You Know What I Don't Understand?

A lot of "fans" of Coldplay are not "fans" cause they're music taste changed.

i don't get it??

if u love a band wouldn't you want the band to be successful and prospering?

Or is it just me??

I personally still love Coldplay, but some people like their older albums more and don't like ho much they've changed just from VLVODAAHF and MX. Well that's my guess

Well, people evolve and often their tastes evolve as well. It's not just music, it can even be food, you know

For instance, my sister used to be a fan of a french popstar, then she got more into r'n'b and rap or something, and then she got more into rock, and now I don't really know what she's into :uhoh:

Personally my tastes in music have changed too, but now I think I finally built myself my little music universe, you know, now that I've experienced a bit more music, I know what I like & what I don't. I love Coldplay so much, and I feel it will never go away, but I'm a pretty recent fan (even though I've always felt some sort of connection to their music). I think that if you really have that connection, then maybe the fan-ness will never go away.

But I'm a pretty recent fan, so I can't really tell, and right now, I'm just enjoying the moment :)

EDIT: As for the Coldplay change, I think that's another debate, so which debate are we on ?

I DON'T KNOW EITHER

I agree with that ! But I guess, if people have developed other music tastes and have real personal reasons to stop liking Coldplay, it's their choice.

I personally think that I'm always going to support them as long as they are themselves and do music that is proper to their style. As long as Coldplay is Coldplay, it's always going to be good for me. ;)

If you talk about how Coldplay changed and people dislike it, well, yeah, I have a bit of a problem with that, but it depends on the reasons: I mean I really hate when people say they don't like them anymore because they've become too "mainstream" or something. That's a stupid reason, and so in that case I totally agree with you.

Some people just don't like the direction they've taken, musically speaking. I can understand if it's about their taste in music, I mean you can love what you want. But I think they haven't changed that much, when you listen to one of their recent songs, it's still Coldplay. Yesterday my sister told me that she heard PoC like a hundred times on radio, and that she still thinks all Coldplay songs sound the same  Can you imagine, even PoC ?! So I think they haven't changed that much after all :laugh3:

And yes, it's not because you don't like one album that you should totally give up on them. Because it doesn't change what they've done in the past. You may hate MX, but if AROBTTH means that much to you, I can't understand why you would stop listening to it because you don't like MX :freak: It makes no sense: what people mean actually is probably that they don't feel like following what comes next, because they don't like the direction they've taken, as I said.

Anyway, it's their loss.

Of course, it's their loss, cause none of us can tell what is happening next. They've personnally surprised me with their different directions. And I love all their albums so much, and what made me think that Coldplay haven't changed too much are two songs: U.F.O. and Moving To Mars. I think they stay true to themselves. And I'm pretty excited to know what's coming next. I personally don't really understand people who just stop liking Coldplay, because they don't like what is going to come next --> they don't know what's coming next !!!

But everyone has the right to change their taste, though :)

Yep. I have to agree with you. and you know how radio's overplay songs until they get really annoying? well, they play PoC ALOT but it never gets old! :P

And i don't see a huge change in them either. its not like they went from Indie to Rap ( HAHA IMAGINE THAT :awesome:) Don't get me wrong, i love Coldplay no matter what but, i see alot of peole like that on the Internet and im just 'why??'

Agreed.

To me the only ones that show a drastic change are the singles, HLH, and DLIBYH. That's only 6/14

I'm not against success. I think Coldplay deserve no less than every single person who has some connection to their songs, to whom their music is meaningful in some way.

I'm also not against changing their "music style" (whatever that means) as long as it is needed to express something in their songs. What I'm talking about is people doing whatever is selling a lot or topping the charts. In my view, this doesn't apply to Coldplay.

What I'm not 100% pleased with is that sometimes I feel Coldplay are heading for 'big' rather than 'great'.

Understandable. yea, that makes sense

my sister is more r'n'b and rap in ado and now but rebellious drug addict in the past but like the others kind musics because adored Nirvana but in young loved heavy metal (she wanted to marry Kurt Cobain being young attachment but I do not know because my sister is 20 February )

my sister with luxurious taste of luxury living in a world of luxury she chose to live next to a casino where people rich and the famous main square happening all the time known worldwide . and have a strong caracter . me I life in the poor social neighborhood of the city. I have no character kind , I'm less listened to no power with people in my life.

me listen in the past music of the 60s-90s not really changed since 1997 :laugh3:

So the band is in showbiz because is normal Chris Martin married Gwyneth Paltrow family influence while the band enters in the showbiz. it's called the influence of people family and who have more power Hollywood and less the world of musics.

Coldplay has become the biggest band influence and many people bring lot of new fans. like Gwyneth Paltrow influence many women in the world and has so many fans .

So now if we go back to the band, men still remained simple and humble but the world of showbiz and Hollywood is always the stronger. they live in this world showbiz superficial now.

just an example of concerts there is no circus. there's just Coldplay with the fans. no glitter no people of showbiz, no fack just the poor simple sound .

but I'm pretty sure if Coldplay back in the old style they lost a very large part of most fans and music industry will find them less interesting, and less profitable and less showbiz will love them

Big fonts, each word capitalized or not capitalized...this thread looks fun .

