Coldplay, Mumford and Sons, and REM All Featured On New Charity Record

Coldplay, Beyoncé, Eminem, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mumford & Sons, Plan B, and REM are just some of the superstar artists lined-up for an exclusive new charity campaign in partnership with direct-to-fan specialists PledgeMusic.

Launched on July 2nd, ‘Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa’ is the long-awaited follow-up to the 2006 smash ‘Rhythms Del Mundo: Cuba’, its successor ‘Rhythm del Mundo: Classics’ in 2009, and 2011’s ‘Rhythm Del Mundo: Revival’, all of which were released in aid of the charity Artists Project Earth (APE).

Formed in the wake of the Indian Ocean tsunami disaster in 2004, APE was the brainchild of founder Kenny Young and aims to raise awareness and funds for climate change and disaster relief projects.

‘Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa’ features high profile Western and African musicians collaborating on 14 exclusive African mixes of contemporary hits. APE travelled to Mali to record African musicians Toumani Diabaté, Bassekou Kouyate, Ali Farka Touré Band, and Rokia Traoré.

As well as pledging towards the album, fans can purchase a range of exclusive items through the PledgeMusic website - including posters, tote bags, t-shirts and the chance to take part in an African drumming workshop.

Coldplay Video Unveiled By Climate Change Music Charity

To mark the release of their fifth album Artists Project Earth (‘APE’) has unveiled a great new video to accompany Coldplay’s famous track Viva La Vida which has been given an African makeover on the album, Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa also featuring: Eminem, Beyonce, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Mumford & Sons, Fleet Foxes, Rokia Traore and others.

This fantastic animated video was the brainchild of APE founder and Grammy Award winning song writer Kenny Young, who co-wrote the 1964 hit Under The Boardwalk. The animation was done by Chris Debney, who won acclaim for his video instalments in the London 2012 Olympics opening ceremony with Danny Boyle, along with character animator Martin Bell.

The video was produced to raise awareness of Artists Project Earth and its vitally important work, which to date has funded over 300 projects around the world though the sale of its Rhythms Del Mundo series of albums. These projects are focused on climate change mitigation and adaptation, as well as funding for natural disaster relief.

Coldplay have enthusiastically endorsed the video and have given APE the encouragement to release it on all social networks.

A clip of the video which features an alien landing on earth and witnessing disasters such as floods and deforestation can be seen here.

The Coldplay track is one of thirteen new African-style reworkings of contemporary hits, and is released on a new compilation album ‘Rhythms Del Mundo: Africa’ on 8th October.
