Hey folks! Today I received an email from Coldplaying.com where they say it's been a while I don't visit the site. I just realized that:

- it's been a while I don't read anything about Coldplay (I used to buy magazines from all around the world)

- it's been a while I don't watch anything from Coldplay (I used to see all the videos and I watched the Live DVD about 1000 times)

- it's been a while I don't buy any album from Coldplay (I used to buy all the Albums, EPs, and DVDs, from many different countries, I even have one from Japan)

- it's been a while I don't listen to Coldplay! :(

But if someone asks me "what's is your favorite band?" I answer "Coldplay" right away! So what happenede? Am I still a Coldplay fan?

Only you can answer that.;)

Yes. I listen to so many different styles now that it's hard to choose the one I prefer. But I'm sure I'll listen to Coldplay again. I think it's just the fact that I didn't enjoy very much the latest two albums. The best album in my opinion it's A Rush Of Blood To The Head! Chris used to say it was time to stop. Maybe he was right cause the latest albums wasn't that good. But they might change! I just don't like the fact they put Rihanna in their album. She has nothing to do with them. I think it's just for the money! One band I think It's awesome and I like and admire them more and more is The Black Eyed Peas! I listen to TBEP since 2001! They're better now!

You hate Viva La Vida and Mylo Xyloto but enjoy The Black Eyed Peas music? Interesting!

Try to watch recent live. Maybe you will change your mind about some songs from Mylo Xyloto or Viva La Vida. :bomb:

i'd say, yes, you are on some level. The bands I've outgrown don't spend any time in my brain. I may listen to old albums occasionally, but they don't warrant much more attention than that.

Nickleback(Please no negative comments about them)

I don't get the irrational hatred towards Nickelback.

I find them irritating, but only because Chad Kroeger or whatever is an asshole, and all their songs sound like one big song and I really can't stand his voice.

Oh wait, I think I get it now.

Although I liked that spiderman song they did :uhoh:

I really hate MX, but damn, not even I'd sink to listening to BEP over it.

I'll take Where Is The Love over ETIAW/POC/Para annyday.

Well... I realized that i'm still a FAN of Coldplay, but as many have said "I'm just not so fanatic anymore". I didn't like the two latest album, but it doesn't mean that I don't like Coldplay anymore. I like the old songs and I still hope they can do something better!

For now I'm listening to...:

-Foster The People

-Foals

-Jason Mraz (In fact I listen to Mraz since 2003)

-Lights

And many many others... Thanks for your help!!

I think what made me less like Coldplay is that they became some trend, like the new U2 or Madonna, many people don't even know their story and think they are real fans. I might got tired because Coldplay was playing everywhere have from soup opera to the street corner bar. I kinda miss that thing when I was listening to Coldplay and people asked me "who are they?" "I never heard of!" And I explained a bit about them! It's kind the same feeling when Instagram was available for Android users "it lost its sense of exclusivity"

idk what is it about MX that some people on here hate so much. Is it because its poppy, not poppy enough, lyricism, not creative enough, or other reasons.

Im just curious

Search is your friend, this topic has been hashed out soooo much over the past few months that you'll have no shortage of results

Had a similar phase in 2010. I was getting a bit tired of the old work and some other bands crossed my path. I didn't listen to Coldplay much in that year. But when the rumors around the release of the new album and the release of ETIAW was there I immediately fell back in my old Coldplay addiction (including this board). Give it time. Nowadays I also don't listen as much Coldplay as I did during the release of MX and the december tour. It comes and goes, but you're still a fan!

Ahahaha, this site is kind of a time machine, and old posts from a decade ago resurface now and then!

I understand what you mean, I think that many Coldplay fans went down your path. Personally I became a very passionate fan in early 2014 and in many ways the band has changed my life deeply. I gave up a bit after a year and then went back to Coldplay early in 2021 and started digging through their discography, old interviews, etcetera. After the release of their last album, I became a bit disillusioned again.

Now I might have reached some sort of balance where I have accepted that I don't have to like everything they do, or reject everything they have done in the past because I don't connect with their recent stuff. I still consider Viva la Vida to be my favourite album (and I listen to a lot of music!) but I must admit that I feel a bit embarassed telling people I'm a Coldplay fan because what I like is generally radically different from the idea most people have of the band. (does this make any sense?)

Anyway it's funny that some of my favourite albums from the band, VLV, MX, actually are the firsts to have divided the fanbase and alienated some of the early followers.
