Sources Claim That Justin Timberlake is Ready to Announce a New Album, Produced Entirely by Timbaland

Following on from this morning’s Justin Timberlake reports, both Billboard and The Hollywood Reporter claim that Timberlake won’t just be releasing a new single – it will be a full album, produced entirely by Timbaland.

Justin Timberlake Announces New Album, Teams With Jay-Z for "Suit & Tie"

As promised, we've got a new Justin Timberlake song-- his first original solo material since he released FutureSex/LoveSounds in 2006. It's called "Suit & Tie" and, yes, features Jay-Z over a Timbaland beat.

 

In an open letter on his website, Timberlake wrote that he's releasing an album called The 20/20 Experience this year.

The lyrics are full of 'cut, split, tear apart, break, spear, smash' etc. :thinking: I listened to "Violet Cries" today for the first time but they didn't quite get through to me. I'm desperate to discover a new band and hoped that they might be a suitable candidate, especially after having seen a description of 'The xx -like, but darker' in reference to them. Could you give me your favourites, maybe I've overlooked something.

D'Angelo's Long-Awaited New Album to be "Turned in by February"

The Virginia singer’s third full-length, following the classic Brown Sugar and Voodoo (it’s basically r’n'b’s equivalent of that new My Bloody Valentine album), the untitled record features The Roots’ Questlove on drums. In a new interview with Billboard [via Dummy], Quest reveals that “if this record is not turned in by February, then something is extremely wrong. Because we worked to the bone in the entire month of January just to tighten up all the loose ends”.

 

“I would not be far off by saying this is probably my generation’s version of Sly (and the Family Stone’s) There’s a Riot Goin’ On. It’s potent. It’s funky. It’s an extremely hard pill to swallow. He’s one of those artists that have, of course, taken 13 years to follow up a record. It’s going to take you about 10 years to digest this record. Totally brilliant. Just the way this society works with music… being able to judge if something is a classic after the first listen, you can do that after thirty seconds on this. And the fact that we started this record in 2004, and it still sounds like it came out five years from now, it is a testament to the timelessness of it.”

Vampire Weeekend's Contra Follow-up Due This Spring

In a new interview with Q [via Consequence of Sound], the group’s Ezra Koenig describes the as-yet-untitled album as “darker” and “more organic” than their last effort, 2010′s Contra, and claims that it “really does feel like the third chapter in a book” (it’s the group’s third album to date).

Vampire Weekend have announced via their website that their third album will be out in the U.S. on May 7 and May 6 in the UK via XL Recordings. The follow-up to 2010's Contra does not have a title yet.

Daft Punk Set to Release New Material in 2013, Says Nile Rodgers

On Friday, Rodgers uploaded a post onto his personal blog hinting that the collaboration would see the light of day before the year is out.

 

The post sees Rodgers describe his long-held affection for Japan, intimate that he’ll back in the country before the end of the year, and, crucially, claim that “the next time I set foot in Japan, my collaboration with Daft Punk would have started to hit people’s eardrums”. In his words: “2013 Won’t Be Boring!”

Daft Punk Signs with Columbia; New Album Expected This Spring

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Daft Punk have left long-time label EMI for Sony subsidiary Columbia Records, citing an unnamed source (“It’s a done deal.”).

 

In addition, Le Parisien reports that the duo’s fourth album is due out in Spring 2013. This is in line with what collaborator Nile Rodgers has said previously. In addition to the Chic founder, the duo has reportedly worked with Paul Williams and Giorgio Moroder on the album.
