«Drink, drugs - we've been there»

Featured Replies

oldplay are known for their clean-cut image and teetotal singer Chris Martin, but he admits the four-strong band has struggled with alcohol and drug issues.

Martin, 34, said: "Success and fame, alcohol and drugs. We've been through all of those things.

"They're just pitfalls, and that comes from a lot of travelling and a lot of down time. " He told Absolute Radio breakfast show that the band - who have just released fifth album Mylo Xyloto - rely on each other to get through loneliness on tour, adding: "We split our songwriting credits and everything we get, we split it equally. It means when one of us is having a hard time or a problem, then we all have the best interests of each other at heart."

He said the best thing about his marriage to actress Gwyneth Paltrow, with whom he has two children, is "coming home to an Oscar winner" adding: "It's not all bad. As you get older, you have kids, but there is also a lot more sadness.

So maybe the contrast makes the happy times more so.

"Our music is reflecting that."

Oh, well - if it's only this... I thought it was like ... hard drugs

Its sad knowing my heros and the people i look up to get dragged into the whole drug thing... :( im really disappointed

I think that was just a joke ;)

But still he was much more serious later. Timing is interesting here, why are they revealing all this now and not sooner, or later? Because I think drugs are behind them (or him if it's just Guy) now.

Tell that to me at 6am in the mornings! I need my tea..

well a soft drug can lead intro doing harder ones.

if is true i feel a bit dissappointed, although i'm not surprised, but one must be very weak to do whatever their hero do just because the hero does it, even if is a mistake, you know.

He say -Natural herbal product- this is maybe tea : )

yeah, tell that to the stupids that died this summer in my country because they drunk some natural herbal stuff which in bad dose is pure poison for the body, and i meant natural, as grass that grows itself in the countryside.

Tea isnt a drug...

as the teacher with whom i did a herbal course about health and dangerous plants said, chickpeas aren't grown to kill people but if you drop one from a high building if it hits a pedestrian he'll surely die.

I don't think it's a big deal at all.

But didn't they say that the 'drugs' are all behind them now?

They don't do drugs. That to me is quite obvious through there personalitys. Chris is always joking about that kind of stuff.:)

I don't know, like someone said before, when Colbert asked Chris if he was high, he said 17% high. Normally, I would not do a big deal with this, because he's always joking. But these days, he always seems to say they broke the no-drugs rule, and this Taratata interview too... What the ef?! I'm starting to think he's serious.

You never know with Chris...

I mean, it's their lives, they do whatever they want, they're grown ups. But that would just suck ... Drugs are sh*t... And it will eventually be super bad for you. I agree with what everyone said. When your role models do drugs ; it's disappointing.

Where/When ?

And I think Chris wasn't the one who did the drugs or drinking. He's too clean and honest about it. Plus the jokes on the Colbert Report were clearly jokes. People think it's Chris because he's soo happy and playful. Maybe it was someone else?

Um.. just about everyone has smoked weed at some point in their lives. It's not that serious. I doubt they're drug addicts, lol.

Many of us listened to that Absolute Radio interview and can make up our own minds. We don't need some reporter's interpretation. Chris speaks for the whole band, so he uses a collective "we". That doesn't mean that everyone in the band abused alcohol and drugs. Also they're pointing to the X&Y era, so it's not an ongoing thing. Guy said he was the worst but it is behind them now. I don't know why people are making such a big deal about this.

I read it from somewhere that he tried it but he doesn't like it, so he doesn't do drugs anymore.

Don't worry guys, Chirs is kind of person who know what is good and what is bad. And I think it's not that big issue if he just tried it just once or twice. And he said all of those are behind them now.

Yeah that's what I thought, weed is not a ''big deal''.
