Modest Mouse Announce Strangers to Ourselves, Ready "Lampshades on Fire"

It's been a while since this has happened: Modest Mouse have announced a new album—their first since 2009's No One's First and You're Next. It's called Strangers to Ourselves, and it's out March 3, the Modest Mouse fan site Interstate-8 reports.

The news was reported via a fan's Twitter account, who received a test pressing of the recently teased single "Lampshades on Fire". It came accompanied with a note saying that the song would be released on Tuesday (December 16) and revealed the album's title and release date.

PJ Harvey Is Recording Her New Album in Public, and You Can Watch

PJ Harvey will record her ninth album live as part of an art installation at London's Somerset House. The exhibition, which is called Recording in Progress, runs from January 16 to February 14 and will give attendees a chance to watch Harvey create the album through one-way glass. Harvey will work inside of a custom studio alongside producers Flood, who worked with Harvey on 2011's Let England Shake, and John Parish.

An album what I would think is really worth mentioning:

4. solo album by Steven Wilson, called "Hand. Cannot. Erase."

It's not really mainstream music as the previous ones in here, but everyone who is interested in good and quality rock albums with a strong concept, I would say this is the one of the highlights of 2015. ;)

We previously reported that she'd hit the studio with Arca, and now another collaborator has been announced: British producer and Tri Angle artist Bobby Krlic, otherwise known as the Haxan Cloak. The producer took to Twitter this morning to announce the partnership, calling it "an honour".

Biffy Clyro (will either be late this year or early 2016)

Others:

Stereophonics

Snow Patrol

Possible for:

Radiohead (possibly a long shot, but there's certainly longer shots)

Tame Impala (pretty sure)

Bjork (if what was posted above is correct)

Aphex Twin (more of a long shot than Radiohead but he has said he has plenty of other stuff and wants to get back into releasing his back catalogue and that Syro will not be his last output)

I'm finding so much new stuff it's almost irrelevant if this lot release anything though, which is cool as they all make up part of the core of my favourite stuff. Nice not to be so bound to them.

Same here. I'm lucky in that most of my favourite bands/artists are releasing new albums this year, but even if they weren't I'd still be perfectly happy to keep finding new stuff.

It's a sign that you're into good stuff, to some extent. My favourite bands/artists from my teens are almost all still going, and most releasing things generally considered to be as good as their earlier work. Unfortunately that's not the case for all of the bands, The Libertines flickered out and didn't hold up as well as I thought they would and The Strokes and Kings of Leon lost it long ago. But the likes of Radiohead, Massive Attack, Portishead, Boards of Canada, Aphex Twin, Beck, Bjork, Flaming Lips, Damon Albarn carrying on with Gorillaz, a lot have really carried it on strong.

Sufjan Stevens Announces New Album Carrie & Lowell

In the nearly five years since Sufjan Stevens released The Age of Adz, he's worked with the ballet, scored a rodeo documentary, released more Christmas music, and released an album and EP with his side project Sisyphus. This year, he's releasing a new full-length. Carrie & Lowell is out March 30 in Europe and March 31 in North America via Asthmatic Kitty. According to a press release, the album was named for Stevens' mother and stepfather, and its 11 songs are about "life and death, love and loss, and the artist's struggle to make sense of the beauty and ugliness of love." It's also billed as a return to Stevens' "folk roots," according to the press release.

Pearson Sound Details Debut Album on Hessle Audio

Pearson Sound has dribbled out a few more details about his self-titled debut, due out in March, explaining that he’s been harnessing feedback loops between his machines to create the nine tracks on the album. “I had a signal chain set up that I was really happy with, and I started sending my machines through the same processes,” says David Kennedy. “A lot of it was made by feeding the the same sounds between two different pieces of equipment and they’d end up feeding back between each other and snowballing. On some tracks it’s about harnessing that and taking it to the brink before it disintegrates, and some of them are about just letting it go full-blown out of control.” The label describes the record as “characteristically minimalist in approach” and says Kennedy’s “exploratory studio process” resulted in ”striking contrasts: bold, stark and visceral, yet also subtle, harmonically complex and deceptively playful.”

The Aphex Twin EP came today. Definite comparisons to the darker sides of Drukqs. Very similar in percussion. It's missing some single style songs but then it's only an EP. Great to have him back releasing things. Think this one will be a grower. Happy with first listen.

Have this ordered on vinyl. Heard it yesterday. Once again a return to form. String based like Vespertine and Homogenic but minus the single style songs. Another grower and some real beauty in there. Again always great to hear new Bjork. and glad she's out the Volta phase.
