Like I said, an "addiction" could happen, other than that I wouldn't suggest taking it if you have sleep apnea or anything that compromises your respiratory system, no drinking for you and I guess that's it. You're always welcome not to take them if you're not alright with it. I'm personally not very fond of sleeping pills, but in the end it's not my decision and you can always go get a second opinion.

And next time, don't be such a little boy about it.

Ask your doctor?..

I did that's the whole point of the whole thing

But he's an asshole and I think he wants me to die so I stop asking questions about being a doctor.

And I asked my other doctor a while ago and she was like eh whatever here's a tetanus shot

Once my dentist put me on laughing gas for like no reason I'm pretty sure. And then laughed at me.

And once my dermatologist (when I had acne problems in 7th grade) put this cream on my face that made it even zittier. ASSHOLES ALL OF THEM

They put me on sleeping pills. Am I going to die like Heath Ledger?

Seriously it's freaking me out

Is anyone else on these things?

Well technically they put me on them like 2 months ago, but I didn't use them and I went to the doctor today and he said that I'm still stressed. He asked me if I had been taking my pillz and I was like lolno. He said that I need to take them, and I have to go back to him in two weeks, and he'll know if I didn't take them.

A friend of mine has troubles sleeping and is on meds. She lacks melatonin. She is now dependant on the melatonin pills (as soon as she stops she can't sleep) and can't drink alcohol-containing drinks. It was used – I think - so she could get her natural rythm back and quit, but that didn’t happen. Not so weird, finding out later that she has Asperger and people with Asperger often have low melatonin production or none at all. The pills also make her have a very dry mouth. She got it after her melatonin level was measured each hour of the day. I did the same test, because I have sleeping problems as well. My melatonin levels were fine though (very high but only from eight/nine o'clock onwards so that’s good!).

Have you had a sleep study? Or at least a test to see if you don’t produce melatonin or hypocretin or lesser than you should? Why did the doctor subscribe the sleeping pills? Zolpidem tartrate is usually subscribed for insomnia, you have troubles falling asleep at night? Just asking, because I am not a fan of doctors that just subscribe a pill instead of looking at the cause of the problem. It might be that the pill will help you recover from insomnia, but alternatives might just as well. Sticking to going to bed each day the same time, for example, or melatonin (though you have to eat a lot of banana’s after dinner to get that in effective amount naturally). Or, as Destrokk said maybe, there is another problem underlying this all and fixing that would also solve the symptom (which is insomnia). Another friend has insomnia and started using pills, but the pills are not for treating insomnia but for the psychological problems that led to her sleeping problems. It seems to work :)

Anyway, although I am not a fan of pills I guess trying out for a few weeks wouldn’t harm that much and might work well. What else would you do against the sleeping problem?

why you take medications for good reason or not ?

what you need in life to change your status, and get better?

me seropram, Xanax, Demetrine .

but I stop taking medications against depression and sleep deprivation.

Yet I have had need medics chronic depression.

it's just that I realized that even with medics or even any medics all the therapy I see, it's the same thing. nothing changes, simply because I have a bad envirement in my life. my family does not help me. I am alone.

people do not support people who have depression, because they do not know. they think it's just people who made anything in life .

I have no chance in life to change, I even move, to change the environment of places in new city but it's worse depression .

Wow. I do not want to become dependent like that, that's for sure.

The problem is that for the past three years or so I can never get actually-good sleep. Sometimes I don't sleep at all. And when I go 3-4 days without sleeping on a regular basis, it starts to take a toll. So I thought I should go to a doctor.

So I went to the doctor and he didn't do anything himself, but he sent me to a sleep specialist. This was like a year ago. And she gave me this silly book that I had to use to log how much I slept every night, and once I had to go to the hospital overnight so that they could hook up my brain to these weird wire things so they can watch me sleep from the inside. I was like you're creepy but I did it anyway.

And since I have a history of migraines as well she put me on these pills that regulate neurotransmitter output (NO), (ACh) and (dopamine) I believe, but I could be wrong. Anyway, the logic behind that is that if I have other neural issues that the lack of sleep could be because of regulatory neural stuff like that.

And then since that did nothing shes like fuck you here's some nappy pills. And so I just kind of stared at them and never took them because Heath Ledger and Judy Garland.

And then I went to the other doctor for something unrelated (needed a checkup for my new school) and he was like asking if I take my pills and I was like lolno. And then he told me that I have to do it.

And that's how I'm here now asking you guys because naturally you're more qualified than a doctor.

Lory you're great. I truly believe that if you keep kicking, you'll find bliss in a place you least suspected it would be.

you know in life, people need love and sex to be okay.

but as we live in a world where people think only successful, money and materialism.

it's hard to find harmony in life

I need none of these things because I do not exist in real life

Unfortunately my last doctor visit has made me not believe the "you must take your pills" line anymore. I was on anti-depressants, and when I would visit my GP would urge me to keep taking my pills. Sure thang, I thought. I went off them in December after becoming sick and tired of the poor judgement issues they seemed to be causing. I visited her last month. The conversation went roughly like this:

"Are you still taking your pills?"

"I went off my anti-depressants in December"

"Oh that's good. Probably for the better. Pills have too many bad side effects... you might do better off them, I think it's better not to be on them"

:stunned:... then why did you prescribe them to me in the first place and urge me to keep on them... even when I expressed concerns about side effects, hm? Ay ay ay.

Anyway my personal experience with a different type of medication, thought I would add but don't take it as gospel or anything

^ Yeah, if there's anything I've learned in med ethics classes is that most doctors are kind of crooked. They make money from the drug companies based on what they prescribe, and how much of it they prescribe. Which is shitty logic to me. That method should be illegal (and is in many countries). They do this even if it's much more expensive for the consumer: On the basis of whether they actually need the medicine, and there is almost always a cheaper generic version with the same shit in it.

This is why I'm skeptical. Well, that and he seems like a terrible person. If I died under his care in some kind of extreme hypothetical situation I'm pretty sure he'd be more annoyed that he'd have to file malpractice than anything.

And I wouldn't listen to him anyway because fuck the man.

This reminds me of that thing in The Matrix when the dudes with the sunglasses held that guy's mouth shut until he swallowed the pill.

Brent, after reading through all of your comments it seems like your starting point should be to get a different doctor. It sounds like you really dislike the dude; you shouldn't feel so uncomfortable with your PCP (assuming that's what he is). Making you better should be a team effort. It's not like he can stop you from going to a different doctor.

As far as how to find another doctor that would be a good match for you, I'm not sure what would be the best method to go about doing that. Maybe if you know someone in the health care field, ask them who they would feel comfortable with having as their PCP (or for referring their relatives to).
