  1. Categorization of music is irrelevant. Coldplay are whatever you want them to be. Being "indie" is almost the equivalent in rock circles of being "gangsta" in the hip hop community. You've got to prove how many bullet holes you've got in your Rolls before anybody takes you seriously. It's pitiful.
  2. Coldplay are the opposite of depressing to me. I have never heard such uplifting music in my life...
  3. These "perv alert" avatars are the funniest thing I've seen in weeks. You can almost hear the nuclear sirens going while it flashes red.
  4. I had a sneaking suspicion this B-side would restore my faith in Coldplay... Of course we don't even have a real tune yet or even a chorus, but the general atmosphere of the song and Chris's vocals are much more to my liking than Violet Hill. I can definitely hear shades of Eno's "Just Another Day" in this song. For anyone who hasn't heard it, I highly recommend you give it a listen (I've put it on my web space temporarily): Right click, "save target as" http://saffire.kundor.org/09%20Just%20Another%20Day.mp3
  5. Hardest Part Violet Hill (flame away, but I still think the rest of the album will be just fine) What If Twisted Logic Such a Rush ___________________________ I like Coldplay for their soft stuff in general, but I know a lot of people are more interested in loud dramatic stuff.
  6. ~ My procrastination habit. ~ Having to eat unhealthy, bad food simply because it's the only option at the moment. ~ Cold weather (bring on the global warming!) ~ Not having money. (while piling on student debt) ~ People who drink to excess or use drugs around me. ~ Accidentally spilling gasoline. ~ The way I look when my hair is short. ~ The way I feel when my hair is long.
  7. If I wanted to hear Arcade Fire, I'd buy an Arcade Fire record. No fanks, Coldplay.
  8. I love shoegazer music. Give me an M83/Coldplay hybrid and I'll have a huge smile on my face.
  9. Complicate the song. It's just too dang simple for me to enjoy. I'd allow Jonny more freedom to mess around with layered guitar effects and I'd have him rewrite the solo part. As it stands now it's just not very moving.
  10. Beautiful.
  11. I agree with this whole sentiment. BTW, awesome songs on your myspace, bro. You sound like a more honest version of John Mayer or Jack Johnson. I'd spend money on it.
  12. Or else Guy will make you wear this silly hat: I dunno who the girl is here but Guy looks good in this shot.
  13. OMG AWESOME FIND!!! http://www.google.com/help/ig/art/artists/coldplay2.html
  14. Hey there, you're really cute! Welcome to the board. I'm Jay. :)
  15. This just in: The only way Coldplay might not be compared with Oasis, Radiohead, etc is to ditch guitars and drums for xylophones. And even then it's iffy. :P
  16. Very true, I was about to make fun of you for comparing the songs but now I can see it. That piano version is absolutely beautiful. Anyone who is hesitant about this song should listen to the piano version - it might change your mind.
  17. Loudness makes sense in context. I think too much loudness might not be such a good thing, as I think Coldplay are at their best when they are soft and subtle. I want to hear Jonny improvising more guitar transitions (like in Parachutes) and Chris use his low voice more. I'm sure Eno figured out a great combo of noises for some of the other songs though. Strokes albums are always very loud and abrasive, so I can't listen to them all the way through. I have to shuffle in some soft stuff to keep from having to take an advil (as another member mentioned in another thread, lol).
  18. I know it's been said a dozen times before by other people, but the more I've heard Violet Hill (and in context to other music I'm listening to, like Elbow and Cut Copy and Doves), the more I'm enjoying it. It's best when you don't think too hard about the structure and just enjoy the texture of the sound.
  19. If Pitchfork reviewed movies I can only imagine the effusive praise they'd have given Juno.
  20. Apple Martin posted a review of that one on her blog, and she hated it. She said he was too whiney or something, I'd have to look it up again.
  21. I thought you guys would get a kick out of this: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/16251-parachutes Their reviews of Rush of Blood and X&Y are equally cruel, check them out: http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/16250-a-rush-of-blood-to-the-head http://www.pitchforkmedia.com/article/record_review/16253-xy Everyone please remember these funny reviews when you first read about/hear Viva. God will put a smile upon your face! ;)
