Portishead singer Beth Gibbons last released a solo project in 2002, when she collaborated with Talk Talk's Paul Webb (aka Rustin Man) for Out of Season. Now, she's planning a new full-length solo record.

Following a run of collaborations and projects as part of Sepalcure and Jets, producer Travis Stewart is readying new solo material as Machinedrum. He'll release a full-length in the fall called Vapor City through Ninja Tune. In the meanwhile, he's got a new single, "Eyesdontlie", which you can hear above. Each of the songs he's planning will represent different districts in a city (Vapor City) of his imagination, he says.

Jay-Z Announces New LP Magna Carta Holy Grail

During game five of the NBA Finals, Jay-Z aired a commercial announcing that on July 4, he'll release a new album. It's called Magna Carta Holy Grail, and if the commercial's cameos are to be believed, it'll feature collaborations from Pharrell, Timbaland, Swizz Beatz, and Rick Rubin. Check out the commercial below. The album will be released via an app on Samsung Galaxy phones. The app will be available via Google Play on June 24.

Any idea what the other Beth solo thing was like? This is the first time I've ever heard of it. Anyone know if it's any good?

I haven't heard it, no. I'm kinda curious myself.

Gonna listen now. Her voice seems so synonymous with Portishead that I'm not sure I'll like it in another setting. My prediction is it will sound out of context, and some of the aspects of her singing will come through that I'm less keen on. We shall see.

There's a live cover of Candy Says on that album apparently. Bonus track. Can't be as good as the live cover by Antony Hegarty and Lou Reed, surely.

Sorry to take thread off topic a little but that album was pretty good. Pleasantly surprised. There were a few tracks I didn't like (notably the 'big band' songs).

 

Therefore looking forward to the new release.

I'm intrigued by your comments. Will I go listen to it now? ...Eh. Maybe when I get done listening to all the other stuff I've gotta listen to first. Even without that, my feelings on it without having heard it are like yours were. I know her as Portishead's frontwoman, so I'm not going to be used to hearing her in a different setting.

First two tracks and last tracks were my favourites. It's worth listening to all of it though.

Deltron 3030 Announces Release Dates for New Album, EP

Last June, Deltron 3030 (comprised of space cadets Dan The Automator, Del The Funky Homosapien, and Kid Koala) announced plans for a follow-up to 2000′s self-titled debut, entitled Event II. As Consequence of Sound reports, the LP is due out on September 17.

^ I'll be proper surprised if we actually get that D'Angelo record any time soon. Of course, My Bloody Valentine released a record this year, which shows that stranger things have happened. Still, hasn't he been working on that for quite some time now?

Bill Callahan Announces New LP, Dream River

Bill Callahan has announced the follow-up to his excellent 2011 album Apocalypse. Dream River is out September 17 via Drag City. The album was recorded at Cacophony, Tex., earlier this year. A press release calls it "easily the most sensual and soulful of Callahan's career"; he's also planning an extensive tour this fall.
