  1. And we'll blame it all upon a rush of blood to the head...
  2. But you do like the music, you like Parachutes, AROBTTH so by default you would still be a Coldplay fan. Presumably, you would still go to see CP on the AHFOD tour to hear the old stuff? That in itself is still supporting them.
  3. I sometimes wonder what the band would think if they had to trudge through this thread :P
  4. You might not always agree on the path or direction they decide to take, but you support them regardless. It's quite a good analogy actually.
  5. I respect all opinions on the matter too. I can say I will never stop supporting the band no matter what and I never said I wouldn't support them. Coldplay means a lot to me (and all of you obviously) and that's where the frustration comes from I think. Even if AHFOD doesn't sound exactly like I would hope, I will still buy it and still enjoy it just like I did MX and GS.
  6. Absolutely, no animosity or anything. Just a stimulating discussion. We are all Coldplayers anyway, we have more similarities than differences.
  7. No, it doesn't make them bad songs just not as good, not of the same caliber, that's why I would say that is why there has been a "deterioration of quality" It's the very definition of it. Contrast say this: [video=youtube;a9spgas3mrY] And this: [video=youtube;bIHDRVXPOFk]https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIHDRVXPOFk To me, that's not the same band, rather a hollow shell of a once legendary band (Although still decent, I'm not saying its terrible. Just not the same.)
  8. It comes from Politik vs ASFOS, Clocks vs Magic, Trouble vs POC etc etc.
  9. This is actually a great point and it works the other way too. If they were to go back to their indie rock inclinations, It would still sell because it's still Coldplay. I also sometimes wonder if some of the blame also lies on Parlophone's door, who may put pressure on the band to sell as much as possible and this in turn has led to a more poppy sound.
  10. Couldn't agree more. It seems Chris has wrongly conflated chart success and popularity with quality. When in reality, the two are rarely correlated. It can't be argued the Coldplay of 2003 are not the Coldplay of 2015, Other bands go through certain "phases" or experiment, but they never stray too far from their core sound. The change with Coldplay has been, for the most part, fairly drastic. Not to say the new material is a complete departure from previous era's (Ghost Story, Oceans) but to say that Coldplay are on a natural curve and we shouldn't criticize their pop endeavors is for me, absolutely ludicrous. Music is subjective at the end of the day but to me the music of the first three eras are sonically superior, have better lyricism, are down to earth and genuinely emotional and powerful music. It's very easy for a gifted musician like Chris to create a paint by numbers, follow the formula chart topper (ASFOS) but in years to come people will remember Parachutes and AROBTTH, not Ghost Stories.
  11. ^^ In fairness, Parlophones stock values may go up if Jonny featured topless in a music video :laugh3::laugh3::laugh3:
  12. Oxfam actually did something similar with an acoustic version of In My Place: [video=youtube;ogItgrO9GSg] Doesn't have to be attached to anything Coldplay official at all, just a fan tribute.
  13. I love Chris and all, but I could care less if he was an absolute monster once he writes great music. Liam Gallagher is a bit of a knob and people still listen to Oasis, and he has said far worse things about other artists than Chris ever did, denigrating other artists to promote your "brand" is commonplace in music. (Just look at the things LG said about Coldplay) We take for granted that Chris is a great person, but if he wasn't I don't think it would stop me listening to his music.
  14. The Scientist would be good :)
  15. I was wondering if anyone here would have an interest in making a Coldplaying fan lip-sync video? Like the one Oasis fans did here: [video=youtube;KJ_Po54ucsU] If there is sufficient interest, we could decide on a song. I was thinking a fairly popular non-single like Warning Sign or similar and post it on the Coldplaying Youtube channel. Someone would have to compile the clips and sync with the music because I have absolutely no editing skills :P If you honestly think this is a stupid idea tell me. It's only a thought/suggestion *This isn't my in-genius plan to see what you all look like.
  16. I'd say a left over from the MX era.
  17. Over 80 million according to Wikipedia but I'd say the actual number is probably closer to 60 million. For a bit of context, Oasis have sold 77 million and their heyday was a time when people actually bought albums.
  18. Well, you could bang out some piano tutorials to keep us all busy while we wait (Ahem... Violet Hill... Ahem) (I'm entirely joking :laugh3:) It is fun speculating. The day something official happens the forums will explode lol
  19. It is a great song. Neglected by the band. But yeah the others just edge it.
  20. Unreleased video definitely. It's actually sort of reminiscent of the VLV apple ad don't you think? (Still not enough to save the song, unfortunately :P) I think there is also an unreleased Paradise video we never got to see.
  21. Imagine the headlines that would be in the papers the next day...
  22. Surely the whole song was recorded for the Apple ad? Maybe it exists somewhere. Far better than what we eventually got. Perhaps they thought it didn't address the historical side of the lyrics and was too similar to the X&Y style?
  23. Yes absolutely. Although I think the first album was better. Ballad of the Mighty I is solid (I really enjoyed it live) Anyway that's a discussion for another day and thread entirely.
  24. For anyone who doesn't get the "Chris Martin did 10 takes" reference. [video=youtube;bzQYtpjMjSo]
