ELIMINATION #4: VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS
I love Viva La Vida, but I can also understand why people who like the more intimate songs more dislike it. It is one of my favourites but it is indeed pompous as hell! Although at that time, this pomposity still worked for Coldplay.

Amazing Day
I juts thought of something. Coldplay = CP = Colour-Pop :D

Amazing Day
No, Parachutes titles were actually also somewhat plain.

I am worried about the fact that this day may come. Already now many younger listeners seems to only know stuff MX-onwards, meaning that when I say I like Coldplay it is being set equal to I love colour-pop, ASFOS, ETIAW stuff. Then I have to say, well no, actually I only like their earlier work. And since it's somewhat awkward to add that every time, I may well start not say anything at all. I've sometimes found myself wondering whether not the original 3(-4) albums and sounds were a joke from them and what they are currently doing is only showing their real face and interests. I haven't yet found a complete explanation for the significant change in quality after VLVODAAHF.

Amazing Day
By the way, don't get me started about the title. Boring, cheesy, cliche, no mystery at all. 2002 A Rush Of Blood To The Head, God Put A Smile Upon Your Face,... 2005 White Shadows, Twisted Logic,... 2008 Death and all his friends, Life In Technicolor, A Spell A Rebel Yell... ... ... ...2015 AMAZING DAY

So what do Oldplayers think of Amazing Day and Coldplay at the Global Citizen Festival ? Great band or greatly bland ?

Amazing Day
Hm, I for one wouldn't. I'd rather have a band keeping the sound I love (in my case especially the AROBTTH/X&Y sound) and creating variants of it over time than to radically change it. And yes, there's something about the production of Miracles and Amazing Day I don't like. I bet Amazing Day was done by Stargate, too. It sounds so...prefectly pop clean, I don't know how to really describe it. Too clean, too flawless.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
Yeah. i can literally see the cheese melt when this song plays. The melody itself is not bad, but the execution of it is. Plus, yeah, lets all praise God and his beautiful "design". Amen. Coldplay is beginning to become too religious for my liking.

LP7- "A Head Full Of Dreams"
I did ! They should have played it instead of ETIAW but I guess it was ditched because of the piano malfunction.

Who else has never seen Coldplay live before ?
I'd love to see them live once but I'm not sure there will be a point in going to an AHFOD tour concert only to hear nearly exclusively AHFOD songs and A Sky Full Of Stars. Wish I could turn time back and go to a Twisted Logic Tour Concert...

Let's Write a Story!
One of the fans of older Growler music set up a thread on Growling.com and called it the "Oldgrowling" thread: http://www.coldplaying.com/forum/threads/104785-The-ultimate-Oldplaying-Thread-S-BS-TBR-P-AROBTTH-X-amp-Y-VLV

ELIMINATION #4: VIVA LA VIDA OR DEATH AND ALL HIS FRIENDS
Death will never conquer is really boring...I vote for it. Postcards are boring as well but I feel very indifferent towards them, while I actually actively avoid Death Will Never Conquer.

Let's sing a song!
if you love me, won't you let me knoow ?

ELIMINATION #3: X&Y
I am OK with Square One winning. This Era had so many amazing songs that clearly, a lot of good stuff had to go. I am not even sure what my personal top song of that time would be, there is just too many. I was very disappointed at the early death of What If though. For me, What If is among the top 5 songs !

***Coldplay SINGLES Elimination Game*** - let's single out the best single
The most diverse voting up to this point: Moses 4 Magic 3 Bros and Sis 2 Up with the birds 2 Paradise 2 What If 2 ETIAW 1 CB 1 Midnight 1 Shiver 1 VLV 1 SOS 1 Moses apparetly doesn't really "wanna see this thing that's happening to me", since happening to him is only an elimination! And so is Magic, cause we don't no we don't no we don't no we don't...eliminate anything else but you. OK, next round, go ! The songs: Brothers and Sisters Shiver Yellow Trouble Don't Panic In My Place The Scientist Clocks God Put A Smile Upon Your Face Speed of Sound Fix You Talk The Hardest Part What If White Shadows Violet Hill Viva La Vida Lovers in Japan Lost! Life in Technicolor ii Strawberry Swing Christmas Lights Every Teardrop is a Waterfall Paradise Charlie Brown Up with the Birds Hurts Like Heaven Midnight I vote for Christmas Lights and ETIAW.

Amazing Day
I don't have an issue with the melody itself (and the AAAAHs are actually nice), but I have an issue with the lyrics and again with the production. There was a time when Coldplay could write songs full of hope and not sound like a cheesy Christian soft rock band. Clearly, these times have passed. This song is the companion piece to Miracles. The next song will be called God Is Love and the one after that Praise Thee O Lord.
-
Amazing Day
On the contrary, you can hear Davide's strings and it has the same soft cheesy feel-good atmosphere like Miracles...it is probably what AHFOD will sound like at least in parts.

Amazing Day
Exactly my thinking. As an atheist, it is with a wary eye that I perceive this new-found spirituality of Chris (first the God Is Love Tattoo, and then this song). I know there were references to his earlier ambiguity about God and belief in Cemeteries of London (I see God come in my garden but I don't know what he said, for my heart it was not open) and Speed of Sound ("some things you have to believe" "some are made and some are sent"). Like GPASUYF, they did not really bother me, because there was at least some ambiguity about it. The Mylo Xyloto Era had an even more strongly religious tone ("UFO - "Lord I don't know which way I am going" and Atlas - "Show me the way, Lord...") But Amazing Day is actually a positively religious song, which makes me a bit uncomfortable. It's not just the line "Thanks God...", it is also "Life has a beautiful crazy design". Life has not been designed. It is not a design. Creationism, anyone ?
