Hi everyone! :) I wanna talk about song "Politik".

For me, that's the best song ever, even thought there are Coldplay's songs with better lyrics, but... just... Melody, Feelings... Everything is perfect! Ahh! I could listen to this song Forever! what i really like about politik is the part after second verse, that piano solo and everything, that leads me to another dimension, literally. and I don't think it's about 9/11, It just happened to be released around that time..and even if it is, I'm just getting a different massage. anyway, as I see, people don't mention that song quite often when they're talking about their favorite songs and I just wonder why. :confused: I wanna hear opinions!

First of all I would like to say thank you. Watching these vids has made me love this song again. I truly think it is one of their most emotional songs. There is so much energy. Also I have to say Chris is freaking out so much during that Grammys performance it's almost frightening haha.

Politik is one of my favourite songs ever. It's so incredibly beautiful, and that part with the piano solo always strikes me too. It's just...yeah, it's so beautiful. Words can't describe it. The lyrics are great too. When they did MTV Storytellers in 2005, Will said that, more than being about 9/11, it's very personal, it's about right & wrong.

Fans often acknowledge Politik as one amazing song, musically and lyrically speaking.

Politik is definitely in my top 10. I personally prefer the version they played at Glasto 2002 the most. So much power and emotion in that one.

 

Especially the part starting at 5.30 is pure magic and gives me goosebumps every time.

OH, and yea, I forgot about that one, My dad was there and me too, Glastonbury 2002, but I was only seven so I don't really remember, but he said it was unbelievable, from that moment he became a big Coldplay fan, I guess me too :D

Politik is a great song, the energy of it live is amazing, but I don't think it's on my Coldplay top 10, maybe top 15.

I can't believe it was never released as a single. It's so powerful. I love when Chris sings "give me love over this." There's something so inspiring about the whole song. I'm glad they've continued to play it at concerts.

I love Politik. The lyrics, the beat,the music, Chris' voice. Everything. It's damn beautiful, and I wish I could hear it live once. It's definitely one of my favorite songs.

This has always been my favourite one. For me, it's a song about catastrophe of people living without soul, without realizing the problems existing beyond their owns, without acknowledging the true value of life, until some terrible events lead to a sudden end of their lives and they only had a chance of a moment to suddenly understand all this. It is an extremely emotional and symbolic track, but also a little bit underestimated. What would really be great is if there was a video clip for this song, showing all the thoughts they had for it.

Politik is by far Coldplay's best song, and it's actually my favourite song ever. Nothing touches it live - it is epic! The last 2 minutes are absolute perfection!

 

It is so underrated, they seem to always play it at their big shows and very few in the crowd recognise it which really irritates me.

 

I just hope they keep it in the setlist for the MX tour - I'd be gutted if they didn't play it!

They were becoming big after Parachutes, and were working on AROBTTH. Chris can't read music, that makes it more special to me. Politik is something from heaven. After Parachutes, they got into a studio in Liverpool where they were writing songs all day, something magical happened there. Parachutes was a brilliant debut album, and to follow it up with a better album, is really breathtaking for me. That though gives me just a great feeling while listening to these songs. And then Politik, the strong intro. Brilliant, only two chords the first two minutes of the song. After the second chorus/verse, the most magical part of a song ever begins. The melancholy is so so pure, it is like I want to sit down on my knees. And then the outbreak. Jonnys riff, only three notes, but it is so perfect. Politik is so emotional.

 

The thing that annoys me is that most people don't know the song. If you say Coldplay, people only know Clocks, Viva and Paradise. It is a shame. I'm not proud of the last two songs. I want people so badly to listen to the old stuff, what Coldplay really is. Even newspapers were talking about "Politics" after the Pinkpop gig. But that's the way it is. I can talk for hours about this song, I'll stop now haha. The best version for me is the Glasto 2002 performance. At that time, people didn't know the songs yet, and Chris' high "oeehh" part at the end is perfect. Thanks guys.

Politik is a fantastic song, no doubt about it. And that performance at the Grammy's with the orchestra in the back is one of the best things I've ever seen.

 

But for some reason Politik is my least played song on iTunes from A Rush Of Blood To The Head. I think I have to be in the right mood for it. Maybe because when I'm working its not the best song to have in the background as it's one of Coldplay's loudest I think.

 

That being said, whenever I've left a Coldplay concert, Politik has always been in the top 3 songs from the gig. Definitely one of the best live.

I used to be indifferent about Politik but I changed my mind a couple of years ago. And I love the part that starts at approximately 3:00 :wacky:

That Grammys video was one of the very first Coldplay videos I ever saw.

Back in 2003 when I first heard of them, I headed to Limewire and downloaded everything I could possibly find. That performance of Politik was the first one. It made me fall completely in love with them instantly.

And I still think it's one of their best live performances ever!

Chris has said Politik was written 2 days (9/13/2001) after the events of 9/11 and was very much inspired by these events.

 

There's a Grammy survey that counts the Politik performance among the most memorable performances EVER at the Grammies along icons like Michael Jackson, Tina Turner, Elton John, etc. When you consider that Coldplay was (were) a little known indie band at the time, that's a great achievement.

 

For my part, I cannot watch or listen to Politik only 1x. I replay the whole song a few times, then replay it from "give me love over this" to the end a few more times. The only reason I'm hesitant to call it my absolute Coldplay best song is b/c I feel some loyalty toward Fix You. After all, without the latter I still might not have gotten into Coldplay music.

And I totally agree that most of the people only know about Clocks, Viva la Vida.. One day I posted a "Shiver" on my facebook and then my friend told me this: "Have you heard about Clocks, that's my favorite?" and I was like....bitch...REALLY?? because I knew that's the only song she knows. haha it's true, that annoys me too much :laugh3:

Anyway, yea, It's amazing how Politik is actually simple to play and still can be your favorite song because all those feelings and emotions makes this song soooo perfect!

Watching that Grammys performance was the first time I understood why people enjoy live music so much, the way Chris goes crazy made a massive impression at the time.

I think it will always be my overall favourite Coldplay song.

I don't watch Politik on youtube. I have this very nice and clear copy on my computer that I run to every time I want to watch the Grammys performance. I can't remember where I got it but the quality is much better than anything they have on youtube.
