I'm not sure if it was after 5 or 6 albums. I think it may be six but I can't be sure!!

They might be able to count Prospekt's March, or bring out a Greatest Hits.

They signed with EMI for 5 albums. So the contract is now over.

When can Coldplay leave EMI? Is it after this album?

After this one.

I think they signed with Universal for works after this one. Which, arguably, would suit them better.

Not only that, but the first four songs on the album are in relative key. So they probably all flow.

This. It stops at UATW, which is in the key of C. I think it'll turn out really well, the beginning half of the album. :)

Bb and G minor are called "relative" keys because the notes that are in a Bb are the same as the ones in G minor. The other answers in this thread are pretty solid though.

I actually like Paradise. Not so much the lyrics but the music I do like. It'd be great if it merged from HLH.

uummm... no. the song is shit.

Well that's it then, there's no chance of conceptual brilliance, storytelling or even the songs being in similar keys if the song's shit. Thanks for that bollock-blowingly brilliant contribution.

phah?! you are being ridiculous now, excuse me.

i am a musician myself and i honestly believe that just because a song is next to a song that is in similar keys does not make the song any better. the song for itself. you guys must be joking, right? i mean, the song as A PIECE , individually is what matters. it's like i hear a shit song between two great songs and say hey this song is great. we are discussing PARADISE , the SONG, not MYLO XYLOTO , "the brilliant conceptual album".

Being a musician doesn't make an opinion more valid. It is just that an opinion.

I know nothing about music labels, why would universal suit them better? I'm interested!

I'm also curious about your reasoning. If anything, I would think Universal is worse....

I like it better live. How about a live release.:drummer:

contrary to what the previous people said, also clearly being involved in music?

I write music myself, I'm aware of these things, thanks.

You might have noticed though I talked not the song up, but the album. Or perhaps you'd prefer if I sang it to you, given how gifted a musician you are?

^whatever mrkjhnwht... obviously you started all of this so that you could brag about your musicianship. cuz otherwise, this makes no sense at all.

when, exactly did I say that my opinion is more valid? it is my opinion that the song is shit, and it is my opinion that just because it is between two songs that are in similar key and flow in the album does not make the song itself any better. is that clear to everybody or do i have to fucking draw here?

Ehm, no not really. A shit song is a shit song.

I don't think it stops with UATW. Doesn't the outro to Charlie Brown end on a low C? (That's not rhetorical, I actually can't tell)

Yeah I'm so bragging here. You're the one that brought up being a musician, I merely counteracted it by saying that I was one too.

All I was trying to say in the first place was that regardless of whether the song is good or not, the concept behind the relative key thing is clever. If you don't like the song, fine, but it doesn't affect the concept.

My opinion is ----- sometimes, music does rely on its context.

For example, a four-movements symphony. maybe the climax only comes at the fourth, it doesn't mean the preceding three is meaningless. their job is to pave the road, build the breath for the final eruption.

So, if Paradise is road-paver, or one chapter of the whole story, then we can't judge it is shit or not before we get a look at the whole story.

After all, there is not only one way to judge music musically. Right?

Right. Albums like Dark Side of the Moon, Kid A and even Viva La Vida should be judged on the concept, in my opinion.

But hey, if some don't agree, that's up to them.

Completely agree that some songs fit better within the context of an album.... but that also doesn't make it a great song. You mentioned Kid A: Treefingers absolutely fits in the context of the album, coming directly after the emotional climax of How to Disappear Completely. But does that make Treefingers a great song? No.