(I'm just teasing :p)

Anywho, seriously, eh, like stated, some people's tastes change and certain styles aren't to their liking. I happen to like every aspect of Coldplay's work, but some like a certain phase more than others, and that's fine. That will happen with any band that sticks around, you're going to have the fanbase divided up into all sorts of camps, the "I liked them before everyone knew who they were" crowd (whom I sorta find annoying-good for you for getting to them first? 'Cause, you know, things that are beyond a fan's control, like their ages or locations in the world, can't possibly factor into when they finally do wind up hearing about a band), the people who like the simple early days, the people who didn't get on board until recently, etc.

My issue tends to come in the reason for some of the complaints-they're "too pop" or "too top 40"-if they hadn't been before and are just now experiencing that phase in their career, that'd be one thing, but to make that complaint about a band who's experienced that pretty much almost their whole career seems a bit odd. Or they want a "part 2" essentially of their favorite album/period. Isn't the fact that that period is so original and unique the reason why you love it? Why would you want a complete replica? Wouldn't that take away what made the original so special? Or the people who hear ONE album they don't like and oh, my god, they're just done with the band now 'cause clearly that means they'll never make anything good again! Stuff like that. It just doesn't make much sense to me, those sorts of arguments (and I feel this way about any artist's fanbase who makes these arguments).

It's a strange dance artists must do. Fans complain when the artist they love isn't popular, and constantly say, "How can people listen to *Insert artist/music that's really big at the time here*? It's crap! They should be listening to stuff like *Insert band you love here*, they have actual talent!" But then, when your favorite artist does get big, then it's "Oh, my god, they're too big now, they're everywhere and all these people are pretending to be fans." So which is it? You want the band to be loved and known or you don't?

What I'm not 100% pleased with is that sometimes I feel Coldplay are heading for 'big' rather than 'great'.

This is exactly what I think.

So I'm not a "fan" cause I'm not too keen on their new material? Mmkay.

What I'm not 100% pleased with is that sometimes I feel Coldplay are heading for 'big' rather than 'great'.

Yeah, that's exactly what they are doing.

That's absolutely true. I mean I love certain phases of their music more than others, but I really love everything they do, cause I feel there's honesty in it.

They're not big and successful because they hire naked women in their video or absolutely want to make money with adverts and so on, they're big and successful because what they do happens to be very admired and loved. I know sometimes it's more fun to be a fan of someone who is not that famous. But Coldplay happens to have that huge success now and as a Coldplay fan that's all you can wish for them. When you love an artist, you want that their work gets recognized and taken as a reference I think.

To the original post: I'm not sure anyone who has disliked the new direction have wished ill on the bands' future prospects. In fact most seem to be relatively happy to give this current material a miss (even if they have a bit of a whine about what they don't like about the album every now and then, but that is necessary). Please to be clarifying where they have wished ill?

You're always going to have people who are less than pleased with what a band is turning out at the time, and that's perfectly fine; in fact, how boring would this forum be if everybody agreed on everything? :P I agree it is a tad silly when people decide this band, that has been a huge part of their life for so long, is suddenly the most unholy abomination on the face of the earth just because the band made an album some fans don't like, but those people are probably the minority. Most fans that don't like MX will probably just get back into it when LP6 rolls around, and that's fine for them. Meanwhile, if you like MX, then enjoy the music. That's what being a fan is all about, right?

:?

i don't get it??

Or is it just me??

Okay, first of all.... why are you using such a big Font?

And why are you writing sentences in your post as if they are song titles? And why do you use quotation marks for the word ‘fan’ ?

Now for the questions ... You don’t get why former “fans” of Coldplay are not “fans” anymore? I am asking, because you didn’t really say the italic things in your post, but I guess that’s what you mean? What do you mean with “fan”? Someone who is an active follower of/fanatic about a band? You ask why people don’t stay loyal to their band when this band changes direction (musically)?

Hm, if I am right in what you mean to ask, then I have a tendency to reply with

Some Coldplay fans stop being Coldplay fans, because their music taste changed.

It doesn’t even matter if this music taste change is Coldplay’s or the fan’s (which also didn’t become clear from your post). You are a fan because you love what they do. If you don’t love anymore what they do, then why would you hold onto it?

I also don’t really get if the second question is related or not, because if you are not a fan anymore of a band because you don’t love anymore what they do, then why would you bother if they are successful and prospering? In that question you already include that the person loves the band, so they are still a fan, right? Then why do you ask this question right after the other one where you are asking why people stop loving a band after a taste change? If they don’t love the band anymore, then this question doesn’t apply to them, right?

In general I don’t get the second question, I think ..... I also don’t understand why you ask ‘Or is it just me???’ implying that we all might think your point of view is crazy? I have no idea if it’s you, because I don’t even get what you are asking.

(psssst, know your alot and they're their and there ;) )

Sorry, for being of no help, hahaha!
