it makes you feel like they're alienating you the real coldplay fan but your really no more then the average fan who believes they were put on this earth to cater directly to you and to be secret favorite band, and your personal identity instead of their own

GOD HELP US FROM THE END OF THE MUSIC IDUSTRY.

Since people can download tracks for free.Bands are like "Why bother doing our best to make an artistic album, they will download it for free and we will miss much money because of that.So we are going the mainstream way"

That's All.

that's just a bad excuse

Rihanna has a good enough voice. She didn't write it Chris did so I think this is all being taken out of proportion.
