I don't think this has been mentioned.

Coldplay, Enter Shikari, Embrace Sign Up for Tinnitus Charity Album

Xfm's Eddy Temple Morris is putting together a compilation album of artists who suffer from tinnitus.

It's part of the Remix presenter's campaign to raise awareness about the hearing problem in his role as a British Tinnitus Association Ambassador.

The likes of Coldplay, Enter Shikari and Embrace are all giving tracks to the I Am The One in Ten album.

The title reflects the number of people who suffer from the problem - a constant ringing in the ears - in the UK: ten percent.

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin last year admitted he is a tinnitus sufferer.

"I'm so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing, with Coldplay on board, at last we have a real chance to get through to Government now - this record could be a game changer," Eddy explained.

"One in one point two million people per year badly burn themselves on a firework, and the Government have spent millions on public information advertising, yet one in ten people has Tinnitus, and the government have never spent a single penny on awareness," he added.

Eddy is now trying to find a major record label to release it but someone at the label also has to be a tinnitus sufferer.

"We need to get through to the government that it's not just musicians and soldiers that get Tinnitus, its every layer of society, and I want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has Tinnitus," Eddy continued, explaining that his aim is to try and open the Government's eyes on the issue and get more funding for support and awareness campaigns.

Songs pledged so far include exclusive remixes of Coldplay and Embrace, rare/exclusive tracks from

Adam F, Alex Metric, The Cooper Temple Clause and Losers.

Enter Shikari and X-press 2 are among the others who have pledged further support including possible tracks.

Coldplay donates track to tinnitus charity album

Coldplay's Chris Martin has had tinnitus for 10 years

British chart-toppers Coldplay have agreed to contribute a remix of one of their tracks to a charity album aimed at raising awareness of tinnitus.

DJ Eddy Temple-Morris, who dreamt up the project, said he planned to put together an album "where every single person involved has tinnitus".

Coldplay singer Chris Martin suffers from the condition - a constant buzzing in the ear, often caused by loud music.

Other bands involved in the project include Black Eyed Peas and Embrace.

The common condition, where sounds are heard in one or both ears when there is no external source, is caused by a misinterpretation by the brain of signals from the nerves in the ear.

The project, entitled I Am The One in Ten, is the brainchild of Temple-Morris, producer and ambassador of the British Tinnitus Association (BTA).

Game-changer

"We need to get through to the government that it's not just musicians and soldiers that get tinnitus, it's every layer of society," he said.

"We want to reflect this by putting together a compilation album where every single person involved has tinnitus."

Temple-Morris said he was "so happy that Chris Martin has given this his blessing" and that the album, if produced, "could be a game-changer".

The record, he continued, would include an exclusive remix of Coldplay's Charlie Brown, the third single from the band's 2011 release Mylo Xyloto.

"It's never been out and this will be the only place you can get it," Temple-Morris told the BBC.

"It's an amazing mix that I was hammering all over Europe last summer."

Hidden Hearing Respond to Musicians Collaborating for Tinnitus Awareness

“It is great to see such big music names come together to raise awareness of Tinnitus. It is a condition that many musicians suffer from due to the nature of their job and playing loud music concerts on a regular basis. We hope this raises money for Tinnitus research and awareness and we see further developments in treating the condition.”

This is kind of hilarious.

i agree but moreso because people are still expecting something other than remixes when "new song" is mentioned

I for one am delighted and grateful, remix or not. It's no fun, having had it for around a month now. I know lots of people who have it, but never thought it was that bad...wrong! Thanks, Chris. :D

I have it a bit at 17, got worse after seeing cold play! Irony?!

^ Nah, not really, for it's people's own responsibility to wear earplugs or not during concerts. I can imagine people simply don't wear them because they don't know the loud music can cause tinitus. Actions like this can lead to awareness so that people know to wear earplugs next time if they want to prevent hearing loss.

Sidenote: "and we see further developments in treating the condition” I rather have them focussing on preventing the condition than treating it. uuuugh

To be fair, no everyone has a choice. A lot of musicians aren't able to perform while wearing earplugs, and while soldiers train with proper ear protection, it's not always available to them in the feild. But I do agree that more focus should be on prevention. There really isn't much 'cure' at the moment that I know of.

I'm 42, have gone to hundreds of concerts and only now started suffering. If the Front-of-house soundman knows what he's doing (And Dan does, you shouldn't be dealing with hearing loss from a Coldplay show or two, so there may be other factors worth looking into.
