Thanks everyone for your kind words, they make me feel a bit better. I just came back from the police station.

Oh God! I'm so sorry for you but glad that you are ok. Here in Argentina it is the same. I was never been robbed (maybe because I lived so many years in Europe) but all my family members have suffered the insecurity, even with a gun in the middle of the day. A hope you don't have to suffer this again. Be careful.

Yeah, the same happened in my family. My mother and my brother got robbed and my grandfather was shot when some motherfuckers stole his car. Luckily the bullet grazed his head and nothing happened, a few milimetres to the left and the story would have been completely different. I hate the insecurity we have to live with. I will take care next time.

Oh juanif that is a nasty experience. Thank god you are ok. It can really bring you down and make you feel very insecure but stay strong and over time you will start to feel fine again. Stay safe and stay cool. ;)

Also juanif you did the right thing in that situation by just giving them what they wanted. For sure it sounds so defeatist (and I hate defeatism) but it's not defeatist when it's potentially your life at stake. It's the other way round. When someone comes up to mug you just give them what they want. Don't bother fighting it. You don't know what they may be wielding.

Thanks for your words! you always have the right point to see things clearly :) It's really hard to give away your belongings but when your life is in danger it doesn't matter at all. I'm happy that this was just an ugly experience and i'm allowed to tell it.

Goodness gracious! That's awful! I'm glad to hear you and your friends are okay. But still....I can't imagine being in a situation like that.

Holy shit! I hope you and your friends are ok and the lil fuckers go to hell!

Damn :wreck: surely you thought about carrying a gun or switchblade on you now

But whats a few dollars compared to your life, glad your ok :nice:

:shocked2: Oh wow, that's horrible! I'm glad you're okay! And it's sad that this type of thing has happened to you before (even though this time was worse).

Maybe you could come to DC a little early...

Oh my god, that's terrible! Glad you are all okay!!!

Damn :wreck: surely you thought about carrying a gun or switchblade on you now

Yeah if you're thinking about committing murder and going to jail for possibly decades because you killed some scumbag who was robbing you.

Good to know you're fine.

A friend of mine got robbed too, he was in his car in a stop light and a guy put a gun in his window and asked him to open the doors for him, my friend freaked out and unlocked the doors, so another guy got in the passenger seat and both of them had guns, luckily they just took his Blackberry, wallet and watch.

It's incredible just about how dangerous the streets are lately.

Btw you should try to keep some sort of weapon with you not to hurt people but for security at times like this... maybe pepper spray or a tazer!

Not the best piece of advise, to be honest. People are most likely to get killed if thieves even think you're carring a gun or any kind of weapon with you, I'm saying this because that's what I've seen happening in the news.

True but atleast if she kept something with her maybe shell feel a little more secure. just try to be more careful and always stay with someone when your out and about at night. or stay by populated places maybe like a club or something where your not alone and just wait there to be picked up or get a ride by a taxi! i still hope the best for you and i know itll all be ok :) stay strong!

Nope.

Never give someone advice to carry a weapon ever again. Seriously. That's awful, awful advice.

The police don't give a shit if you have it for "security" or "self defense". Even if you are being robbed or assaulted, and you bring out a weapon and do damage to the attacker - you are incredibly likely to be in serious legal trouble. Trust me.

You'll get in more trouble for knifing a thief than the thief will for threatening you and robbing you.

Don't carry weapons. It doesn't help. Especially if you don't have any training (which the thread starter doesn't). You'll either end up dead or in prison.

Alright im sorry :/ just i dont know if your from america but in america most woman atleast have a pepper spray with them. it may be different in different countrys

I didnt mean to insult you if i did or offend anyone. But its true if you are ever to get robbed give them what they want and leave them be. dont fight it because you could get hurt. i shouldve thought before i commented i truly apologize

It's cool :)

You do have a point. In many parts of the USA the police are very leniant with civilians carrying weapons, and you can actually get away with self defense very easily.

But many places you don't, so we have to make sure we understand the legal system of the person's country before giving out advice that is as serious as carrying weapons.

Yup, and like in the Netherlands it is not even allowed to carry pepperspray with you.

Carrying a weapon with you for feeling more secure is very dangerous. It is just this that might make it easier for you to react defensive when you should just surrender and let them get what they want. Things get ugly when you come up with a weapon, this might be when the knifeholder stabs. I think it's better not to carry a weapon so there's less chance they'd hurt you.

Sorry for the topic starter though that it all turned out so nasty. D*mn robbers. The worst thing is not even that they take your personal belongings, it is the impression/mark the whole thing leaves on you. The experience sounds just horrible. - but maybe I am wrong because I never experienced it myself, but a near rape case and violation have been mine and I know that I didn't care for the physical hurt, it was the mind that hurt the most. You feel insecure, not safe, let down. Your dignity gets a blow, a serious blow.

It's cool :)

true well i learn something new everyday! and i will make sure i dont make this mistake again

Thanks for your comments everyone! I'm much better now, but i'm still quite shocked.

About carrying a weapon, I don't think that's the solution really. I think it is better to give them what they want and pray they don't do anything to you because if you show them that you have a gun or a knife then they'll get more nervous and they'll do anything to disarm you. Besides, there were like 5 of them and I don't really know if they all had knifes or guns.

I was talking to one of my friends that were with me and he told me that he and my other friend saw they guys coming and they started running, but when they realised that I was left alone with the guys he stopped and the other one ran for help. He was told by one of them that if he didn't give them what they want they would hurt me. Then he gave them the money and the cellphone. I didn't know that part of the story until he told me this today so now I realise they could have really hurted me. This really sucks.

So I was getting out of a dance club with 2 friends of mine, it was like 6:00 am (9 hours ago) and we were walking in the street when 4 or 5 guys came running after us and one of them grabbed me and my reaction was to punch him in the face. Fatal error. He took out his knife and tried to stab me with it, so I took his hand to try to keep away the knife and then he told me to give him everything I got. At that moment one of my friends was able to escape and he ran for help. My other friend was beside me fighting with a guy who apparently didn't have a knife but his cellphone and money got stolen anyway.

The worst moment was when I gave everything to the fucker who tried to stab me with the fucking knife and he asked me to give him MORE. I didn't have more money and he had already taken my cellphone so I got really nervous, I really thought he was going to kill me. The guy was shouting "GIVE ME EVERYTHING OR I'LL KILL YOU IN FRONT OF YOUR FRIENDS". So he tried to stab me one more time and then he told me to give him my shoes. So I did. At that moment my friend who ran for help came running with a security guard and the thieves ran away. I really don't know what would have happened if my friend had not ran for help. I don't want to think about it. It makes me shiver.

Luckily, a taxi was there and the taxi driver drove us home for free. Nice guy. When we told him what had happened he got really angry.

My hand now is full of wounds because of trying to keep the knife out of the way. But luckily nothing happened to the three of us, we are all well and safe. But i'm stiil VERY shocked and just wanted to let off steam.

The worst thing is that these motherfu***** are drugadicts and they were clearly high when they stole us. So it's impossible to know how they're going to react. Things like this happens every day here and many times they end up killing someone. This country is shit. Sorry for this thread, I just wanted to express my feelings.

I know how it feels to be robbed as it's happened to me. This was in the hotel dining room on our 2nd day in London during our 6 week trip overseas. I lost my backpack which contained my cash, cellphone, glasses, passport and camera. I haven't been able to replace the cash, but everything else has been replaced.
