It used to be a lot easier to defend Coldplay. Nowadays you're really fighting an uphill battle.

You're bound to get that with such a radical shift in sound. It's getting to the stage now where the "experimental" pop phase is no longer a phase. It's going to make up a large majority of their discography. To me Coldplay are the first 3 albums, that's what I was raised on. That is what Coldplay is to me, so when someone tries to tell me that Mylo Xyloto defines Coldplay, or ASFOS is their best song, there's bound to be a conflict there.

But then again, who are you to try and define what our thread is suppose to be? From the start it was always about celebrating the genius of Oldplay and lamenting *WHAT WE CONSIDER* Coldplay's demise. As stated before, I don't see many Oldplayer's openly mocking Newplayer's opinions like in the post above whereas vice-versa it's a different story. The open/mixed threads don't have to be a bastion of positivity either, as fans are our opinion matters too? I'm sorry your offended by seeing a different opinion to your own.

I'm sorry but for anyone who really thinks MX is better than X&Y I suggest you listen to both albums again and re-evaluate. Or... if you really like MX how about you post in the MX thread and scream about how you love it so much in there? You're perfectly entitled to do that in the MX thread, just like I can express my love for the older work in here. You won't see me posting in the MX thread so how about you don't visit here?

Everything's too 'polished' now. They're definitely trying to cultivate a certain image for themselves. Unfortunately for us, that's the "happy" band, maybe they're doing it for their kids, I don't know. The whole hippy, wishy-washy love life thing Chris has going on at the moment is very superficial, shallow and very much shaped by his perfect Hollywood life. I don't begrudge him at all, the lad deserves everything he's got, but for most ordinary people they aren't going to be able to relate to that (Give me back my bedwetter music!) All I do know is that this is just a passing phase and they'll ultimately live to regret it I think. Even in terms of production the music has just lost its character, it's so squeaky clean and perfect. On Parachutes and AROBTTH you could hear the snare drums snap, guitar strings vibrating and the desperation in Chris's voice. The older albums are genuine while the newer albums imo come across more as a product to be sold.

We still have AROBTTH.

Obvious product placement is obvious. From the band who refused multi-million offers to have their music featured in corporate advertising to this. Just goes to show how much not only the music, but the principles have changed. #OldplayForLife

Yes. To you and I it's differentiated a bit but to the vast majority of people, they wouldn't be able to tell the difference. Not that that's necessarily a bad thing, but let's call a spade a spade.
