OT, but is your avatar a Dyna Moe thing?

^ What's that?

^ What's that?

She's an artist whose work looks a lot like your Avatar. She's done a lot of Promo art for Mad Men among other things.

Oh. Well I made mine on http://www.madmenyourself.com So, since my Avatar is me in Mad Men form, it must indirectly have to do with her.

Though I was unaware of her due to my ignorance.

I THINK SHEZ A SELLOUT FOR DOING MAD MEN ARTWORK INSTEAD OF BEING A STARVING ARTIST

U2 are very much still a rock n roll band though! More so than coldplay

A question, How many of you are pop fans and how many are rock fans?!

How do you define rock and how pop? And what’s the clearcut difference? If people have another perception of these terms than you, then the answer wouldn’t quite satisfy you I think.

I like to say I am more a rock fan than a pop fan, but that’s mostly because my favorite bands are indie bands that like to play around with music. But I guess that they might be seen as pop too as soon as they would become more popular.

You quoted my question On another note, how can you say U2 is not pop? Do you distinguish them from Coldplay solely for Coldplay playing at X-factor and U2 hasn’t (yet)? If not, what is it that makes Coldplay Pop and U2 not? before saying the above. So I am wondering if with this you tried to answer my question? If so, I don’t think that’s really answering my question, because I still don’t know why U2 would not be pop if they are a rock and roll band. The two do not exclude eachother in my opinion. I also wanted to know what according to you makes Coldplay pop and U2 not, if it's not solely their performance on X-factor. What makes something pop? Why is U2 more rock and roll than Coldplay? I was hoping to see reasons such as U2 writes their own music or U2 has incredible and sick variations in meters/rythm eg. f*ck that 4/4 of standaard pop, each instrument plays its own meter. (not saying here these would be right reasons to make that difference, but it seems to have more depth than just stating “U2 is more rock and roll”)

So, maybe it gets easier to understand each other if we try to define pop and not-pop, because it seems people have different definitions for them. Genre's are never so clearcut/obvious as we like them to be. And pop and rock might be the worst of them all, because these are often used to embrace several genres as long as the music is liked by the masses or includes a guitar. So rock can be pop and otherwise?

With Rock and Roll you mean Rock I assume? As in band plays with guitar and stuff (bass, drumkit and whatever more) and usually 4/4 meter and a focus on live performance rather than CD or playback show? When is rock not pop? When it’s not popular? When a band cares more about making money than making music?

it is a good topic that are bands that make music for fame and money and ultimately not very qualities of musics

I don't see how the two are always mutually exclusive. John Lennon was always quite open about the fact that he enjoyed the wealth his music brought him, yet he still made some of the best music ever.

The fact that the news dude felt compelled to write an article explaining his thoughts on the situation is actually more cringeworthy to me than the actual decision of going on Xfactor

I was talking about bands no singers. but hey it's like is famous people.

and John Lennon and his wife Yoko Ono famous people celebrity characters and I do not know if they wanted the fame and make money with their musics. their musics was their business and it was reality TV before its time.

but they made good music for the people .

What I meant to say was that the Beatles are widely regarded as the finest musical act of the rock and roll era, yet all the members (with the possible exception of George) have said that the primary goal of the band (especially in the earlier days) was to be as popular as possible and sell as much music as they could. I believe John's exact quote was something along the lines of telling Paul "let's write ourselves a swimming pool". No matter how pure of motive you are, there's an undeniable appeal to making tons of cash doing what you love.

Wow long read that lol

U2 just sound more of a rock band, Most of Coldplay's newer stuff has alot of pop sound in it

Nothing to do with how popular each band is

Chris Martin loves Rihanna, deal with it or die. :phu:

guys just love coldplay for who they are :)

I still say U2 has experimented with incorporating pop (especially dance/euro pop) into their sound more than Coldplay ever has. A ton of their 90's work was very heavily influenced by dance pop and club music. Their last album had a collaboration with Will.I.Am even, and that particular song when played live was performed in an even more pop style than it's original.

Bono ruined all that had gone before by turning up on stage looking like the Terminator! :borg:

Rihanna did not like this kind of show that is why it has turned into little schoolgirl who must learn to X factor and footwear that expresses its disgust for such resignation.

more costume? its origin is African and Irish. they are super stupid medias

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/culture/tvandradio/x-factor/8903314/Rihannas-explicit-X-Factor-message.html

Coldplay you think was really in the show?

no interaction in public.

yes I even think it's to support Rihanna. Coldplay she was in X factor and no fun for her.

Which outlandish Bono stage persona are you referring to? I can't for the life of me think of one which reminds me of the terminator.
